This could be a game changer for America. You have to look at things from both angles. What would happen if you didn't jump on the situation and what would happen if you did. It is a risk any way you go about it but that's what needs to be decided. And they decided that the outcome was worth the risk .

    1. I honestly think this could be a good risk for the US and all the other countries that hold sanctions on Iran. this man is willing and trying to bring his country out. he is as proud of his country as much as we are. its a tough decision. Obama has even some democrats thinking they should raise the sanctions. in fact they think they should make them even stricter.

This has to be one of the most annoying things I have ever read. They want to raise taxes to fix roads ? But we all know that the second they got the money they are not going to jump on getting the roads done. It is still going to take just as long as it does now.

I agree with Asia, its like when you go pants shopping and you see a deal of buy one get one half off, but then you realize a pair of pants are like 60 bucks and you do the calculations and realize your going to be spending almost 100 bucks on pants. there's always a catch, and they'll raise the taxes and be like "hey! we don't need to fix the roads!" lets go build an unnecessarily huge pool in the back of my house.

With the amount of trouble that has gone into trying to keep America a safe place, they then add on the problems by rejecting visa's to those in Afghanistan. It's understandable that some will be denied because there is a limit that Washington has to follow, but for these people to be denied because they could be a "potential threat" is demeaning and racist. "Equality in politics, inequality in economics".

I like the ending of the article, because it puts things in a different perspective. Maybe this "sad child" is what is built up in each modern person's head. Also, it opens the eyes of society. It talked about how some people are comfortable with others suffering because they believe its necessary for the world, but this article points out that its not.

Oh come on. If we can not keep the promises we made to the Afghans then who can we? These are people who are very important and if the government can not keep their promises then we need to find someone who will. We need to look at our government and decide who will best suit Americas needs and the promises to other nations.

    1. This is basically discrimating against Afghans, we promised them they could enter our country, but once they went against their own we denied them access. Where are they supposed to go now, as the article said now they can't return back. We need to find a way to keep America safe, without making it seem like anyone from Afghanistan is going to be a terrorist when enetering our country, we have the world at our fingertips so dig deep into their backgrounds, and keep promises while keeping America safe.

This is just like what we were talking about in our class. There are some people who believe that the best thing you can do is join a union. They believe your voice will be heard, you will get very involved in politics and the world. This makes them feel important and that the government is doing what is the best for all the people.

I actually find this article to be quite funny. I mean come on! this bartender literally accused of Senator Boehner being the one to start Ebola and called the Republican party "The devil". I mean like whatttt? all laughing aside, the bartender tried to poison Boehner by putting it in his drink. this man, Hoyt, the bartender, has a mental break down 2 years ago, I mean is this really a man who you want working under you, nevertheless, around citizens.

In this article, the writer says that joining al Qaeda isn't grounds for the revokement of citizenship. It's extremely easy for al Qaeda members to cross borders of any country. I completely agree with the writer. An attack could be close and could hit home at any minute. It just happened to France literally a week or 2 ago. It confuses me on why and how that happened, especially when we have had so many threats from terrorism for as long as we can remember. I don't agree with the decisions the legislators have made about allowing only candidates with more than 8 years of education to run. Because that takes women and children out of the whole opportunity to be elected. India clearly doesn't stand for a representative democracy, and they clearly do not want women having a chance to run the state because the rules get more and more strict. It is ridiculous that there are now laws involving the amount of kids a candidate can have as well because now men are leaving their family and the abortion rate is through the roof.

This article shows how the government can wrongfully convict and imprison someone. It's terrifying to think that the government makes mistakes like this all the time. Even though "everyone makes mistakes" you are getting a chunk of your life taken away from you. "payments totaling $17 million to three men who spent a combined 60 years in prison. The men — Robert Hill, Alvena Jennette and Darryl Austin — were each convicted of murders in cases handled by Louis Scarcella, a Brooklyn homicide detective whose tactics are now under review by Kenneth Thompson, the Brooklyn district attorney. Their convictions were vacated in May after prosecutors admitted that a witness Mr. Scarcella repeatedly used was unreliable. (Last year, Mr. Stringer paid $6.4 million to David Ranta, who was freed in 2013 after serving 23 years on a wrongful murder conviction, also involving Mr. Scarcella.)" This is what the article states, its so crazy to think that this could happen anywhere to anyone.

