This article is about a couple in Georgia who made threats at a black child’s birthday party. The couple drove by with a group of Confederate-flag wavers and made armed threats against blacks. Jose Torres was sentenced to 20 years and the girl Kayla Norton was sentenced to 15. The court says it is not about waving the Confederate flag, it’s about these people driving around, drinking, harassing and threatening people because of the color of their skin. The group was in large trucks and stopped near the house, then Torres and his group were threatening to kill people at the party with a shotgun in his hand. He was pointing the gun at everyone saying the little ones, meaning the children, can get it too. Torres claimed he had the shotgun because he feared for his friends safety. Somehow one of the people at the party was at court testifying and she said she forgave all of them. I have no idea how this woman was even able to be in the same room with them without going crazy. I think these psychos should get a lot more than what they did. Who needs them in society? If they end up getting out early in 5 years or whatever, which happens a lot so it wouldn’t surprise me, this country will go crazy and I won’t blame them. I feel so horrible for the families and children who had to experience this, and now these children have to go through their life knowing there are still people who treat their race like this, it’s terrifying.
Unfortunately, there is that group in society who still continues to act this way. You see, I just saw the movie "Get Out" this weekend, and now even I am suspect of the white folk.
In this article by Thomas E. Ricks he is talking about immigration. They as in Homeland and the military do raids of places around dawn to catch people going to work. I think that this is cruel, like, yeah they might be here illegally but we don’t know why they left where they came from. A lot of times they work harder for what they want than anyone that was born here because those that were born here often feel entitled. Illegal immigrants don’t have the welfare system and unemployment checks to keep them from sinking, they have to work hard for it. The deportation thing is causing great inconveniences to not only the immigrants but everyone else as well. If they are already here when they are found they should be able to stay on visa until a citizenship is required. Just because there have been a few bad apples doesn’t mean that the whole lot of them is rotten. Trump wants to give these federal agencies more freedom but, how much more free could they get? They already want to break these people and send them back where they came from. BUt, in the end, how different are they really than us? Aren’t we all just people? This reminds Ricks of the Abu Ghraib prison.
You have really good points and i like the way you gave a real solution. i agree with you 100%, what Trump is doing is cruel but some changes are definitely called for. Making America Great again does not mean getting rid of people it means embracing people because thats great.
This article is about how Trump wants to increase military spending by cutting funding to other areas like the State Department and foreign aid. Which could actually cause more damage than benefit. Personally I find this to be pretty stupid because these other agencies are also super important so by cutting their funding it could make us less safe than we already are. Trump should not try to increase the budget but to make sure that the budget is being used wisely, the pentagon and the military already receive quite a bit of money. After 9/11 the military got a virtual blank check does Trump really think that doing the same things will be a good thing for this country? This country that Trump proclaims to love, claims that he is a patriot and he said that he would work hard to protect and better it but, by not thinking this through he might just destroy it.
I disagree. I think our military is more important than foreign aid and other certain programs that the government funds. In my opinion, our military does not get enough support or care it needs, and they really don't get that much money either. Their salaries are terrible, they only make 20 something thousand a year. Obama cut military spending by a lot during his years and Trump wants to restore that. Something I think the military needs is more money for their healthcare. Their hospital care takes forever. Last year, a VA (Veterans Affairs) Care Center in Phoenix had a wait list for up to 115 days for soldiers that needed help. Congress made a 10 billion dollar program, but only had 90 days to set it up and this plan has only made the VA centers wait lists worse. That's a lot, but 90 days, they deserve much more than that. So, I agree with Trump's plan for our military.
This article is about the time ticking to confront the discussion of getting rid of Obamacare. There are 20 million people who aren’t sure what will happen to them in the future because they are insured by Obamacare. Many leaders in the GOP are concerned that Trump does not fully understand the congressional approach to healthcare, and they are in need of his full support in order for their plan to work out. According to CNN, “Republicans plan to replace Obamacare's subsidies with less generous tax credits, hike the amount that insurers can charge older Americans and effectively eliminate Medicaid for low-income adults.” This would leave many people who got coverage with Obamacare without coverage.
This article discusses Trump’s choice to increase military spending by up to 10%. He says that the budget will focus on military, focus, and economic development. He also stated that it will help rebuild the depleted military of the United States at a time that we most need it. Trump’s proposal would bring the U.S closer to wartime spending. Through the proposal, defense spending would boost by about $54bn. Trump will be presenting his budget to Congress in May. His plan is already planned to get backlash from both Democrats and Republicans over domestic programs.
Im not really sure how that would increase our economy. The money that can go into business will decrease all these factories developing eco friendly products will be lessoned because part of that money will go toward our military. Im not really sure why he thinks America's military is weak. Im pretty sure its one of the strongest in the world. But obviously i haven't researched regarding the military strength of this country so i could be wrong.
