http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/28/politics/hacking-u-s-charges/index.html?hpt=po_c2 This article discusses how a British man hacked into United States Governments information. Some of this information includes computer systems and confidential government information. They finally caught and charged the man, Lauri Love. I think the government should have been faster at detecting this interruption and stopped him from gaining the information sooner.
It's a bit unsettling that this guy was even able to hack into this stuff in the first place. Things like this really bring into perspective how risky our digital world is. Like, we have all of this information just out there and anyone who is determined enough to access it can. Going off of what you said, though, the government should be more prepared to handle situations like this. There should be more security to prevent situations like this.
Knowing that our government and our country's classified information concerning key aspects of our government such as the Army and NASA not only shows that this country would be severely weak to a cyber attack, but also makes you wonder about what our nation's foes are doing. Are they getting ahold of such information as well? Do they have even more secret information? In response to this, we should toughen up our cyber security, or face a loss of very delicate information.
This article is an example of why the government needs to have better security on information and government computers. This is very concerning that these few men were able to get such securied information about American citizens from the government in the first place. In my opinion this is a problem that shouldnt have happened so easily and should have been discovered and dealt with mor promptly.
This should be a wake up call to the government. Our lives now are put out into the world so much because of social media and technology. This is an embarrassment to the US. This just goes to show that our national security is at risk. The man could have been a terrorist hacking into our system. He could have had all the information he needed to cause another great tragedy.
What this guy is dangerous and he should be punished but I also feel like he showed us something that we needed to see/ know. The American government needed to know that an amateur could easily hack into our system with his amateur computer and retrieve our files and expose us to the world. It shows the American government that we need to tighten up our security. We’ve tighten security when it comes to homeland security but what about software, secrets, plans and deals we have on computers
I don't necessarily think this is bad on the government because there will ALWAYS be vulnerabilities in any system and this guy just happened to get lucky and get through. This goes for the same of just any country.
I think it is bad that this person was able to do this, but it could also help show out these flaws in which this person used to hack in. After the person did this, the government will (hopefully) fix the way that this person got in and so that makes it so other people cannot get into the system this way.
This really is a bad situation that someone can hack into our government and steal sensitive information. We supposedly have some of the best cyber security in the world. We have the NSA that is able to intercept any type communication but it looks like this all-seeing agency is not as good as the news media have portrayed it. It failed to detect and prevent this intrusion; the exact thing that it is supposed to guard against.
No system will ever be completely secure. There will always be a way to hack into something and people like this man will find it. thats why there is always constant updates for things because you have to stay on the move, because if you stop a hacker will figure out how to break through.
Personally I feel that America needs to take responsibility for what happened. It is known that anything that uses technology is never 100% secure and its up to us to do what we can. Maybe we need to go back to the times when everything was write. I mean if everything is a write document and we keep it under lock and key no one can hack us.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/10/27/healthcare-gov-homepage-gets-makeover/?hpt=po_c2 This article discusses the changes made to the HeatlhCare.gov website. There used to be a girl on the website referred to as, "Obamacare Girl" By updating the website, they took down this photo. Gorman made a great comment that expressed how the information on the website is more important than the photographs.
I agree. The content on the website should concern practicality and usability more than it should appearance. Any updates made to the website should be ones focused on fixing it's already existing bugs rather than making aesthetic changes.
I don't know why the removal of a picture of a woman from the HealthCare.gov website is such a huge deal. She wasn't positively effecting the website, or influencing it for that matter. The article even states that many believe she was part of the original pallet for the website's design. What does interest me though is that rather than focusing on keeping their website running, the workers running HealthCare.gov are busying themselves with how aesthetically appealing their website is. I could understand if the website went down once or twice for maybe 5-10 minutes due to maintenance, because most websites do, but for it to have consistent problems, something has to be done and priorities have to be rearranged.
As a fellow web designer, aesthetics do matter as it contributes to fluidity and usability. It should not be the main goal of a governmental health care website but it is a big influence on how users feel about using the web site and its services. Overall, I think that the health care website should have had much more testing done before it was actually sent out to the public.
