This article is telling the schedule of what will be happening after the election and the results. As of right now, Hillary will be making a speech any moment. She will mostly be speaking to at the people who have helped her the past two years. At 12:15 Obama will making a speech at the White House with Joe Biden. Hillary won 65% of the Latino/a vote, 88% of the black vote. Trump won 54% of the white male vote with college degrees, 72% of white male voters without college degrees, and 62% of white female voters without college degrees. The NRA congratulated Trump for his "hard fought" victory. Clinton supporters are very hurt and shocked and Trump is getting lots of support from Republican politicians.
The election votes on November 8th were being counted all throughout the night. Many people stayed up late to see the results since nobody was able to predict a winner for most of the time. A good amount of states were so close that night, nobody knew the true winner until the votes were 100% counted for that state. Virginia, for example, was won by Hillary by only .3%. Trump won Ohio at around 11 pm with 52% of the votes. Although Trump did win the election, Hillary won the popular vote by about 300,000 votes. Trump ended up getting 279 electoral votes while Hillary was short with 228. Hillary's speech after the election stated that "we owe him an open mind and a chance to lead."
I think it's crazy how the college elected to have Trump be president despite Hillary winning the popular vote, knowing that there would be fines and the people would probably be furious at the college. There's protests going all over right now in fact. Hillary did a mature thing by saying Trump deserves an open mind, if it were Trump that lost, he would've bashed Hillary
I think the electoral college should stop existing. People's vote should count as a full vote. if Hillary won by peoples vote, she should be the next president of the United States. Times have changed. This same situation happened in the 2000 election and it's obviously showing there is a problem with this system.
This article by Mr. Alan Johnson is about how over time our political system has broken down. How older people feel like their parties do not represent them and in truth they don't really. How political parties no longer aim represent the people but to govern them. How peoples anger is getting misinterpreted because we are seeing it as hate when really it is just anger and/or frustration, and this will no change over night, it started happening long before Trump and will continue to happen. Clinton believes that it is because people have stopped caring because they have loss hope because they feel that the government has let them down.
This article explains how many Americans don't show up to vote and reasons why they might not. According to this article, around 117 million people that are eligible to vote didn't go to vote in this election. This is most likely because of the two top candidates being highly disliked throughout the country. A reason why many people didn't vote is because of states being more competitive in others. For example, the article says that the West Coast have mostly voted democratic, which can discourage Republicans to vote because they don't believe their party would win. It also says that "voters tend to be older, whiter, and richer" and that people with lower income and/or mobility issues are at a disadvantage when it comes to voting. I personally do not agree with that considering there is mail in voting.
This article written by Mr. Clemens Wergin is about how even other countries didn't think that we would elect someone such as Donald J. Trump as our president, as the man to run the most powerful country in the world, and they believe it could be the end of the west as we know it. European countries no longer believe that America is a role model example of democracy. If Trump follows through on some of his policies international life/trade as we know it will cease to exist, Trump views international trade with some hostility.
This article by Jessica Bennett talks about how Hillary Clinton was seemingly walked over on this election. All the times where Trump was loud and obnoxious, she held her tongue and didn't say anything back. And after Trump won, she encouraged her supporters to have an open mind and give Trump a chance to lead. I think this is an extremely respectable amount of maturity even if she's a little shady. There's every possibility that it's a facade, but even then, taking the high road and being the bigger person is setting an amazing example. The article mentions how since she was a woman, she had to be twice as qualified and had to play by every rule, because every mistake she made would be scrutinised just because she is a woman. I think had Trump been in her shoes, he would've acted like his usual obnoxious self. I think that by being the bigger person in all these situations, she is setting a great example
I agree. I think both Hillary and Obama are taking this win appropriately, unlike some Hillary supporters. This has been an incredibly annoying, and tiring election. I think people were glad that the presidential election day has come because all this drama would come to an end. Instead, people are rioting, and protesting because of the outcome. Its wonderful to see Hillary and Obama taking this win in, and just having hope, and giving Trump a chance. Both Hillary and Obama have talked so much trash about Trump, and now to see them congradulating him, and telling everyone to just relax and give Trump a chance is great. No one knows what Trump could do for this country (both the bad and the good) but i think people just need to relax, and give Trump a chance. The US set a system called checks and balances, so there is no way Trump can do whatever he wants to do, and do everything he believes is right.
This article By Tom Kludt, talked about the presidential election, and how even though Trump won by the electoral college, Hillary won by popular vote. If Clinton hung on, she would have become the first presidential candidate since Al Gore in 2000 to win the popular vote but lose the election. Many people are concerned about it. Protest having taken place all over the US. People are upset that it is not fair that Hillary lost, even though more physical bodies voted for her. Its also funny how concerned a lot of people are about this fact. In 2000, no one set protests, and riots regarding the fact that Al Gore lost, even though he had more votes. People were obviously upset at the electoral college for that, but now people ( mostly the younger generation and minorities) are protesting because of it. It's a fascinating turn of events for Trump, who four years ago tweeted, "The electoral college is a disaster for a democracy," following Mitt Romney's loss in 2012. Now because of the electoral college system, he won.
This article is touching on the acts of vandalism and racism already effecting our society due to the election of Donald Trump. The article suggests Trump should make a plea to his supporters that this is not right, that his campaign wasn't based on pure hatred and discrimination. Unfortunately, it was. You can't expect to spew hate and racism and not believe your followers will act on it. Even in our own school we have seen the effects of Donald Trump's election to president. It is happening every where. Anyone surprised by these events is naive.
I think that what is going on in our world right now is exactly what Trump would have wanted and we need to come together as a nation and beat this. There is no way we will be better than Trump or his views if all we do is fight and riot and cause more racial issues. This is a time when we need to realize once and for all that our race, sexual orientation and gender does not matter and we need to rise above.
I agree with Bianca that we should come together and fight this, because us falling apart is exactly what is supposed to happen. Doing what we are doing by this violent protesting is not solving anything.
http://www.offthegridnews.com/current-events/you-might-stockpile-some-gas-after-learning-the-age-of-americas-pipelines/ In the south not to long ago, there was a shortage of gasoline due to bad pipes. There is fear that this is going to happen again but even worse. If the line busts we will have no gas or a very limited amount, the prices will shoot up and finding a place to get gas will be almost impossible. So if you knew how old our pipes really are then you might just start stock piling on gasoline to be safe.
I agree that Americans should unite and stay here and fight as one. I understand that people are extremely annoyed and hurt that Trump became president-elect but really what can they do? Nothing because what is done is done. I am extremely hurt that Hillary didn't win, but the only way to fight back is to come together. This is a great article, definitely worth the read.
Firstly, we have the right to peaceful assembly and blocking main highways is a fun way to get arrested.Same as acts of violence a man literally got viciously assaulted for voting for the candidate he believed was right. There is a fine line between not agreeing and being plain on immature. This is rather childish to beat someone up for disagreeing with you, but if they threatened physical harm I don't mind. or even to riot over it. This right here is not peaceful protest this is rioting and stupid. Protesters need to be on the side of the road. Or have fun facing the law.
This article speaks of predictions for Donald Trumps foreign policy. Which no one really knows what it is we can only make educated guesses. South Korea and Japan have expressed concern when it comes to their protective umbrella we have put the for them, but this umbrella has almost withered away because of defense cutting and if we keep cutting it we wont even be able to protect ourselves. Second Putin's congratulations on Donald Trumps win. Lastly the French Prime Minister saying he will want a meeting with President Trump when he gets into office to discus terrorism and such.
