In this article by Scott Walker he is talking about how we need to return authority to the people. He says that it is time to “put up or shut up.” Even though we have a unified government we are still 2 senators short of the majority needed to pass laws which would mean that our Republicans would have to change the minds of 2 Democrats which is easier said than done. Republicans will get a lot of push back from liberals if they are able to return some power to the states because that would mean that the federal government was getting smaller.
This article is about how President Trump has seemed to have lost interest in the appointing process after selecting his cabinet and now is trying to play it off as some kind of plan. This article expresses frustration with the president for not filling all of the slots that he needs to fill and is supposed to fill before the congressional recess in August. If Trump is to “make America great again” then he needs managers.
I don't think there is anything wrong with a small government. If they get too involved in everything we would become like Russia or China, and that isn't good. The states should get power to vote for things like abortion and like they did with legalizing marijuana. In my opinion those aren't important enough to propose to the entire country, maybe just states these issues are relevant in.
This article is about how Trump said were gonna end up with great healthcare for fraction of the price that's gonna start right after he takes office. But, now he see's that healthcare is complicated. The race has begun for republicans to appeal Obamacare and replace it. A representative Frank Pallone of Nj said, "they just want to get it out and go on." He's the leading Democrat on the House energy and Commerce Committee which they rejected a proposal to hold the bill until congress says how much it will cost and how many people it would leave uncovered.
Repealing the healthcare will be very difficult to do. It is easier to make a law than to get rid of a law. It is not a secret that Obamacare is not perfect. Many are frustrated that even people that don't need healthcare have to get it. If you have a large family, the price adds up. IT will be more reasonable for them to change things in the healthcare, hopefully for the better.
I think that removing Obamacare will be a lengthy process, and by the time that everything is removed, we will be back at square one without healthcare. By that time, i don't think that Trump will have enough time left to implement something new, and I don't think his program will be much different either. I feel like there are limits on how different you can make a program
The suspicion that Trump's team had ties to Russia's interference with the election is still a question. There's 10 reasons why there's a suspicion of it. One is how Trump declined repeatedly to ties with Russia. But there's people in Trump's circle who had contacts with Russian officials. And two there's no reason for it. Thirdly there are unexplained communications with a Trump computer serve with a Russian bank. Also intercepts of communications by British and Dutch governments monitoring meeting between people of Trump's team and Kremlin. And many more reasons to have some suspicion.
This article was about Melania Trump settling in as the first lady. She could not come in earlier because she was devoted to her ten year old Barron Trump to finish the year at his Manhattan private school without disruption. The article talked about her history and how she was born in Slovenia and became a model at an early age traveling to Paris and a penthouse in Manhattan. It will be interesting to see how the younger generation will accept her. It is not a secret that she has a huge accent. There was a picture of her reading a story to the kids, and its interesting to see if the kids actually understood what she was saying.
In this article, CNN stated that 13 women were arrested on Wednesday during the Day without Women protest. They were arrested for disorderly conduct. There is no specifics in the article on exactly what they did. I would like to know because it was a nonviolent and peaceful protest. Thankfully, the women were released that same evening, but must show up at court. The court date is unspecified. The strike was to bring attention to how important women are in our lives, as well as protest the discrimination towards them.
There's no specifics, but I'm sure that these women didn't do anything wrong. So many get outraged by protesters but they forget that it's one of the rights we have. But I'm so glad they were released.
http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/28/news/economy/trump-defense-spending/index.html This article on CNN is explaining how much the U.S spends on their defense spending. In 2015, the U.S was spending 36% of all military spending worldwide. That is around 8 countries put together. Now, Trump is trying to increase our defense spending. In order to increase the defense spending, he wants to make cuts in other parts of the federal budget, many of those would be nondefense domestic programs. I do not know if this is a good idea since so many other programs would have cuts, even though they are important as well.
This article is talking about the Stand Your Ground law, a law that allows people to claim self defense when they shoot or attack someone. Under the current law, the person must prove that they reasonably believed that they were in danger. However, a new bill is pushing for prosecutors to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant acted wrongly. The process was elongated, now there will be two trials, one at a hearing one at the actual trial. This will make it a lot easier for people to claim self defense. The author mentions trayvon martin, and how he was shot to death even though he didn't do anything.
This article is about the president of South Korea, Park Geun-Hye, being removed from office because they felt she was overly influenced by one of her female advisors. They say this happened because men make corruption easier to tolerate, and women are quick to be booted for it. South Korea is also being compared to America because of Trump being elected. I do agree that women are treated different in politics, but I don't think South Korea's problems are anything like America's. Trump wasn't voted in to be some kind of unfair treatment towards Hillary, but the impeachment of Park was unfair in my opinion. So to compare these countries doesn't make sense to me.
This article talked about how a man jumped the fence and somehow got in the White House territory for over 15 minutes. He was in the south grounds and was not caught for over 15 minutes. They say that some sensors that were there didn't go off. Its very surprising that in 2017, technology is so high up, and the White House's sensors didn't go off. Its understandable that they could malfunction but they should be checked regularly. In 15 minutes a person could completely destroy the White House or hurt people in there.
