This article discusses many Republicans who first disliked Trump, but now are happy with his new policies and how he is running things so far. The article talks about how they hate how Trump's behavior is and attitude, but voted for him anyway because he was the better of the two evils. A lady in the article explained that she cried in the voting booth because of the candidates we were stuck with. Now, these people are still against Trump's behavior on twitter and how he talks in general, but are pleased with his plans and policies that he is already putting into place. The majority of people in the article claim that they need a stronger president and that our last president was about hope, but didn't make change.
I agree, No one is very fond of Trump's attitude obviously, but he does have decent plans and policies. It is too early to tell, but even though his presidential approval rating is low at this point in time. I predict that we will see these numbers begin to rise as soon as everyone sees his policies go into effect. Only time will tell, but I think people who hated Trump in the beginning are now seeing another side to the spectrum.
I remember when we read the articles in gov about this same topic. I understand where they're coming from because there are a lot of democrats who could say the same thing about Hillary. They don't like her personally and scandals she's been linked to but she's, like you said, the better of two evils, and they agree with her platform more than Trumps. I don't like Hillary or Trump but if I could vote, I'd vote for Hillary because I agree with her and the democrats platform more than I do trumps.
This article is about Trump's opinion on bathrooms being made for transgender people in schools. Trump made it clear that he does not find it a federal issue, and that it should be up to the states to decide whether they want it or not. North Carolina is the only state that has created a law that makes people go into the restroom that fits their born gender. Thirteen states have failed to pass this law, one has vetoed the law, and many states are still pending this law. People are stating that they are sill going to find a way to respect the privacy and safety of transgender students while also respecting the privacy and safety of other students. It is crazy how transgender people have to deal with bullying both in school, and on the floor in state legislatures. I do not think this should be such a big issue, considering that the people against it will not be affected in any way.
I agree, it does not harm anyone for transgenders to go into the bathroom of their choice. And I also agree that it shouldn't be a big issue, but in my opinion transgender people probably already go to the restroom of their choice and nobody ever notices. This was all most likely brought on by one person who disagrees with trans and wanted to cause trouble. I think the law should just be that unisex bathrooms are available in schools and buildings and pretty much any public place so everyone is comfortable.
This article is about Trump trying once again to make an executive order halting citizens to travel here from countries that pose a threat to terrorism. In this order, he will not be writing it with his political aide Stephen Miller like in the last one. He is also communicating with more Republicans to make it happen. People are hoping that this time his deal-making and business skills will show. In the new order, permanent residents and green card holders are exempted. The only worry in passing this is that the constitutional interpretation has already been challenged. I think this is a much better approach because now people who are already here or are on their way can stay and it is fair. I do see how it is unconstitutional though because he is only banning Muslims when there could be terrorism from anywhere coming over from other countries and other religions.
In this article Gehad El-Haddad is talking about how he is a part of the Muslim Brotherhood, which he argues is just an Muslim organization to which he has dedicated his life. But, he is not a terrorist. A lot of times people just assume that if one is Muslim then one is a terrorist we know that this is not true but, being able to blame some one for something even if it is wrong helps us to sleep at night. We do not want to think about the fact that there are domestic terrorists that are not Muslim's. If we thought about this fact everyday we would never trust anybody ever again, we would look our doors and hide from our neighbors. we would become paranoid. Just because there are a few bad seeds does not mean that the entire orchard is rotten. This organization just wants to study Islam but instead Mr. El-Haddad has spent the past 3 years in prison. They wanted democratic rule but got a lot of push back. Like Dr. King they never wanted violence but it still came, a flaw in a revolution. I think that we should work harder to not be so quick to judge.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/23/opinion/president-trump-breaks-a-promise-on-transgender-rights.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 Trump broke with the Republican party by protecting gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender from violence. During trumps first week in office, the Justice Departments effort to defend the Obama adminstration to school districts and how they should keep transgender kids safe. And to allow them to use the bathroom they want to. But actually the supreme court will hear argument disgarding this issue. With the case of Gavin Grimm. A transgender kid who has been fighting to use the boys bahtroom at school. But the Department of Justice has toke a postion that existing federal law already confers that right. A week eariler Education secerty felt uneasy about the guidelines. Which would make students feel vunderbale. After hearing the cases Trump sided with his attorney general. It's weird someone who is a champion of gay and transgender rights would stay clear of people who oppress gay and transgender americans like Mike Pence.