It's inspiring to know that France wants to stand up to the anti-jews and keep their faith in the country they live in, but I also think it's a safe call for all those who left. The fact that all of these events leading up to the shooting last week hasn't caused most of France to run away to Israel is a commitment. Most of the people though who did leave to Israel probably understand how hard it is right now and just to be sure they left.

President Obama proposed privacy laws that could give americans a greater control of their personal information. I really would like to see this happen. so much information on people get leaked when it is no ones business. there is no way to possibly stop this from happening, but I feel if we had more control over our personal information it would reduce a lot of these cases. the article says "Some of Mr. Obama’s ideas should have bipartisan appeal. For example, he wants to forbid companies from using data about students that they collect when they sell software and services to primary and secondary schools for marketing purposes." This is a major thing that happens world wide that the children don't always have a say in. I think we should watch closely for these laws

    1. I think this law is a good idea because it'll prevents information that shouldn't be leaked from being leaked. At the same time is has it's disadvantages because if someone were to commit a serious crime or a terrorist wanted to attack, the government would hopefully find out before it occurs. Sometimes they find out before it occurs and sometimes they don't. It's better to not take any changes. Obviously everyone dislikes the fact the government has access to our information, but it's something that has advantages and disadvantages.

How to Spend New York’s Spare $5 Billion
This article was about how New York has an extra $5 billion in their budget to spend. The aithor thinks that this money should not be spent on something that is a recurring expense or disappear into the state budget. I agree with the author of this article that this article. I think that the money should be spent on a one time project that helps the citizens of new york.

    ReplyDelete

    1. If New York has that extra money then why not help the country pay off some debts. They may use some for the people of New York and other things the state needs. If every state ever has extra money to spend, then why not just help out the country? It might not be a lot for the debts but it's still something. Also if the states have their own money to spend then why not let each other borrow from one another inside of asking other countries?

    2. I also agree that a project would be very nice but Yanira is right and i think that our priorities will be way out of place if we go with the project and not w ith paying our debts. I might sound dumb for this example but if I had a lot of money saved up would it be better to spend it on looking nice and "fancy"(NY) or I could use my hard earned money on something valuable and long term like college. I'm just saying, in the end what will help our country long term?

    4. That is amazing that New York has five billion extra dollars to spend. I kind of agree with you Jonathan. I do believe it should help the New York citizens, but I don't believe it should be all in one big time project. In this article, the author writes about a fundamental divide within the conservative Republican ranks of the government. He says that the many Republicans attacking Boehner last week exemplified a major problem with the the party as a whole. The idea that those conservatives who are open to compromise and have an overall positive disposition are being labeled “cowards” is the main theme of the article. In my opinion, the author is absolutely correct. American politics will do nothing but pass the Republicans by if they continue to be overtly negative and hostile. It is essential to the party that they get a positive candidate for the 2016 Presidential election.

In this article, the author writes that North Korea may now be open to negotiations regarding their nuclear programs. With the caveat that the United States halt military exercises with South Korea, the North recently has said they would be open to talks. The author is in favor of the United States doing this, claiming the potential reckless danger of North Korea. I disagree with the author. North Korea has threatened this country as long as I can remember. Continued sanctions on them have to be the best answer, as this new openness to negotiations could be nothing more than them pulling our country’s metaphorical leg.

In this article the author talks about how France and they entire European Union, which consists of other leaders in Europe, plan to protects themselves from future terrorist attacks. They have announced that they will allow internet service providers, to monitor and even take down content that they feel promotes hate or terror. They have already passed a law that gives airlines the power to take away a traveler's passport if they think the person might be going to join a hate group. I know that law is causing many problems. This law opens the door for discrimination, stereotypes, and the systematic form modern racism that is all too common in the world today. Protection and nation defense can be a tricky policy and this is an example of it gone wrong.

    1. This is how democracy dies. This takes away the people's right to organize. What people view as a hate crime is very different. A group could be talking about abortion only to have there group disbanded because it's a hate crime against religion. It also gives officials all the power they want. They could just claim its a hate crime and there opposition would disappear. Again this is how democracy and free will die.

They are only doing this for the publics safety, not to infringe rights.