This article explains what happened with Kathleen Sebelius at the House hearing. During which many Republicans along with other members grilled her about the various flaws in the Obamacare website. She maintained to composure for awhile in the beginning until her frustaration arose. She admitted she had made a big mistake with okaying the release of the website and apologizes for it which is repectable from her part. Yet she can only take so much before she laets her frustation show which in my opinion is understandable. I dont see how it is fair to criticize her so badly for a mistake she admitted to when so many people in the government make mistakes every day which they on the other hand cover up and never own up to.
I completely agree one hundred percent with what you are saying here! I t is completely true that Republicans should not be grilling her like this because they made a huge mistake by putting our government in shutdown, so they should just keep their mouths shut, AND the Republican party is complaining about something not working that they didn't want to work in the first place, which is ridiculous.
I agree with both of you. The Republican party need to just stop and think for a second about how their actions affect the citizens of the United States. You are right Elizabeth all they do is complain about something they don't want and its ridiculous just move on with your lives!
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/30/politics/obamacare-sebelius/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 This article is about how the healthcare website is shut down and how much money is being spent on the website. Although the glitches should be pardoned because there has never been a nationwide government issued health care website, the amount of money spent on the website and trying to get it fixed is ridiculous. No website should ever cost that much to make and fix. The United States government is embarrassing themselves with having spent so much on something other less privileged organizations can do. I think they should still try to get the website up and running because so much effort and money has already been put in to it they might as well finish.
This makes no sense to me because Facebook.com, Twitter.com etc. Are websites people visit every day so I don’t understand how or why a social network could be up and functioning but something as important as a government websites can’t be put up and running properly? And on top of that they are spending all this money on a website but at the same time they are whining about the debt ceiling. It makes no sense to me.
I really do not think so much money should be spent on a website. You hear about all of these problems of the government and the country, but now the most we are hearing about is problems of this website. I really don,t think one website should cost so much money, when hundreds of websites are used daily and created daily and this one website is using up a lot of money.
I agree as well. If the government does not know if the site is working properly, then they should have never posted and released it. So much money was spent on this site and it does not even function correctly. Though there are bigger problems that our government needs to deal with, this website is a big part of Obamacare and should be taken care of immediately.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/craig-newmark/texas-government-working_b_4158615.html So yesterday, I got home and my mom told me to never move to Texas because they are putting a bunch of requirements in place to make it hard for women to vote, and this is ONLY being done to women. Apparently, everysingle document regarding who you are has to say the exact same thing, even your name, so if your license has your married name, but your birth certificate has your maiden name, you will not be able to vote. I think that this is wrong and needs to be stopped.
I agree as well. That is unconstitutional and soon they will figure that out. Many people will protest and make it a very big issue. The women of Texas will make sure their voices are heard. Most women will be able to vote because they are married or were married. That cuts out most voters in the state of Texas. This is highly wrong and disrespectful.
This is terrible. I can understand the need for strong identification requirements for voters to ensure fair elections but this seems to be a law having consequences that were not thought out before being passed. It is hard to imagine that any state could intentionally limit the rights of any group based on gender or even race. I expect that the constitutionality of this law will be addressed in court very soon and it will be struck down. This appears to be an attempt by the Republican Party in power to ensure that only voters that agree with its positions are able to vote in elections; maintaining the current political power situation.
http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/10/31/21264303-booker-sworn-in-to-senate?lite My main man Booker was finally sworn in as senator for New Jersey after the death of former senator Frank Lautenberg. Senate majority leader Harry Reid sees Booker as an asset to the nation and the Senate. Booker finally balances the slight change of power due to the interim senator before Booker was elected. He is considered an ally of Obama.
http://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/10/31/21265362-debt-looms-over-conference-committee-and-over-future-taxpayers?lite This basically discusses how our debt is still rising. Its going to rise to its highest point in american history. Still it discusses how our Congress hasn't been able to make many advances on how to figure out the predicament that we are in. However, some Senators believe that what they have been able to do with what they are given is still decent.
i don't think it's ever going to change. we are always going to be and debt and its always going to keep rising at the rate we are going. They never want to bring debt down, just put it off. this is why we need bill clinton.
