http://www.cbsnews.com/news/obama-praises-advancements-in-fight-against-hiv-aids/ This article is about Obama praising the new advancements in the fight against the worlds deadliest STD. He also shows off how the health care law will give people access to testing and the ability to get insurance coverage. There is also a $100 million initiative at the NHI to seek a cure for HIV. I agree with this because this will allow those who can't afford to get tested for infection, to be able to be tested and treated. I also agree with funds going to find a cure for HIV.
I think these are great strides and accomplishments not only for just our country but for the entire world in trying to diminish this disease. It is saddening that so many people that live in poor countries are not able to get treated or even tested for diseases such as AIDS and HIV. I think that PEPFAR was an amazing thing created by former President Bush, it has surely changed the lives of many people. Efforts like these show that this world still has very much compassion for each other, it really gives hope.
I agree with both of you ladies. I believe that the option for those to be tested will allow awareness to be spread on how badly this is affecting the country, even the entire world. I think people should have the right to a better health no matter who they are and where they come from. It should be one of our goals in this country to protect everyone and make sure we are getting the personal care we need for living a long, healthy life.
The affordable care act is a good idea in the sense that it does help those who are on medicate, social security or un-employment who can’t afford insurance. Apparently now it is also good because of major scientific cure such as HIV. This in my opinion is a great find and but this is just a publicity stunt by Obama saying “Hey look, my plan wasn’t so bad after all……. right?” Wrong! The affordable care still seems forced to me and it should be amended
It's so refreshing to see people making strides towards curing this disease. And getting tested and other safety precautions can get really expensive, it's good to see something being out there to make access to tests easier. People should hold their health in higher priority. Awareness is key, and it's good that people are becoming more aware of this issue.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/white-house-urges-n-korea-to-release-us-citizen-newman/ This article is about an 85-year old war veteran who was detained in October. The veteran was accused of killing civilians in the Korean War 60 years ago. The Embassy of Sweden asked North Korea to release Merrill Newman, the war veteran, due to his age and advanced health issues. Technically there was no signed peace treaty between the United States, South Korea, and North Korea. I believe that North Korea should release Mr. Newman because he is an elderly man and it was over 60 years ago. They do not have an solid proof that it was Mr. Newman who killed the civilians.
That is complete and utter bull crap. First this vet goes out and fights for this country and now that North/South Korea wants to charge him with nonsense the government isn’t fighting hard enough to get him back home? He’d not only elderly he’s a war veteran. He did what he had to 60 years ago during a time of what i assume to be war this shouldn’t be news. North/South Korea is just trying to pick a fight there isn’t a good enough reason as to why this is happening 60 years later.
They don't have solid proof that this guy was the one who did it, and it was a crime committed over 60 years ago? They really should just let the poor old guy go. The government should really try harder to get this guy back. North Korea is just sick. It's totally inhumane that they would do anything like this. He's old and his health isn't good. Trying to do anything to him now is just ludicrous.
This article is discussing a law being passed to gradually raise minimum wage in Washington D.C. to $11.50 an hour. The raise will increase slowly over the course of 3 years. The national minimum wage is only $7.50 yet over 20 states have a minimum wage set above the federal level. President Obama has even campaigned for a higher federal minimum. It is a good thing in my opinion to raise minimum wages because the cost of living is constantly going up and minimum wage isn't rising with it, this will benefit everyday people trying to survive.
I think the increase of living costs cannot be met with the current minimum wage requirement. Many are already living paycheck to paycheck and don"t have extra money to enjoy leisure activities, much less being able to pay all of their bills. I think if minimum wage was raised to $25.00 an hour then the cost of living would skyrocket due to massive amounts of inflation. I don't believe raising minimum wage would make a financial difference because living costs are going to change (increase) no matter what.
I personally don't think that minimum wage is the issue with people not meeting the standard of living, because the standard of living will raise as long as we have an inflated economy. Things will continue to cost more and more, as we get more money companies will start to make their products cost more money due to the reactive nature of our society. If minimum wage all of a sudden went up to $25.00 and hour, it would just mean harder times finding jobs because companies will be more likely to use overseas labor even more so then they already are. As well as have to charge more for products because they are paying more in labor.
Raising minimum wage in my opinion would be a good thing because like Gabby said the cost of living is increasing and thape standard of living cannot be met with 7.50 a hour.
This article is about China's claim over islands and flying zones that Japan too claims and the US's concerns about that. The US is concerned because both China and Japan claim these areas and flight zones, China will soon engage in an attack to gain control of those areas. Biden is going to ask the Chinese leaders what their military intentions are when he meets with them. This is a problem for the US because the military is not complying with the zones and will continue to do what it wants. Some commercial airlines are complying but this could be trouble because China or Japan could try to attack one of our planes for flying over their claimed areas. http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/04/world/asia/china-us-japan-tensions/index.html?hpt=po_c2
I feel as if we have no business in what islands the Chinese take from Japan, it is Japan's problem and their decision weather or not to fight for these islands not ours. They haven't taken very strenuous actions to provoke any force from the United States. Yes they have taken these islands, and that could be enough to provoke force from Japan the owner of the islands. It is however not enough to provoke our force, we should stay out of it unless a direct threat to us, is issued.
