n this article Naomi Klein is talking about how the Trump Presidency has been rough for some people but the real blow for was when the labor unions pledged allegiance with the new president. Some union leaders where pleased with the inauguration speech and when the pipeline construction was halted they rejoiced. But, while they like President Trump his plans and budget cuts may just cause them to lose their jobs. Some of these people wonder if their businesses will survive. She is saying that Trump might just stab them in the back.
In this article by the editorial board they are talking about how President Trump fears the courts. When Trump does not get what he wants he becomes a cry baby trying to find someone to blame. When a judge blocked Trump's order Trump mocked him on social media the very next day. This does not speak well for Trump's ability to let things just roll off of his back which might be an important skill for this job. If there is a future terrorist attack on the United States will he blame the courts? Trump will talk about trying to stop attacks but that's all it seems to be...talk. There was an attack where a man with a rifle stormed a mosque and killed 6 Trump has not said a word about it. All of Trump's mocking on social media and even his threats are based in his fear.
I agree that Trump should express his beliefs and opinions in a different way than he is now. Bashing people on social media is not the way a president should behave. Although many people hear what he has to say through twitter, he should be spreading word about positive things rather than only talking about companies that are against him or that he doesn't like. His twitter is full of him talking bad about people or companies because they don't support him. He calls them names, and tries to make them look stupid. I think that he should focus more on current important issues rather than the people that don't support him. Spreading positivity is more effective than bashing others constantly.
I agree. There are many things Trump does that is considered unexeptable for a president to do. Trump needs to realize that he cannot say what comes to his mind. Even though that is why people liked him-not being politically correct, there are many offensive things he says that truly hurt people. He is not a teenager who rants on twitter about other people, spreads rumors, and say how terrible their environment is (for Trump its the country, for students its their schools). He needs to realize that everything he says is recorded by millions of Americans.
I agree with Vylinh. It's not a bad ting to use Twitter and social media to say what he needs to say, but he abuses his power and says what he wants. But he does this because there a no consequences. It's very unprofessional and it takes away from any positive thing he might say or do.
I agree as well. Not only is it brash and ridiculous, but his inability to censor what he says makes him look very unprofessional, and frankly immature. A president should hold himself to a high regard, not sink down to the level of bashing others on social media
Although President Jackson, did the same thing he said many things that mad the other party angry and they tried to boycott his executive orders, now is the president immature yes. Is he unprofessional yes, does he belong in politics no. But he was elected and there is nothing we can do to change it. No amount of rioting will change it.
This article discusses Republican Senators cutting off Elizabeth Warren's speech and voting to silence her. This is the first time in decades that the Senate has silenced one of their own. Warren read a letter written by Scott King in 1986. The letter talked about King objecting to President Reagan's nomination of Jeff Sessions to a federal district court seat. After silenced, Warren protested saying that she didn't know that words from Scott King were not suitable for debate in the United States senate. She also claimed that she was not name calling and was simply reading a letter about Scott King from over 30 years ago. The decision to silence one of their own Senators has caused a lot of tension between members in the Senate.
why would her own people silence her? If she was truly trying to make a point and debate then they shouldn't have cut her off just because they didn't like what she had to say, thats all part of debate. Are there any rules put in place that says she can still speak if what she is saying is valid?
Republican Congressman Steve King says Trump should have repealed the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program on his first day. DACA was enacted by Obama and it protects children who illegally immigrated here from deportation, and it makes them eligible for driver's license and work permit. Trump pledged to repeal this during his campaign but has yet to speak about it since taking office. King also talks about how Paul Ryan hasn't spoke on this yet, and that they probably haven't changed their mind, but they may just be trying to work with everyone on this. In my opinion, Trump said he's going to a lot of things on his first day, and obviously he can't. There have been more important things to deal with. As for repealing the act, I don't think a child should be deported because it isn't their choice to come here illegally and they aren't harming our country in any way.
A married woman of two who came to the united states from Mexico to make a better life for herself and her family was deported. The woman was doing her regular immigration check in and this time she was detained and sent back to Mexico within 24 hours. The reason Trump said was because she committed a crime being coming here illegally and using a fake identification and social security. yes this is a crime but is a crime that her and her family are now separated for trying to make a better life. she understood the crime she committed and tried to make it right. she checked in regularly like she was supposed to and then all of a sudden she was detained and sent back. there should be a better way of doing this, she deserves a real change to make a life here but instead she was sent away without another word.
I don't understand why Trump is doing this. this is unfair and wrong. People come to the United States for a better life not to cause any harm so why should he deport them. Yes they might have came here in illegal means but they are doing to have a better future not to stir up trouble.
When I saw that on the news I was crushed. I understand that coming here illegally is a crime, however these people have no choice sometimes. They come here to make a better life for themselves and their families and it's devastating to know that they don't receive opportunities. Trump himself comes from parents who are immigrants so for him to go and treat and talk about immigrants the way he does just shows how much of a hypocrite he really is.
The fact that a human being cannot come here to live and be happy without the burdens they lived with previously, is absolutely horrible. I believe this is wrong and this woman should have been given a chance to live new. Everyone makes mistakes anyhow. I think it is mind-blowing for the simple fact that we are focusing more on harmless people coming into our country and making a new life for themselves than looking at real crimes happening in America 24/7. These crimes could be kidnapping, sex-trafficking, murders, etc. I think this is just wrong and someone needs to come to a conclusion in which makes sense for all of America.
