In this article Mr. Richard W. Painter is expressing his concern for whether or not President-elect Trump's separating himself from his businesses will be enough. There is some concern about why Trump is not releasing his his tax returns. His separating himself isn't as much as people want it to be, he will be turning management over to a trustee of his choosing and 2 of his sons. Painter says that Trump will soon be in violation of the Constitution. Trump will get economic benefits from all his businesses and being trustees to any of them. Trump's plan doesn't solve any of the global problems, like having deals with other countries through his businesses. He also should take his name off of everything, all of his businesses and buildings etc.

In this article Siegfried S. Hecker is talking about North Korea's Nuclear Weapons. President Bush's administration officials accused the North of violating the Clinton pack. Some people do not believe that North Korea has nuclear weapons. He is concerned about how Trump will approach and handle the situation with the North Koreans. This is a very sensitive situation that requires extreme focus a lot of people just do not think that Trump can provide.

In this article Mr. Ron Wyden is talking about President-elects Trump's tax returns. Trump said that the public did not care that he had not released his tax returns when in fact they do. Trump seems to be out of touch with what the people think. The people don't know if they can trust the executive branch if they will not release the tax returns a seemingly minor thing. People are losing faith in our government. People won't be able to tell whether or not Trump is abusing his powers.

    1. I disagree that anyone really cared about the tax returns. I think people just wanted a reason to make Trump look bad because that's all the election was really about. Yes, candidates usually do release them but it never really does anything. Did anyone even look at Hillary's when she released hers? And Trump isn't even in office yet so no one can say whether or not he will abuse his powers.

    2. This just makes Trump look bad. He's holding something as simple as his tax returns away from the public. Clearly he has something to hide. Clearly his tax returns don't look good on him. It is very difficult to trust a person that is hiding something from you and you know that he is. There is just so much heat regarding Trump. I think everyones exhausted of all this.

    3. In my opinion, Trump is only listening to the people who support him and ignoring those who oppose of him. This is why he says nobody cares, because none of his fans really care about his tax returns, while those being ignored do want to see them and have wanted to for a long time now. Denying the problem, ignoring it, and only listening to the ones on his side are reasons for people to lose trust in him as well as increase the number of people that oppose him being our president elect.

    4. Why is Trump not showing his tax returns is not a matter of caring or not caring it is a matter of is he hiding something from the public or not. Because he doesnt wanna show it makes people wonder what does he have to hide. In my opinion he should just show the public, it wouldn't cause him any harm.

In this article Mr. Max Boot is telling us that Russians have an enormous amount of dirt on President-elect Trump. Just because these things are unproven doesn't mean that they are untrue. I don't see how Trump is not more clearly upset by all this alleged dirt. I also cannot understand why the Russians are not bringing this dirt to the light now. Are they saving it for a rainy day?

  5. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/12/politics/us-to-end-wet-foot-dry-foot-policy-for-cubans/index.html

This article discusses Barack Obama's decision to end the "Wet Foot Dry Foot" policy for Cubans in effort to treat Cuban immigrants the same as an immigrant from any other country. The ending of this policy is said to keep the U.S consistent with their laws. The ending policy will have no effect on current Cuban residents, only Cubans who have not yet arrived to the U.S. The number of Cuban migrants entering the U.S has doubled from 2014 to 2015. I believe that this ending policy will decrease the amount of Cubans entering the U.S. I also believe this article is an example of Gateway news.

    1. Thats interesting. Especially because America's border system is all messed up, we are slowly making it less easier to come to this country. Its also interesting that despite the fact that Obama is pretty much done with his term, and is now pretty much waiting for his term to be over, he is still discussing pretty serious matter.

    2. I agree with Matt. I love Barack and think it's cool that even though he's about to go out of office, he's still discussing and trying to take care of serious matter. I think it's fair and makes sense as to why Obama would want to end the "wet foot dry foot" policy, because this wouldn't be allowed by immigrants from any other countries, so what makes Cubans different?

This article talked about the whole conflict between Trump and Russia. Yesterday Trump went off on CNN saying how their news about him and Russia were all fake, but that same night CNN proved that it was not fake. Today Trump and James Clapper, director of the National Intelligence talked to him to defuse tensions about this whole mess. This article is an example of Gatekeeper. Because the tensions are so high between Russia and Trump, all news are covered about it breaking headlines.