Trump said. "I am asking everyone watching tonight to seize this moment. Believe in yourselves. Believe in your future. And believe, once more, in America." Many believe that this was the best speech Trump gave. 7 in 10 people watching and listening to his speech gained optimism. Even Democratic news such as CNN gave positive feed back. A big part of the reason why this speech was greater than his others was because he mostly sticked to his script. Many did not like when he said what came to his head at the moment because a lot of the things he said offended people. When you read a pre written script, its been filtered and censored so it doesn't offend any one and doesn't hurt other people's feelings. Of corse Trump's speeches don't really compare to the speeches that Obama gave. Obama was a well spoken person that gave phenomenal speeches.
I agree with this, when he is calm and composed he is a lot easier to listen to than when he just improvises. During his campaigns he was a lot more extreme and brash with his words. However, I feel like the pre written scripts masks how offensive he is, because he's not actually speaking what's on his mind
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/04/opinion/sunday/is-the-pope-the-anti-trump.html?ref=opinion This article is about Trump and the Pope. How they both have upended traditions and they both are the world's most popular populists. However they are in conflict. To understand why look at his appearance at a university in Rome where a student asked him about a Syrian women who he knew well and one of the families he brought back with him on a return flight from his visit in a refugee camp. He helped dozes of them make new lives in Italy. His populism is not for popularity even though his is far more up than other politicians. He once said. "In moment of crisis , discernment doesn’t work." Which was around the time of Trump's inauguration. Discernment means in this case that to detect the good and evil in events. He gave an example of Hitler who was elected by the people and destroyed them. But though they provide a contrast. One is a is a celibate who lives in simplicity, embracing the disabled and the diseased. The other is a thrice-married germophobe who lived in a gold tower and mocks the feeble. But yet they have more in common than some might admit.
I agree with Rachael! I mean Melania does have some bad background, like copying Michelle's speech, but honestly who are we to say what she believes. If she believes that woman should have higher positions in society then let her believe it. Even if it is not something she is strongly opinionated on she can still say what she wants. Why do we, Americans, want to hate her so bad? Like I understand that there are reasons we should, but she is our first lady for crying out loud we should want for her to have the same beliefs as us, and we should want the best for her! I honestly do not believe we should be trashing her so much this is unbelievable.
By the way this is Kailah, I couldn't sign in from my account on the laptop I am using!
After reading this I wasn't really shocked. I mean some of his supporters still love him but not all of them. For example, Zeke personally changed his mind about Trump because now that he is acting on his policies they seem different than before, but that being said Trump obviously carried out his plans, so all of his supporters are happy about that! This was an interesting article!
I almost didn't do this article because i figured it could be offensive to some because of the subject. But i am exercising my 1st amendment so i did do this article. In John Blake's "Decoding Jesus: Separating man from myth", he discusses religion and its origin. He talks about how there is historic proof that that god is just a jewish creation based off of pagan gods. If he has scientific and historical proof who is to say he's not wrong. This just get's you to look at both side of the tracks which i think is the best.
Oh sweet, a fight. This article talks about how trump supporters all over the country have been rallying for president trump on this Saturday. Although, just as supporters have been rallying, counter-supporters have been gathering as well; and this has been causing quite in uproar. First of all, the trump supporter groups have only gotten to around 400 people max, so it is not like there is this giant group of thousands going around terrorizing the cities. Second, The inti-Trump group knows these people are rallying, so why are they getting together too? Why do people always want to start stuff. I think its cool that they all fought though, I wonder who won.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.businessinsider.com/photo-hillary-clinton-pence-private-email-account-2017-3 This article is about a picture Hillary Clinton posted showing her reading a newspaper with the headline "Pence uses personal email in office." It's ironic because the whole scandal involving Clinton's email could be considered as the reason as to why she didn't win the presidency, but Pence uses his personal email as well and faces no kind of punishment or criticism. This shows double standards still exist. Hillary was slandered and demonized for something a man does months later and gets away with. It's also ironic because Trump wanted Hillary immediately locked up for being the criminal she is but he just loves his vice president. It's likely Hillary isn't our President because of her email use but now our VICE president is being praised by the Republican party for something they attacked Clinton for. Crazy how society works.
In this article, the author calls for a halt on Trump's presidency for further investigation on Russian involvement in the election. He wants to make sure that there wasn't any Russian involvement in Trump's campaign and now administration. He says that calling for a stop to the presidency isn't an extreme action by any means, because it could possibly unveil an assault on democracy. America must be reassured that the president is legitimate before he is able to make any decisions. I think that there is a lot of bias in this article. If Russian involvement was as significant as this author believes, then I feel like there would already be a bunch of outrage and tons of investigation being done