I think this is a perfect example of how much Trump's policies are hurting day-to-day good people who deserve the right to better themselves in the United States. He may think he is doing the right thing, but he has never been faced with this predicament of starting from nothing and trying to make you and your family's life better by the "American Dream". Who is to say which people have a right to this?
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/10/opinion/when-rules-no-longer-apply.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 The Republicans are oddly excited to let coal companies pollute streams but not telling the public. And letting oil and gas companies bribe foreign officials and letting them win federal contracts even if violating labor laws. Their getting this all done under the Congressional Review Act. Which lets them faster procedures to pass resolutions of disapproval. The stream & bribery measures are on Trumps desk and he's excepted to sign them. The stream protection rule is to prevent mining practices from polluting, destroying drinking sources and forests. Also makes coal companies provide information about contamination so communities can take legal action against them under The Clean Water Act. But they argue the rule would cost jobs. When really it harms people's health.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/10/opinion/bad-dude-no-but-deported-anyway.html?ref=opinion Guadalupe GarcĂa de Rayos was deported to Mexico which she left 21 years ago Now her American born childern are still back in america without their mother. Because, trump who has said to make america great again by deporting criminals and such. But she is not a criminal and nor a threat. So why would he deport her? Well if you ask me he did because, he's a racist. But, what was most alarming about Trump was him on immigration not the wall but his prospect of ramped enforcement to make misery for both sides of the border. During his first week of presidency was to expand the deportation targets of anyone found guilty to any offense no matter how old or minor and just people accused of a crime. It's to watch what he says and his administration do.
An interesting article that proves how federalism works in this country. Many people were frightened at the fact that Trump would be able to do whatever his heart desires. However, the 90 day travel ban from the seven countries was ruled unconstitutional from all three judges. Even though there are things he could do that unfortunately upsets others, ideas such as not letting any immigrants in from seven countries was ruled unconstitutional. I wonder how many more proposals Trump will have that will be ruled unconstitutional.
This article criticizes the use of the Congressional Review Act by the republicans. This act allows congress to pass resolutions of disapproval that nullify presidential regulations issued in the last six months of the previous presidential term. The author predicts that congress would be able to let companies pollute streams without telling the public, let oil and gas companies bride foreign officials, and let any company win federal contracts. Companies argue that having to disclose payments to foreign governments puts it at a competitive disadvantage. They also try to argue that having pollution regulation would cost jobs, but in reality they just don't want to pay the fines
This article states the tips to have a safe conversation with your liberal or conservative friend, girl or boyfriend, family members, ETC. It is sad that our country is becoming so much of a pushover the littlest thing can set people off, but i have many Liberal friends, family and such so maybe these should work and i can actually civilly talk to most of my family.
After reading this article I decided to give my opinion of Betsy DeVos instead of summarizing the article. I am not surprised by the fact that she was elected as Secretary of Education.I was although surprised that there was a 50/50 tie and that Pence had to break this tie. This was the first time in history and I feel lucky for being able to live during this and to say I am aware of the situation. Now for my opinion of Betsy DeVos, I think she is completely unqualified to be the Secretary of Education, and I understand that this is the norm, but it shouldn't be. We need to start making changes. If we consider someone who is completely uneducated on education and believes that a public school is overpaid is qualified to be the Secretary of Ed. then we need to fix something. I want to see changes in the school system, and good change, benefits. It is saddening that in America we allow these type of things honestly.
This article is about how Democratic senator Elizabeth Warren of Mass. was "Silenced" by her fellow republican senators for their perception of her breaking a senate rule. This is not really what she did, and she did not deserve to be punished in this way. The republicans obviously just wanted her to stop speaking because she was going against their ideas, so they found any way to make this happen. In my opinion this is wrong and disrespectful.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/10/politics/bernie-sanders-trump-delusional-liar/index.html I completely agree with Bernie Sanders. Trump is completely unaware of what the constitution says and is such a hypocrite. The way he talks about immigrants knowing very well that his parents are immigrants as well. He has no idea what he's doing and tries to cover that up by offending people. And for him to do that as a president is not right at all. He just seems way too immature to have so much power.
I agree with you. Trump is way too immature to be the president of the United States. He's not educated well enough on political issues as he hardly ever knows what he's talking about. He's a huge hypocrite as his parents and wife are immigrants. You can't be the president of the United States and be a racist, misogynistic judgemental person
This article, written by Peter Bergen is about how Trump's claim that media under-covers terrorism is baloney. Trump claims that there has been multiple accounts of terrorism that the very dishonest press didn't cover for "specific" reasons that the President himself cannot name. The white house released a list that contained 78 major terrorist attacks that has occurred since 2014 that they claim to have not had enough coverage. In reality, these 78 attacks has had over 78 mentions per incident proving that these accounts are noticed and talked about. People are accusing Trump of using this false statements to help send support to his immigrant ban campaign. I think that Trumps ban campaign obviously has a lot to do with these released statements by the President himself considering that the incidents that he claims to have not been covered enough, were indeed covered.
