This article is about the wildfires that have been spreading throughout east Tennessee. The fires have spread to Gatlinburg and have already destroyed 3 resorts, and have injured 4 people. Dean Flener, the guy reporting the story, says the fires have been caused because of strong winds and this is the Southeast's worst drought in a decade. The fire's have been caused by there already being fires set, and strong winds have knocked down trees & power lines, which is the main cause of the spread. The article doesn't say what can be done about it but all that can be done is probably just rain, and the Gatlinburg fire chief says that "if you're a person of prayer, we could use your prayers."
This is so sad and awful that families have to go through this but sometimes wildfires are necessary for new life to form. There are certain types of trees that have seeds that will only open when they are super hot so when a wildfire occurs the seeds are released causing new trees to grow. It is healthy for a forest to be completely wiped out in order for a new healthy forest to form. So yes this is awful but we have to look at it as a positive for the environment and when all is said and done it was necessary.
The article, written by Tony Campolo and Shane Claiborne, says that the Evangelical Christians now have a bad name because of its close association with Donald Trump. Even some conservative Evangelicals oppose Trump, as they feel like Trump is not a good example of their faith. The author mentions how we're giving other countries a reason to doubt our faith, because we elected a xenophobic and sexist man as our leader. The author calls for a new name for Evangelical beliefs, because it is now associated with Trump
This article talks about how Donald Trump wants to punish people who burn the flag by stripping their citizenship and throwing them in jail. This shows that Donald Trump doesn't fully understand the constitution, hence the title of the article. Flag burning is technically protected by the first amendment because it is a method of speech, though a vulgar one at that. Vulgar as it is, it is still a method of speech and therefore protected. Trump also doesn't have to the power to strip anyone of their citizenship, and neither does congress. It's ironic that Trump stood up for the freedom to say brutal and unpleasant things, but when it's an unpleasant thing he disagrees with, he threatens. As mentioned before, flag burning is technically protected, but there are a lot of Americans who don't know that. And with Trump's 16 million followers on Twitter, he will continue to feed them ignorance
I agree with Jimmy and think that it is unconstitutional to take somebody's citizenship for burning the flag. I think that it is wrong to burn the flag, but everyone should have the right to do so because it is method of speech. Trump's tweet about sentencing people to a year in jail or taking their citizenship is an example of him not understanding basic protected rights. I think he should know more about the people's rights since he talks so much about protecting the second amendment.
Trump has no right to take away someone's citizenship or send them to jail for burning the flag. Like you said, it's a method a speech, which is protected by the first amendment. Besides these people aren't putting anybody's life into jeopardy. Trump is clearly ignorant and if he can't even understand one's basic rights then I wonder how he'll even manage the presidency.
The election has the nation divided. With people who don't want to believe Trump is going to be president and that Hillary got more votes. The Green Party Nominee Jill Stein wants to recount Michigan, Wisconsin, & Pennsylvania votes. She got 51,463 votes in Michigan to Trump's 2,279,543 that would seem like her futility. But the real goal is to increase her donor database. Her campaign drawn more than $6 million. But, she said she wants to reform the nation's messy voting system.
I think that people just need to accept what happened because at this point what happened cannot be changed.I think that includes Jill Stein the Green Party Candidate. All Americans need to calm down about it, it happened and now we all have to deal with those consequences together.
If your upset over the election, buck up it's over. Your country needs you. You may out of power, but your not powerless. Trump was elected on fake news, fake minority outreach and 11-hour email head fake by James Comey. During the campaign trump lied and made promises he knew he couldn't keep. Although Russia in a way won a new phase of the cold war by dabbing in our election. And Trump having a weird bromance with Putin. Since winning Trump has aimed the fundamentals of our constitutional democracy while, threatening to revoke Citizenship for the constitutionally protected act of flag burning. But even more he has brought together advisers of billionaires, bigots, homophobes, Islamaphobes, and white supremacy believers. Some have called this the Monster Ball.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/01/health/texas-abortion-fetal-burial-cremation-trnd/index.html Recently in Texas new laws were passed requiring abortion clinics to either bury or cremate the fetal remains. This is what Texas settled for after being turned down the right to make abortions illegal. The women who go through the abortion procedure would not only have to pay up too 900 dollars for the abortion and then up to 4000 dollars for the burial or cremation. The new law would be justified if it was for women's health but it isn't really helping women at all it is just a way for Texans to try to put an end to abortion. This is unfair to the mother and the family of the mother and the only reasoning supporters of the law have is they are giving a voice to the unborn babies. The laws are absurd and unnecessary but as of now it is what the women of Texas have to deal with.
I think this law is ridiculous. If you are going to make this a law then they should just make abortion in general illegal. Nobody should have to pay that much money if they don't even want to bury or cremate it, there is a reason why they got an abortion. If they don't want the child, I doubt they would want to do this. I think government should just stay out of abortion anyway.
