This just does not make sense. Why give more power to the president and his constituents, the same people who neglected the veterans and many other people. Why give them the power to use our government freely if they are not acting in our best interests? When you give someone this kind of power you allow so many different problems to come in.
This was very contradicting, why would we send troops on the ground in one place and remove troops from another? Giving the authority to the President that has promised so much for our veterans but we have hardly seen a difference. The differences we have seen are the same as how he said we would be out of war in one place, but then we enter it in another.
i agree very much, its just so dumb in my eyes. its like getting a car and handing it back to the dealership. its your car, but the dealership has it. congress, the only branch which can ultimately decide whther to declare war has basically handed it over to the president. I feel like this is not going to go well.
This is a big deal because this is the first time the republicans have really dominated the houses in a very long time. By them having the lead they now have a higher notch on the ladder if you will. That allows them to have more of a say in things all around the world. Im thinking we are going to see some major changes coming up soon.
The Republicans Haven't Won Just yet. They have a majority but Obama is going to be a massive pain for the next 2 years. He's going to stop them from doing anything major and it will be hard to get the support to over idea a veto. Even if all the Republicans voted the same way there are still going to need some democratic support. To make sweeping changes they need to get a Republican president and solidly the number of sets they control in the houses. The Republicans Haven't Won Just yet and could still screw it up.
It's both surprising and not surprising at the same time. I don't understand why the students weren't watched while having the Internet access. Why wouldn't they make it a priority to watch the kids when they were distributed Internet access? I think it's a good learning tool, but when you put kids in that situation where they aren't watched, that's what's going to happen.
I completely agree, if you're going to give them internet access , then why not watch them? They also could have put blocks on he computers just like they do our school. I know that their are some kids that can easily get around the blocks, but most kids, can not. I agree that its both surprising and not surprising, it was like they set themselves up for it to happen.
I agree with the author. It makes sense to offer what Obama is offering, but why would he only direct his attention to free college? What happens after college? What happens when what they want to do isn't accessible when they graduate from college? I agree that he should make a plan to increase industry and job flow before he starts offering kids free college money
I agree and disagree with Obama's idea about free community college. Yes, because it helps out the students who really want to attend college but can't afford it. But no because it would cause a debate with all tax payers. They won't agree about paying more money for someone else education. I'm honestly in between with this decision because it supports the American dream of being successful in life. But at the same time they prevent getting into more debt.
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/03/opinion/president-obamas-new-budget.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 I like this idea because although it would be spending double the amount, at least Obama is doing everything he said he would. http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2015/02/04/regulate-internet-providers/dont-make-the-internet-a-public-utility In this article, the author explains why he believes the FCC recent ruling, declaring the internet as a public utility, is wrong. His argument revolves around the fact historically, public utilities have been industries in which there is a monopoly. The author argues that the internet is not one of these industries. The author fails to talk about the real issue here which is net neutrality. By making this ruling, the FCC is stopping internet providers from creating “internet fast lanes,” a scenario in which certain websites get preferential treatment. The FCC’s ruling paves the way for a future of open internet. While I would normally be opposed to government interference in an this kind of industry, the preservation of an open internet demands it.
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/04/opinion/europes-expanding-right-to-be-forgotten.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 In this article, the author writes about the EU’s recent demands to expand their “right to be forgotten” laws that have been enshrouded in controversy from their very start. The idea is that citizens, who may have troubling information from their past on the internet, can have search engines like Google pull these links from their search results. This is worrisome because search engines like Google are indexes of the internet. If people can no longer use these services to reliably search the web, the government has effectively censored the content. Currently, this law only applies to the Google sites in europe such as google.fr (France), but now the EU wants it to apply to all of Google, essentially censoring the site across the world. As the author writes, this legislation is getting into dangerous territory that could impact much more than European lawmakers may realize.
This is very interesting, I wonder what some Europeans have against the internet. This is the second time I've seen them in the past few weeks wanting to censor it, by allowing large companies to take down information. If they keep pushing for things like this, who knows, they might prove us all wrong. But I do agree with the author.
Although these photos are disturbing, wrong, and inhumane, I do not belive it is the US's duty to stand up for these people in Islam. That is not our country, we have no right to step in and cause issues with them over things that are beyond our control, although this may seem heartless, but their country, and their men can fight for what they believe is right, our country already did that.
I agree. I feel as if we're getting into things without fully diving in which is not the right way to approach the situation. We arent necessarily at war but were trying to be the good guy and we cant play that role without being completely involved. My point is very opinionated but we keep doing things such as standing up for people or sending airstrikes without declaring war.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/02/05/politics/putin-russia-us-ukraine-arming-rebels/index.html Russia is starting a conflict with Ukraine by interfering in their territory, terrorizing more citizen and also not participating in any negotiation with Ukraine. They are also refusing Ukraine the patrol of it's own border. Are they really allow to do this? They are bring weapons of death to Ukraine territory. So the president Obama wants to send lethal defensive arms to the Ukrainian government. And also wants to start proxy war but the U.S wouldn't be involved? Lets see what decision the president makes.
Yet again the question on whether or not lethal injection is humane for a death sentence. Many people on death row have made a case about how lethal injection causes severe pain and a slow death. The Supreme Court stepped in to take the case of Warner v. Gross a lawsuit brought by four Oklahoma death row inmates who pleaded that the Lethal injection caused severe pain and suffering. Many think that the idea of a humane death penalty is quite contradictory to themselves. But the act itself is brutal and violent and should just pursue to the level of which they shouldn't consider it being humane if the person on death penalty has done something horrible to put them on death row.
Since mid January the fighting between the Ukranian army and the russian based rebels has increased tremendously. The Vice News crew followed the 43rd battalion of the Ukranian Army. The Battalion has been protecting the city of Sloviansk from the Donetsk People's Republic. The Ukranian Army is dressed much in items donated from other nations such as Germany and Britain. With the 43rd battalion anxious to fight the offensive of the DNR (Donetsks People's Republic) only time will tell what will the end of this war will hold.
This Article is something I feel everyone should read. This is a great way for kids who come from bad families, and are taught by observational learning to do bad things. this showsthem how to get back on heir feet. The article says "After the scandals, the Texas Legislature barred localities from sending children convicted of misdemeanors to state facilities and gave hundreds of millions of dollars to local juvenile probation departments for guidance and rehabilitation services closer to home, often in residential facilities" I think the rehabilitation and guidance are really good for these teens.
In this article, the author talks about the four ideas from a statement by the Elders (an independent group of global leaders) to strengthen the UN. They are as follows: -Having permanent members instead serve long terms and be eligible for immediate re-election -The permanent leaders must not allow their disagreements to mean no action will be taken, and never to act simply in the interest of their own nation. -Allow the people being affected directly have a say in decisions. -And the election of the leader to be open and thorough, not behind closed doors. I think these are all great ideas. It would make the UN more democratic, which it should be. I just think that the UN should be very efficient and reliable since it oversees the world, not just a nation.

From the recent republican sweep across the nation I wonder if it will happen in Columbus. Being a very liberal city I think a Democrat would win. What about you guys? Any candidates you like in particular?