I agree with Curtis in saying that we should not really get involved in this. It seems like China has some really high intentions of attacking and if we get in the way, then that is going to be two different countries that have been attacked. If they really attack us then we should attack back. But if have a feeling that Japan can really fight their own battles and should not need help with this, yet...
we do not need to get in the middle of anymore conflict, we will just let them fight it out until they too tired and just have to agree with each other and hug it out like real men.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/04/us/newtown-911-calls/index.html?hpt=hp_inthenews This article is over the Sandy Hook shooting and whether or not the 911 calls should have been released. The calls were released today, the argument was, should the calls be released or should they not to protect the victims families? According to the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission they could but many TV stations and people felt it should not have been released. Personally, I think they should not have been released because the victims were mostly little innocent kids. If they had been older people, adults, it would not have been so terrible to release these because they have already led a full life and done what they wanted, but these were 20 1st graders.. they were babies. The victims being so young makes this tragedy all more worse, that's why I do not think they should have been released.
This graph and article is showing how the employment rate is actually really low then it has been in a while. Somewhere around last year you would always hear about how there is such a high unemployment rate that it was really affecting america. But this year we stopped hearing about it, so we thought it was fine. Well now it is showing up again and the question is what is the reason for the unemployment rate raising again?
http://money.cnn.com/2013/12/05/news/economy/gdp-report/index.html?hpt=po_c2 This article is about the economy's strength. The unemployment rate is down to 7%. This article goes on to explain if they think its going to last. I think it could last. Its just will people get out and get those jobs or will they just contuine to use all they can and not get a job.
I think that a lot of people enjoy unemployment, especially when they can manipulate the system, so I think that the new job opportunities may not get taken to their full advantage. The citizens on welfare, who could have had a job, have become lazy, and even though this may be a little heartless, I think very few people are going to jump at these opportunities due to their laziness...
http://money.cnn.com/news/specials/debt-crisis/ This article is about how the national debt is and can and will affect us. It might not be affecting us now as bad but it could when we are older. It will for sure hurt the generations after us, badly. Something I recently learned that I thought was kind of cool but seriously sad was that if you took all the money in America and added it up, its not even enough to pay off th national debt... Think about that one.
I really think that we have past the point of no return we can no longer pay off our debts and i think later in the future people and countries will come knocking on our door and ask for the money.i think the only way to solve this is for every country to start off at zero. Other wise the numbers not just for our country but for the worlds countries will only continue to rise.
I honestly think we are at the point of no return as well. Unless our government really dedicates itself to lowering this debt, it will continue to raise. Even if we did, the public would probably not like the actions required to reduce this debt. Also, what happens when the debt just continues to raise? When do we suffer the penalties of this debt?

He was a great leader of South Africa that unified it after years of the apartheid that was happening there. If you don't know what the apartheid is, it is comparable to the Jim Crow laws of American history. Through his efforts he brought his nation out of it and has kept South Africa unified all the way up to now and some even believe that his memory will keep them united for much longer. President Obama did honor his death by setting the flag of the white house at half staff. Obama sees Nelson as a role model for his life.
http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/12/04/21760681-budget-deal-takes-shape-as-deadlines-loom?lite Republican Paul Ryan and Democrat Patty Murray are working on detail for a possible two year long budget agreement. This would end the threat of another government shutdown happening on January 15th. What is known about the bill so far is that it would cover the next two fiscal years, set the top line budget number for both years, and creating that top of the line number at the price between 967 billion to 1.058 trillion dollars (looking largely at the 990 billion dollar range). They are also currently looking for new ways to raise revenue and ways to cut spending. There is a chance it may not pass over with the GOP, but since Ryan's hands took part with it, it gives it a better chance of passing.
I am really happy to know that politicians from both parties are taking part in preventing another shutdown. This will help support the government, because right now, politicians are not in high standings with many citizens. I think that they should focus on ways to cut spending because this will make our debt lower and lead to a better economy and country.
Personally I feel that this is good but it wont last forever. as soon as election time comes around both parties will go back to feuding because in the end all that matters is which party comes out on top, and who can manipulate the people the best. they may be getting along now but how long will it actually last?

They shouldn't be able to just search what every they want at any time they should have a fair and good reason to believe we or whom ever the email belongs to is a threat to the US.
This kind of brings up the issues with the NSA. We should really have our own privacy and pushing for the warranting of retrieving emails is a step towards this. The severity and necessity is what should lead to the government involvement in our own privacy, and they really should only be able to in limited circumstances. The acknowledgement of the government being able to retrieve any of your emails at any time is just very unsettling, and removes our self-security of the reason why we have these private email accounts in the first place.
the government has no business going through private emails or documents. its one thing to look at public things like social media or blogs, but looking into our email or messages without any warrant is not how it should work.