I also did my blog, on abortion too, and I couldn't agree with you more. I already think that the costs for abortion are high enough, let alone the cost of the burial for the fetus or however you want to refer to it. This law is completely unnecessary, and I agree with you that the only reason that Texans want to pass this law is to increase restrictions on abortion.
The Democratic party isn't necessarily going 'extinct', that is just a very pessimistic way to look at this election. Democrats are still striving and they are still attacking Donald Trump. Hillary won the popular vote and considering she is a Democrat it is weird that you could look at it as Democrats going extinct. The Democratic candidate had more votes than the Republican candidate. Also in this article the author says how Ohio voted Republican, but that has nothing to do with Democrats failing in Ohio, electoral votes...
Obama- a democrat who won two terms in a row. The US is a two party system. If we have the democrats winning every time, this country would probably turn into a one party system. Although the traditions of different party nominees would remain the same, everyone would know that US is a democratic country. Were not at that state yet. We still have half of the nation being Republicans. We can't make everyone happy. Sometimes democrats win, sometimes republicans win. America will survive.
This article is about Trump's attorney general, Jeff Sessions. He went "several extra miles" to stop a gay rights group from holding a conference on a public college campus. Jeff Sessions claims that it was his responsibility to "defend the laws of the legislature." I disagree that it was his responsibility to stop this conference simply because everyone has the right to have meetings. Trying to interrupt a group conference that isn't harming anybody is a waste of time, and I feel like there are many more important things that an attorney general could be worrying about. Jeff Sessions has voted against measures that expand hate crime laws trying to include attacks over sexuality. This is an example of supporting discrimination.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/30/politics/supreme-court-detained-immigrants/index.html I completely understand that it is illegal to come here as an immigrant but I do not think that they should be detained for no reason. Some of these people come here hoping to build better lives for them and their families. They risk it all and come here illegally as a last option. I don't think that they get fair opportunities in this country. America has complained so much about the amount of illegal immigrants in this country but have never done anything to help them stay here legally. If these people are here illegally it is because it is nearly impossibly to get some sort of opportunity to live in the U.S legally. There has been tons and tons of families have been separated. It would be different if they detain or send back a person who created a crime, but some of these people are innocent and are being ripped away from their families.
Kyle Berkhemer I agree. Becoming a citizen in this country is very hard and that is why we have so many illegal immigrants. If the system made it easier for people to become citizens, more people would have job opportunities and more success in life. People shouldnt have to leave the country because of where they were born, because nobody made that choice. Everyone deserves the chance to a happy life.
This article by Mr. William M. Leogrande is about American relations with Cuba. How Mr. Donald J. Trump doesn't understand what those relations are really like because he doesn't follow the traditional rules of politics. Will Trump's Unconventional ways he had a business man follow him to the whit house? They have worked for him thus far. Many deals went down to make the Cuba-America relations what they are today. With Obama as President Cuba has made some improvements on things like religious freedom in their country, will Trump ruin it?
A Michigan attorney is trying to stop Jill Stein from casting a recount. He says that it is expensive and has filed an emergency motion with the supreme court to stop it from happening. Michigan was only won by .2%, but voters apparently rejected Jill Stein as a candidate. Jill says that you can't tell unless you're counting paper votes, but counting paper votes is even less accurate which is why we have technology. The attorney of Michigan might be trying to stop it because the state could change to win Hillary's vote. He says that it is a violation of Michigan laws that protect integrity of elections. He says that she is risking losing the people's voice.
This article written by Heather Long talks about the American economy, and how over the years it got better. Trump talks about how our economy is terrible, and that Obama is doing a terrible job. When Obama stepped in, in 2009, the unemployment rate was 10%. After Obamas 8 years, the unemployment rate is 4.6%. Even though we don't have a great economy, Obama deserves credit because of what he has done. Even though he wasn't a perfect president, Obama did some good things to our economy. Obama will give Trump a pretty good gift! A pretty good economy!
I totally agree with you Obama did many good things for our country. To think he made unemployment rates go from 10% to 4.6% in 8 years is pretty good. Obama was a pretty good president many people will miss him when he leaves the offices in January. I also agree that our economy isn't all that great but we were struggling before 2008 and i believe Obama help us out with that. Im truly thank for him and I'm glad he was our president for 8 years.
This article was written by Michele L. Swers. This article is titled "what Trump's election could mean for women." Throughout campaigning, Trump has embraced two policy areas with major implications for women, and these two policies are help for working families, and abortion. Donald Trump, as most Republicans do, wants to reduce the availability for abortion. I honestly think that it's crazy, that anyone could ever think that a man...should ever have a say in what a woman does with her body. The Supreme Court has long been divided on abortion, this causing the federal government to give abortion rights/restrictions to the states. I don't know why Trump, actually, anyone in that case cares so much about something that has absolutely nothing to do with them, and doesn't affect them personally, in any way. Republicans try so hard to increase abortion restrictions, and it's honestly insane. The government should have absolutely no involvement in our moral beliefs and personal lives. For Trump to succeed in eliminating abortion clinics would be absurd, and will hopefully, most likely never happen.
