Republicans in congress are working to appeal the Affordable Care Act. But after seeing supporters of trump feeling that Washington is disconnected from their concerns. They have been disappointed in Obama-care and Republicans to replace it. So, the Kaiser Foundation has six groups, 3 trump supporters receiving medicaid and three in the Affordable Care Act. They all had an meeting and shared similar opinions. They're not angry about their health care but afraid they won't be able to afford healthcare for them and their families. They trust Trump to do the right thing.
This article is talking about the mess that is healthcare, and how the upcoming debates over Obamacare are going to get messier. The author mentions that even before Obamacare, there were issues involved with American Healthcare. He argues for simplicity, referencing several issues with the current healthcare, like surprise bills and penalties. He argues for the expansion of government healthcare programs because he thinks they tend to be simpler
Healthcare is a huge issue in America today. Many debates were happening regarding healthcare. Now that Trump will become the next president things might change. He was strongly against Obamacare and thought that it was terrible. In Obamas defense it is very difficult to come up with a healthcare system that will please everyone.
Andrew Cuomo, governor of New York, is proposing an idea for free tuition in the state of New York for all families earning up to 125k by 2019. Public education officials are worried that Cuomo's administration are making the costs seem lower than they are as a way to sell the idea. The administration predicts that the program would cost 163 million, which officials believe is way too low to be true. The increased amount of applicants would also mean that there would be a higher demand for teachers and classrooms. This would also contribute to increases in the cost
http://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/06/opinion/erasing-obama.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 Obama is using every second of his presidency to make sure Trump doesn't erase him. I mean what president doesn't want to leave a mark? One freed four million slaves, another created national parks and forests that left every American a rich inheritance of land. A third crushed the Nazis from a wheelchair, while dying. But obama? He had the longest economic expansion and monthly job creation in history. But, already Trump has tired to get some of the credit. Trump has been suspicious of Treason and yet to have held a conference about the election. He had promise to reveal things people don't know. But what could it be?
This article was about Michelle Obama giving her final speech at the white house. She was the First Lady of the United States and she was really grateful for that. Its really interesting to see how opinions change about people. When Obama was first elected, a lot of people had so much hatred toward him and his family, but now the people that hated him suddenly begin to love him, and the media is full of great things that he did for America. Even though he did things that were not great in some peoples views, most people don't think about the bad but instead think about how great of a president he was. Partly the reason for that is because of our next president Donald Trump. People are at the same place as they were 8 years ago when Obama was first elected. Some people love him some don't. All we can do is just hope for the best because we can't really change anything now.
I agree that Obama both Barack and Michelle gained support throughout their time in office and i think that that is because a lot of people didn't really know what they were getting with Obama so they didn't really like him or his wife but as they have both tried so hard to help our country sort of return to it's former glory a little bit people have grown to like them.
I disagree that he has gained more and people like him better now, because if this was the case I don't think Trump would have won. People want change, and they must really not like how America ended with him if they someone like Trump to be president because he is the complete opposite.
24 states have restricted access to restrooms, locker rooms, and other facilities based on biological sex. American Civil Liberty Union filed a lawsuit against Mississippi's religious freedom law amd how it discriminates against gays and transgenders. The law allows school administrators and employers to dictate access to things such as bathrooms and locker rooms. South Carolina has also passed this. This bill has caused huge economic losses for the states, such as businesses cancelling plans to expand the NBA moving the All Star game out of Charlotte to another city. However, Obama issued in May for schools to let transgenders use the bathroom of the gender they identify with. I personally think transgenders will use the bathroom they identify with whether there is a law or not, but I also think places should have a unisex bathroom choice so nobody- transgenders in the wrong bathroom, or people who don't agree with it- will feel uncomfortable.
In this article Mr. Robert Leonard is talking about why people in rural parts of the country voted for Mr. Trump. Leonard says that Democrats and Republicans see things differently because Republicans tend to see the worst in people while Democrats tend to see the best in people. Leonard being a Democrat and from a rural place didn't understand how his best friends that are Republicans could ever vote for Trump. He says that Republicans when someone does a bad thing just look at the person and say that they are a bad person where as Democrats would look at the same situation and try to understand the why, the what pushed that person to their breaking point. It's not so much a red state to blue state but rather a red county to blue county. Rural people feel almost neglected because money that used to be spent on their communities is now often times sent to Urban areas instead.
There isn't necessarily a point to agree with here, but I really enjoy the point being made. I think this makes a lot of sense, especially when it comes down to specific people and if they are Republican or Democratic. Speaking from a personal level, I have a friend who is Republican and judges right from the looks of someone and doesn't care to find out about they why, but I also have a Democratic friend who is the same way. But overall I can see how Democrats and Republicans differ this way. Also the point made about how Rural people feel neglected because money that is now spent on Urban areas makes sense to why they tend to be more Republican now.
I agree with the author of this op-ed. She explains how students who come from low-income families do not consider college or go to community college when some of them have the opportunity of getting accepted into an elite school. They decide to go to community college because it saves them money and elite schools have high tuition, but if they are the more intelligent of students then they could easily save money withe grants and scholarships. I feel like if students were more educated about college and grants we would not have this problem as much. I know that for me it would make choosing a college a lot easier, because I am very uneducated. Students just need someone to give them a better explanation about how much easier it could be for them, in my opinion.
I totally agree with what you are saying. Due to lack of money some students who are really smart and deserve to go to higher colleges end up going to simple community college because they feel that it is saving them money. Honestly there are hundreds and thousands of scholarships out there I'm pretty sure that scholarships could half if not more pay them off. So yes students do need to be educated about all the different ways you can pay for college. If you are smart enough for a really nice college go there don't settle for a lower college our to money problems.
I completely agree with this. It's so sad that there are so many kids that come from low income families that have so much potential, but are so limited education wise because where they come from. Scholarships should definitely be more easily available to poor children. I also agree that kids should have more opportunities to become more educated on information on college/scholarships/grants.
This article written by Gordon Brown, is about how 2016 was the year when mass atrocities against children became the new normal, and how our countries New Year resolution should be to hold Russia accountable for violating human rights. For example, Russia was involved in attacks on Syria, and have yet to be taken accountable for their actions. The article talks about how 2016 was the year where children rights were pushed to new extremities. For example, the Idlib school bombing, that left 35 children dead. If this was another country, they would most likely be held accountable for these atrocities, what makes Russia different?
This article is about tolerance in the age of trump. It is worth the read either for a good case to argue with or an agreement piece. Many things will probably change during trumps presidency hopefully for the better.
I agree with the author of this article. He is talking about how Obama is doing everything in his power to make sure Trump doesn't erase what he has done for us during the last 8 years. The author thinks that Trump will run things even though Obama is using every minute of his last few days in the White House to not let that happen. The republicans want to act as if Obama never happened. Trump will cut taxes on the rich. He may even deport people, more than 740,000 young who were allowed to get temporary work permits and avoid being kicked out the country by Obama. I think Trump will erase some of Obamas work.