Very interestingly, this article talks about how many office buildings are becoming open-floored. But, this causes workers to be under more stress from the lack of concentration and privacy. I think is very true because my mom worked in a office in close proximity with co-workers and she was really bothered being so close all the time. In a new building, they finally got some space and she is a lot happier. My dad works in separated cubicles and I never hear him complaining that he is too close to his co-workers. I think it's good the president Obama isn't going to let himself be pushed around by the republican. I think he's wise in standing for what he believes. After all the people selected him because they think he's good enough to lead the country. "he's prepared to keep opposing legislation he finds objectionable" this is good because it shows he is a strong individual and won't allow himself to be pushed around. I wonder if since he's liberal if we will do anything about the gay marriages if the republican attempt to not let it be allowed. "Earlier this week, House Republicans voted to reverse his directives from last November sparing millions of illegal immigrants from deportation and offering them work permits" I wonder what he'll do in respect of this. I hope he in fact does say that he'll keep doing what is right and he'll help out these people. I overall think he is smart to keep on doing what he wants. Although him being liberal and they are conservatives there will be a lot of conflict. All in all I think it's smart of him to keep doing what he thinks is correct.

  29. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/01/16/us/secure-communities-immigration-program-battle.html
This makes me sad and mad that the republicans do to want hard working peaceful people here. In all honesty they are tax payers and don't have any crimes then what's the problem with allowing them to stay. In fact by deporting people like that the only thing that they accomplish is separating families which I think is terrible. Such as Mr. Rosales who had to stay at a church to avoid deportation is a great example. He is a father and with him being deported there would be children without a father and a separated family. So I think having people here that won't cause any conflict is better than separating families and causing people pain. So I hope Obama will keep on working to find a way that he will help immigrants to stay here. I think it'll be very good and beneficial to many people. All in all I hope Obama keeps on working to help immigrants.

From this I hope that people are allowed to marry who they wish. Although it may not specifically list in the constitution that gay people are allowed to marry I think it's just a basic right. Honestly they should be able to marry. It's just fair that they can marry someone they love just like any other person can. If someone dislikes it in all honesty they should just ignore it. This is because them marring doesn't affect them at all. "Less worthy of respect than opposite-sex relationships.” this quote sincerely angers me because of the fact that Kentucky views them with less respect. I think this is just absurd due to the fact that they are human like all of us and because of that they should receive as much respect as anybody else. I don't understand why Kentucky would view them like that just for that. I think all states should allow it so where ever these couples go they'll review the same respect as a state that allows then to get married. This will cause their life's to be easier. The constitution says "We the people" which I'm sure that meant everybody including gays. Hence they should have the right to be married.

Without then finding these people then they most likely would have gone through with the horrible plan. They also found guns. So that's good that they are obtaining there arms to get them weaker. I hope they get all of these horrible people who cause so much pain. There need to be no more violence. They have cause enough damage. 32. At the human robot interaction laboratory in Tufts university the researchers have ran into a dilemma. It's a scenario, but beyond that it's led to the dilemma of whether or not a robot can make ethical choices. A woman is in pain and can't move, she has a robot assistant that gives her medicine and takes care of her. The robot has to ask a supervisor each time whether or not it can give the woman medicine, for the fear of an overdose or something of that sort. The woman is crying in pain for the robot to give her painkillers because she is experiencing a lot of pain. But however the network is down, and the robot can't reach the supervisor to tell it to give her medicine. What would the robot do? That's what the dilemma is. So the researchers at Tufts are trying to create ethical decisive skill for robots.

This video talks about the different views on MLK day, and also about how Selma is getting out the word to people. Selma apparently had profanity so some schools decided to not show it, although the video was originally intended to connect the past to things happening today such as Ferguson. The point is to relate how much Martin Luther King Jr has helped our future, and to create a diverse culture to create a happiness and peace.

Most Republicans obviously don't agree with Obama, but he has realistic goals. Hes hoping for childcare which is expensive and essential, but Congress acts like it is an option. I do think the free community college may be going a little over board only because it would raise taxes, and that is something Obama has promised to lower. He is kind of contradicting himself, although with the whole State of The Union, I was overall impressed with what he had to say.

In this article, the author sums up President Obama’s state of the union address, writing that the President did a good job considering the current state of Congress. After reading this article, I came to the same conclusion that the author came to. Political gridlock it almost certainly going to control the next two years. The economic reforms President Obama talked about in his speech are liberal in their nature - raise taxes on the rich and funnel it down to the lower economic classes. With a Republican majority in both Houses of Congress, it is hard to imagine these things will see the light of day.

