This article does a cute little break down of what should be done and what is expected to happen in order to come up with a deal in order to raise the debt ceiling. They must create a bill by Thursday. Then, we must wait to see if President Obama decides to approve it or not.

    1. This will be interesting to see. I do not see why the government should raise the debt ceiling. We will just keep getting ourselves in more trouble and that will not solve anything. It's sad that our government does not know what to do or how to solve our problems.

    2. i don't get what they think putting us more in debt is going to do. We are just digging ourselves a bigger and bigger hole. sooner or later we are just going to lose all credibility with other countries. if we lose credibility then we lose revenue, which will just set us back further.

Although this seems a little ludicrous, even Mrs. Obama's crops are being affected by the government shutdown! The fruits and vegetables grown in this garden were donated to local organizations and food banks. Since the gardeners and landscapers are laid off due to the shutdown, the garden is overgrown and the veggies are dying!! :( (I may have been a little sarcastic in writing this summary...)

    1. I think its kinda a waste of time to make a big deal about this garden, doesnt the government have other things to worry about than michelles garden. I mean i understand it feeds people but in my opinion the government should be focusing on ending the shutdown not a garden. So what that no one can do her garden, cant she do it herself ?

    2. You know what they say: intelligent people talk about ideas, normal people talk about events, and stupid people talk about other people. Articles like these really are just ways journalists can say more. It's like "EVEN MRS. OBAMA'S GARDEN IS DYING! BOO HOO GOVT SHUTDOWN BAD" It's like when people try to tack more and more things on to a situation to make it worse. I'm sorry Mz Obama...

This article is about obama approving the bill to end the shutdown of the government. I think its great that the government is reopening again also that we has so many goals(to regain american citizens trust) but will he really get all this done? Will the government shutdown again ?

    1. I agree that it is good that the government is reopening. I am not sure that Congress and the President have really accomplished much. They only agreed to this bill to take some of the political pressure off in the short term. We will be facing the same crisis again when this spending authority expires in the middle of January. Based on their childish behavior this time, I can imagine that our representatives will all have a nice Christmas break and then come back to shout about the sky falling again.

This article is about the government shutdown being over. I think the 16 day shutdown was pretty pointless. Congress was being selfish the entire 16 days because they were playing with people’s lively hoods and they’re wellbeing not only did they put them out of work they left them without any money. They might have realized hoe selfish they were being and came to a compromise but they should have come up with a compromise before the 16 days. The inconvenienced a lot of people.

    1. Ding dong the shutdown's dead! I agree with everything you're saying, baby girl. Absolutely pointless and was constantly being reported by the news, which I thought was boring a'h (as heckie) because it was basically like "Day one... Yeah, government's still shut down.... Day two... Government's still shut down". It was rightfully reported but it was rightfully reported constantly. All we had to lose here was money and trust of our citizens, right?

This article is about illiteracy. This goes back to what we were talking about in class about people going to poll stations to vote and not have any idea what they are voting for. The decision they make at the pool booth could affect everyone’s lives. I think the government has done enough with the no child left behind law. After high school the government is not to be involved anymore. If a person decides to go college that is up to them even though their choice might have an effect on us in the future.

This article is about the government shut down being finally over. This however, is only a temporary fix. The House and Senate will be at it again in a few months. Although the shut down was pointless and put an incredible amount of people out of work over something that was already signed into law and was happening either way was ridiculous. The House put millions of people out of work. It is a good thing that it is over for now and people can get back to work today.

    1. I think that certain politicians are being completely childish and irresponsible about Obamacare. This issue, as you have said, was already passed IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. There is no need to put people out of work, AND Congress got paid while the government was shut down, and when the issue was brought to their attention, they claimed that they needed their money. This is just going to happen again in January and February, I would bet Mrs. Frase's paycheck on it. I think that REpublicans need to grow up, and Democrats need to have a little more backbone to tell them to STHU.

