In this article Neal K. Katyal is saying that he didn't think that President Trump has done anything right since in office until Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch for supreme court justice. Katyal believes that senate should approve Gorsuch no questions asked. He has worked with Katyal and believes that he is the one for the job and up for whatever that job could throw his way, because he is both a good man and good at what he does.
In this article Masha Gessen and Martina Navratilova are talking about both of these people came here to the US of A to flee a bad government but given recent events they both feel as if they are losing their homes. People with permanent green cards are more secure in the states than those with provisional green cards. They loved coming to America but they now feel like they need to look over there shoulder.
I think if people are on their way over, or are already here, they should stay. No one should have to pay for what is going on their country and you can't just say oh yeah come on over and then be like well I hoped you like it here time to go back. If you have a card or residency or any kind of approval, they should be here. But we also can't keep bringing everyone in, we have to watch out for our country first.
I agree with Lilly. I believe that if someone was already in the country they should be allowed to stay and that they should still be allowed over. I understand looking out for our country but that means every religion and ethnicity not just Muslims. There are people from America causing more trouble than people coming in. I feel like Trump is just being an over dramatic crybaby and he needs to get over it. This is America, we are the mixing bowl, the salad. Trump should've been aware of this before taking office. It irks my nerves.
I think its crazy how so many people come to the US for new opportunities and a better life and government but in reality its not all that much better. You don't come here and automatically become rich or smart, you must work for what you want and its become so hard to stay above recently so nobody is seeing America as it was before. The economy is not the best, we live in a constant state of hate and violence and the government is corrupt. People no longer see this as a place of opportunity but a place of failure.
South Korea & the US are creating a new missile defense system and that is pushing North Korea to "the brink of a nuclear war," which is what North Korea said. Pyongyang- capital of North Korea- & China oppose the system because they feel it is a joint plot between Seoul & DC to attack North Korea. The US Defense Secretary James Mattis says that it is being made because if there is any attack on the US or it's allies, they will need to attack the country who did it, not specifically North Korea. China's reasoning for opposing this is that it undermines the strategic and security interests of regional countries. A statement made by Seung-Kyun Un says that Kim Jong Un feels that North Korea is on the verge of an invasion by the US & South Korea & that he is creating unity & cohesion among his people for this attack. My opinion on this is that I think Kim Jong Un is just psycho and makes this all up in his head.
I personally do not see North Korea as a serious threat to the United States. The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un is obviously extremely unpopular as well as mentally ill. I agree with Rachael that South Korea is not financially ready to go to war. I do not believe that North Korea would be successful at all if they started a war. I do think that South Korea should make their defense system because they are so close to them. I feel like the citizens in Korea need to leave or get help to evacuate the country because of how dangerous it is.
I was looking for a good op-ed to read and write about and they were all about Trump and the banning policy. I then came upon this article and thought I should write about it considering we are currently learning about Filibusters and the parties. In the beginning of the year, I never would have been able to read and understand this article and now I can. I thought it was very interesting reading about how both the House and the Senate have a majority of Republicans right now and Donald Trump being a Republican. I feel like the bills will be easier to pass this way as well and during a conference committee it won't be too hard to get it passes because majority of them have the same view points.
In one way, it's a good thing because it means that Congress can get things done quicker. The bad thing is that since it's Republicans, things like Obamacare and Planned parenthood are going to be undone, and all the progress made with obama is going to destroyed
http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/03/us/cheesecake-factory-pasadena-explosion-trnd/index.html Almost everyone has either gone to the cheese cake factory or at least heard of it but what i'm sure you haven't heard is the recent events that took place in California in a cheese cake factory. In Pasadena, California, a man threw a homemade explosive in the middle of the full restaurant. While no one was injured it caused quite a scare and raises a lot a suspicion and caution. Police are on the look out for a male who is either Mexican or middle eastern and they are trying their best to find this man.
This article discusses a Trump advisor giving false information to defend Trump's new ban. She claimed that former president Obama had a ban on the Iraq refugee program for six months after the Bowling Green massacre. Cnn claims that both the ban on the refugees AND the Bowling Green massacre are non-existent. I feel like giving such false information to the public should have a consequence, and could possibly be considered slander because she is using the information to talk down on president Obama. I do not think that saying these things are helpful towards Trump because there is always somebody that will prove your information false if it is.
In this article, the author is criticizing Betsy DeVos for secretary of education. The author argues that Betsy has no experience, knowledge, or support when it comes to education. The author mentions her saying that she would decline protection for education of disabled persons, and even questioned if that was a law. DeVos supports tax dollars going to private, religious, and for profit institutions. The author is concerned about public education, because it includes all people, unlike private places, which can turn people away.