I agree although he choose Mike Pence because no one else wanted to. Trump has made good decisions and bad one's. I'm not saying he is the worst but he isn't the best, I'm happy he is fighting for some right's but I wish he would fight for all. His education secretary is an idiot, and most of Congress is republican so anti-gay rights. Mike Pence is another story though. Trump will probably get a dirty look by the party and life will move on.
Reply to Dorothy I think if it was already decided that this was a right of any people, I don't know why it is being brought back up. In my opinion, We shouldn't punish transgender people for the actions of people who take advantage of them. It is not and will never be trans people's faults that non-trans people go into the opposite gender's bathroom inappropriately. We already know the republican party is very conservative and doesn't, as a whole, support transgender "equality" but i think this is a bit excessive and it is vulgar.
This article and video talks about if colleges should hire professors based more on party affiliation, rather than teaching requirements. College is where students go to expand their knowledge further and get new ideas about a major of their choice. When these professors are hired, their party affiliation may affect the way students learn, or think about things as they are engaged with their major. Professors do not only tech their students, their main job is to conduct research on what they specialize in. More often than not, These professors have written their own text books based on their own research for the class they teach. Therefore, if students are reading the professors book, and learning form the professor, they will take in more of the professors ideas.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/23/opinion/trump-will-lose-the-fight-over-bathrooms-for-transgender-students.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 The department of justice and education withdrew the important guidance which makes school treat transgender boys and girls like others under the Title IX. Which is under the 1972 law that prohibits sex discrimination in education. The government retreated from a position that transgender kids cant be excluded from restrooms that match their gender identity. Over the past years decisions with involving schools, work and etc. Because it's hard to intake someone's gender idenitiy. But insisting if whether transgender kids shoudl be treated fairly. The goverment has sent a message to them that they are less than other students. That would be damagaing to them who are already are victims of violence and harassment. This explains why trans drop out of school or sudical.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/21/opinion/trumps-russia-motives.html In this article David Leonhardt talks about Donald Trump and his ties to the russian government. It's nothing new that Donald Trump has connections to Russia, but now that he is POTUS people are paying more attention. This article talks about how trump's moves and directions for the United states might be motivated by Russia's government. I don't know enough about this to say whether i believe it or not, but i do think it's possible. And if true, we as a people need to do something about it because it could be detrimental to our own democracy.
This article talked about Trump's refusal to reveal his tax returns. Obviously the American people by now figured out that his tax returns are not looking pretty; if they were, he would have released them months ago. Going back to one of the debates between him and Hillary, he said the reason because my tax returns don't look good is because you gave me the opportunity to not pay his fair share. On the other hand, the president of any country including America should be an example for people. He is the face of this country. It is reasonable to believe that politicians are messy and are people the public should not trust, but a president should at least have a clean record. If the president of America doesn't have a clean record, then why should the ordinary people have a clean record.
I feel like a lot of people are finally realizing who Trump really is and understanding who they voted for. I do not stand with any of his policies and I really can't believe that we ended up with him as our president this is so unfortunate. Donald Trump is a very wealthy man and it is quite unfair that he has more a lot more money in tax return than the average American even though we work just as much. Pretty crazy how everything turned out.
The president should lead by example, and Trump is setting a very bad example for his people. He's saying that it's okay to be deceitful and shady, while also insulting others and overall just not being a mature person
I really just wanted to answer the question asked at the title of this article. Personally I say blame the ones who voted for him. We knew what Trump was going to do but obviously some supporters were to oblivious to see what he was really about and it is too late now. Why blame Trump when we already knew what would happen? The people who voted for him are the ones who did not care what would happen and the ones who believed in him in a way. That is just my opinion, people could easily disagree.
I agree. I feel as if people just took this election as a joke. People were voting and supporting Trump just because he isn't afraid to speak his mind, which is completely ignorant. Donald Trump showed his true colors from the start and there was still people who voted for him.

This article is pointing out that not all of Trump's supporters are as bigoted as he is. The author recalls making a tweet about democrats patronizing Trump supporters, and he got a lot of backlash for it. The author starts by saying that he knows Trump is bigoted and uses refugees as a scapegoat, but that doesn't mean that his voters are the same way. He says that the people had no where else to turn and that Trump spoke to their fears.