This article is about a stenographer that snapped on the House floor. She grabbed the mic and went on a rant about the House not being able to work if it is divided and about serving God. People who know her and worked with her said that she was a perfectly nice and normal person, well respected. I would too if I was around a bunch of old people arguing over something so pointless and something they couldn't even possible begin to stop. She was escorted out by the Sergent-at-Arms. The stenographer was transported to a hospital for evaluation. This just goes to show that anyone can snap after being around something so annyoing, like our school playing Justin Bieber in the hallways.

    1. I was reading this and i completely agree that anyone can snap. When people think of government, you can never really imagine people like this snapping like this, but this snap was actually well needed. I'm sure that this women actually helped in a way because maybe the other officials will realize that the arguing is making way more people angrier than they think.

    2. I agree as well. Everyone snaps when they reach a certain point. She snapped because the government couldn't get their act together and it infuriated her. I hope this helps officials realize that they need to get their act together and open the government back up. It's sad that they escorted her out.

    3. I agree with emily and jason that anyone can snap, but you should also be able to controll your self. If u cant work and do ur job, then you shouldnt be doing what your doing. I would be appauled if i was in the crowd. If i can hold my tongue so can other people. It makes you look bad by interupting and ranting about government things that you peraonallg cant controll.

    4. I know that whenever I get into political discussion, or even if I am just listening to one and I am not even part of the discussion, I go bat poop crazy mad if they start talking about a bunch of crap that isn't true. I completely support her snapping and I think that it was completely and utterly stupid that they took her to the hospital. I think that people need to snap and put stupid people in their place.

This article is on Obama's speech he made when the government was reopened. During this speech, the article says that he did not smile and was blaming the shutdown on the republicans. This is starting to look like a long 3 years for Obama. From this, he is not really receiving trust from other government officials, and like we talked about in class, the trust in government and government officials. Because of the shutdown, the people will probably lose their trust for the government, even though the government was reopened, they would still have the memory of the shutdown and what it did.

    1. This article also caught my eye. If you are to watch the video I posted for my article you would see that the Republicans just so seemed to have a part in why the government shutdown happened. Trust however is a part of our great ole American culture. With trust in our government in a slow and steady downfall our government having to be shutdown doesn't help our trust in it. However most of the time Americans blame the President for anything that happens even if the main cause may be in Congress. As for Obama's next three years they don't look good. We have the same problem since the government is only still temporarily open until January I believe and much more may be coming.

    2. this shut down his just going to be a blaming game for each of the different political parties, when it's both there faults when it comes down to it for not just coming to a coming to a reasonable compromise. They need to get there stuff together, they act as if it's a little playground dispute without really seeing what the consequences this shutdown has caused.

This is an outrage that I didn't know about! This video shows how the Republican majority in the House of Representatives have created a House Resolution that pretty much on its own caused the Government to shut down. House Resolution 368 states “Any motion pursuant to clause 4 of rule XXII relating to House Joint Resolution 59 may be offered only by the Majority Leader or his designee.” which was over turning House Rule 22 clause 4 which states “When the stage of disagreement has been reached on a bill or resolution with House or Senate amendments, a motion to dispose of any amendment shall be privileged.” In simpler terms it set up that only the Republicans could have any say in what could be done in the House dealing with the shut down leaving the Democrats helpless to trying to resolve the problem and possibly stopping the shut down from happening before it even started.

    2. It is amazing how our representatives act sometimes. They all seem to try use any means necessary to grab some little piece of power and use it to force their viewpoints on others. Our democracy is supposed to be about debating issues and reaching agreements that the majority has accepted. It is not supposed to be about finding ways for small groups or individuals to force the rest into following their made-up rules. So even the Speaker, Rep. Boehner, is not able to control his own party and offer solutions to the shut down crisis, although he gets the blame for it.

This article is about when the government reopened. It talks about how Obama says theres going to be no future shut downs. As in January or February. But then when I watched the news tonight, they said that the government is going to shut down on feb. 7, 2014 due to the budget being spent.

    1. This is a really good article Kristina. I think that its almost impossible to predict what will happen in a few months. Anything could change at the last minute and there could or could not be another shit down. We will just have to wait and see what happens in febuary. Now on terms of the debt cieling, we need tk figure out how to get out of debt instead of raising debt ceiling.