This article is about a vegan woman who was denied citizenship in Switzerland because local citizens opposed, claiming that they were annoyed of her "loud opinions about animal rights'. The woman met all the criteria to live in this area, and she has also been living there for 30 years already. In Switzerland, local governments decide citizenship applications, and local citizens have a say. This makes me think about how much different our rights in America are compared to other countries. In the U.S, nobody could ever be denied citizenship over being an annoyance to local citizens. This makes me feel grateful to live in a country with so many rights, and sad for the woman who cannot have a citizenship because of an "over-voiced opinion". I believe this article is watchdog.

    2. This is honestly insane that this woman wasn't granted citizenship because she may come across as annoying when standing up for what she believes in. In America, protesting, and standing up for what you believe to be right is praised, so it is very sad seeing that in other countries, you can hardly do that without being a huge burden to others. I agree that this article is watchdog

  9. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/12/politics/paul-ryan-town-hall/index.html

This article was about Paul Ryan talking about Obamacare and how they want to repeal it and replace it. His arguments are that even though this Obamacare is brilliant for the people who have health problems, the people that don't need it don't want it because of how much it is, and the penalty for not having insurance is much lower than paying for insurance. They don't want to pay so much money for something they don't need. They want to change it so that people who have health problems have affordable insurance and for people that are healthy to have healthcare and not pay a ridiculous amount of money. This is an example of a watchdog. Paul Ryan brought out the problems of Obama and his healthcare saying how its not really successful.

  10. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/11/politics/pena-nieto-donald-trump-mexico-wall/index.html

This article by CNN discusses the president of Mexico's input on Trump's plan to build the wall across the border. He mentioned that he wishes to have a positive relationship with the U.S's government, also mentioning the obvious current conflict between them. He claimed that Mexico is of course not going to pay for the wall. Donald Trump consistently claims with confidence that Mexico will pay for the wall, but I am wondering how it would happen if the country is refusing to do so? The only way I see that you could make a country pay unwillingly is through violence, which I am sure neither government wants. I am not sure what Trump's plan is to influence Mexico into paying for a wall they don't want.

    3. I agree, I find the whole situation confusing. why would Mexico pay for the wall, if it's Trump who wants it! I think it will end in fighting as well between the two countries. Although, Trump does have access to so much money, so just to keep away from the fighting, I think in the end Trump will pay for the wall; if he actually does build one.

      Delete
    4. I think Trump is kind of delusional to say he wants a wall and Mexico will pay for it all, you can't just force that. I think they should just come to some sort of agreement to where both countries pay for it because of the tons of people who have crossed the borders illegally and committed crimes and all of that here, and America is the one proposing this plan so they have to contribute too. It effects both countries so both should pay.

      Delete
    5. I don't understand why Trump wants a way to block Mexico and have them pay for it. Its nonsense, the idea of the wall and having Mexico pay. They wish to have a health relationship with the us so thats rude to just block them out. But if we want to block them we need to that ourselves and not make them pay the price.

  11. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/01/12/cartels-smugglers-exploit-border-wall-fears-ahead-trump-presidency.html

This post on fox news is huge for this countries future, and it makes sense. One of Trump's big standing points for this pas election was trying to reinforce our borders; and everyone knows this. Until Trump begins to focus on this issue while he is in office, the cartels are taking advantage of the time they have left and exploiting our border. They know that once Trump focuses on our borders, it will get extremely difficult for the cartels to enter the U.S. I agree with trying to reinforce our borders, and its been way too long since someone did anything about it. This post was the media exercising the gatekeeper role.

From what I know about the whole situation, Vladimir Putin actually likes Trump. So in this situation would Trump really help to counter the Russian Hack? Also, if Trump and Putin are fond of each other, why would they hack each other. So it brings up the other question, is Putin behind all of this? Or is there another source of people in Russia that is doing the hacking.