    1. I would also agree with the author. Gridlock is inevitable, and President Obama sort of addressed this in his speech saying that there are some things in his proposals that republicans can agree with him on and if they are willing to at least to meet in the middle he would be satisfied. But, honestly I don't see anyone taking him up on that offer. I feel like one of the reoccurring themes in Obama's speech was harmony between the parties. It's a nice thought I guess.

    2. I think that there will be a lot less gridlock than everyone is thinking. Yes the ideas are very liberal , but if there was a time for compromise this is it. He is effectively a lame duck because he has no more elections. He has no reason to stay loyal to his party and has gone against his party in the past. During the next 2 years we can either start compromising to get things done or we will have the worst gridlock in political history. This will be congresses biggest test ever. In order to survive both parties must take the high road so we can get the best period of c operation to face off against these changing times.

In this article, the author writes about the logistical and ethical problems with holding the 2016 Democratic national convention in Brooklyn. He writes that due to the location of the Barclay’s Center, the proposed arena, a traffic and parking nightmare would ensue. Ethically, the arena is owned by a man with ties to Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, a man that the United States isn’t exactly friends with. While I agree that logistically this sounds like a nightmare, I think the ethical problems the author refers to may be knit-picking. An interesting aspect of this story is that Columbus is one of the cities being considered for this convention, so the issues mentioned in this article could bode well for our own city.

In this article, the author talks about how almost 50 years ago, the Black Panther Party called for the end of police brutality and murder African-Americans. They organized and, relying on their second amendment right, armed themselves and stationed themselves around Oakland, California monitoring the police. The author makes a connection about how today something similar is happening, but now, instead of shootouts between civilians and police, African Americans mostly are assembling peacefully. Two generations of people are fighting for the same thing in very different ways. I think this article is very interesting and I'm grateful that I live in the more peaceful of the eras, and for the rights, we as a race, have gained.

This is very baffling how someone would want to willingly join ISIS. That group treats humans very horrible and for someone to want to join it makes me wonder why. The four years she got I guess is understandable. On one hand she did try to join that horrible group that threatens people's safety and that has no explanation. She does deserve something for trying to join. She most likely has to agree with what that group has to say so she is a danger. It's good the government is making sure that everybody is safe. They need to show that there are consequences for actions such as that.

It's good that Alabama is accepting their marriage. It's shouldn't even have to be discussed. If one state does something such as a marriage then the rest of the states should accept it. Since we are one big country made up of those states. All those states should agree. Expecially on something such as marriage. I don't understand why they would ban the marriage in the first place. Honestly there are bigger issues to be more concerned about.

Hopefully these people will be able to marry. They deserve to be happy and be with who they wish to be with. The fact that they have to wait on a judge is in my opinion sad. They should already have the right to be able to marry. In all honestly gays marrying one another does absolutely nothing to anybody. Truly the only people affected by the marriage are the two people. And the way they are being affected is actually positive because they can be with who they love. People being able to marry each other should be a basic right. Love is something all humans beings have so they should be aloud to marry. I hope these people will be granted the right to be legally married.

Jorge Ramos is a reporter i know about due to the fact that I watch Univision. I'm glad he is being outspoken about the immigration and sharing his opinion. He agrees with my opinion in the illegals should be given a chance of being able to stay here legally without having to worry. He has interviewed president Obama before. He seems to be very outspoken about this issue. I'm glad he's representing the Hispanic culture in big media outlets to share out of opinion of helping illegals. So I'm glad that he is making sure that the immigration proposal isn't something that'll just be forgotten about it's something we are going to fight for.

It may be unrealistic to ask the leader of isil to step down but I do believe that it would be easier for America to back away from that situation because they have already taken over half the country. They are dangerous and Obama refuses to send troops so it's fighting a pointless battle .

It's very brave of Obama I say that he went ahead and continued for these changes that Republicans will try to fight off in 2016 once he leaves. Even though he was left by his party and is dealt with the Republicans, I believe Obama is handling everything very well. He's continuing to go through with everything he said he would.

It's amazing how much money has been spent on campaigning and it's even crazier that it will continue to rise through 2016, obviously with Obama leaving there will be nothing but campaigning . It's good to know that a lot of the money spent came from donations , that means other care and want to be more involved in the political process as well as benefiting the candidate .