  13. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/12/politics/marco-rubio-donald-trump/index.html

This article is about Marco Rubio questioning Trump's pick, Rex Tillerson, for Secretary of State. It says Rubio may try to "get revenge" by stalling or slowing down the nomination process, because he didn't win the election and Trump called him names like "Little Marco." Ways he could slow Tillerson's nomination down is by declining to back him in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee vote. If he does this then he could be effecting his future with the Trump administration. It could also hurt him if he plans to run for President again in the future. The two are clashing over human rights because Tillerson was not clearly answering questions about the issue, and Rubio thinks that this issue is very important in America. Rubio says to be Secretary of State you have to fight for the human rights principles, and Tillerson doesn't do that. In my opinion, Rubio won't effect the process just to get revenge. I think he is right about all of this; even if you're a republican, you have to fight for human rights as the Secretary of State. Trump could have picked someone much better. I think this is an example of watchdog.

  14. http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/12/us/mother-emanuel-bible-study-dylann-roof/

This article is about the church where Dylan Roof killed 9 people as a hate crime against blacks. A bible study took place hours after he was sentenced to death. The members are talking about repentance and forgiveness and how maybe he was possessed from satan. At the hearing, Pastor Eric Manning said to Roof, "If you repent and seek [His] forgiveness, he will surely do that for you." In the study, Manning was asked if they can support the death penalty, and he said as Christians, they can not. He also says that at the trial he found him self siding with people saying "rot in hell," and that is not the Christian thing to do. I think this is so amazing how kind and forgiving these people can be because I don't think I could ever do that. If the church members now are like this, it makes me wonder how great the people were that were killed and that just makes this even more tragic. It's so sad and in my opinion, Roof got what he deserved. I think this an example of watchdog.

This article is talking about how Trump appointed his son in law as a senior White House adviser. The author talks about the pitfalls of assigning family members into official positions, saying that others are afraid to speak up because they don't want to talk bad about their boss's relative. Trump's lawyer argues that it is not illegal because because the law only applies to executive branch agencies, and the White House is technically not an agency. The article mentions how, if anything, family ties would be stronger in the White House, because they can trump the other voices

    1. This is kind of like the revolving door we talked about. Trump puts someone with his beliefs as house advisor and no new ideas are going to be put out there. This is not fair to those who dont like Trump and his beliefs which is quite a few people.

  16. http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2017/01/12/fort-lauderdale-airport-shooting-guns-mentally-ill-editorials-debates/96461964/

This article, published by USA Today is about whether or not people that are considered mentally ill should be able to bare arms. This article starts off by talking about shooter, Esteban Santiago whom went on a rampage at the Fore Lauderdale Airport. Santiago obviously contains a mental illness, and the article claims that it's becoming increasingly harder to be emitted into mental institutions. This, being the reason why Santiago was released from an institution he was emitted to so early, which led to him being able to move forward with the shooting. Before being emitted, Santiago contained a gun that was confiscated from him, but he later received back. "The key to preventing future Fort Lauderdales is to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill, not to return firearms to them on a silver platter." We already need tighter and more secure gun control, especially when people that have mental illnesses are shooting people, such as: Esteban Santiago. Seung Hui Cho, Jared Loughner, and Aaron Alexis. This article correlates to media because when a mass shooting, and civilians being murdered takes place, it gets so much media coverage leading to frightened civilians.

  17. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/jan/12/kates-law-will-give-justice-for-the-slain-innocent/

This article, published by The Washington Times talks about Kate's Laws and tightening immigration laws, when Tomas Martinez-Maldonado, a man who is an illegal immigrant and has been deported 19 times since 2003 raped a 13-year-old girl last year. The article claims that if Democrats in the U.S. Senate had not blocked the attempt of Kate's Laws, then the young girl wouldn't have been raped. I think it's purely unjustified to put the rape blame on democrats when it was all Martinez-Maldonado who raped the girl, not democrats. Also, this article may come across as stereotypical, as they're making it seem as if all immigrants are criminals. Media comes into play with this article because rape culture is a huge deal in the U.S. and is widely covered by the media, and taken very seriously in our country. This, especially being since immigration laws, and rape culture have been flooding the news lately, as these are two widely discussed topics.

It talks about his drone strikes and how he could use them to avoid ground warfare and public scrutiny. The article also criticises Obama's lack on involvement in Syria, causing the situation to spiral out of control. This article is definitely a watchdog

The woman will be charged with kidnapping and many other charges but what matters is the baby or now teenager is safely with his parents.
