In this article they are trying to say that people are right Trump doesn't really have a clear plan for dealing with ISIS. He has not yet revealed his "foolproof" plan. Trump thinks that he knows so much about ISIS when in fact he does not. Trump is trying to sound educated about things that he knows nothing about. I think that Trump should talk to the military generals on how to deal with ISIS, because they would know best.
Trump in his debates sounded very knowledgable about ISIS. Many people believed that he knew everything about it and could destroy it. He never stated his plan because it would be silly. You never want to reveal the tactic you want to use against your opponent. Hopefully he will come up with some plan. Obviously right now he's worrying about Obamacare, hopefully we will see results in the reduction of ISIS.
In this article Alan K. Simpson is talking about Trump and his views on gay rights. Simpson points out how Trump said that he supported the L.G.B.T. community but now is not so quick to show his support. Simpson is telling Trump that if he is not going to trust the polls then he should trust the people. the people are saying loud and clear that they don't agree with the way that they think Trump is thinking.
I don't think Trump is purposely leaving out the LGBT community. There are bigger problems that he has to deal with, and also there isn't much to focus on with them right now, besides the bathroom bill. He doesn't support the bill, but there is a much bigger picture to that issue. Just because it isn't his main focus doesn't mean he doesn't care
This article is about a woman sharing her abortion story, specifically to Gorsuch, while his confirmation hearing is in process. She talks about how women get abortions for many reasons and they should have that choice because it is their life being affected. She also says it is hard for her to tell her story because people have made women who have got abortions feels ashamed or embarrassed. She wants Gorsuch to take into consideration these women's lives and the freedom they have to make that choice. My opinion is that abortion should stay the way it is. It is a woman's choice and it affects nobody else but the mother. Government should not get into personal lives like that. If they were to change it, at least make it so women can get one if them or the baby are in danger, or they were raped or a case like that.
(Reply to Lillian Moore) I agree that it is a woman's choice, and that the subject should have been left alone a while ago. I do not think people realize how difficult it is for a woman to make the decision to have an abortion, and that it is their own body they are doing it to. It is their own choice and women that are willing to speak up about their stories to protect other women's rights are very brave.
This article is about the terrorist attack that took place in London. A man ran over pedestrians on a bridge as well as attacking with a knife. The attack was on Westminster bridge and left three people dead. A fundraiser named "muslims united for London" raised $25,000 within two days for the attack victims. The amount made was twice as much as their goal. I have a lot of respect for everyone who donated to reach the goal as well as the man who started the fundraiser.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/22/politics/essential-health-benefits-obamacare-freedom-caucus/index.html This article was about how the house GOP leaders have agreed to change an Obamacare provision that guarantees all health insurers cover services such as maternity, mental health and prescription drugs. People are concerned that they will not have enough votes for this to be active. Trump wanted to repeal Obamacare in the beginning, but now realized how difficult it is to actually repeal it. They change or add things to Obamacare and that will be reasonable to make it law.
My reply isn't necessarily about Obamacare but it is about what I just realized of Donald Trump. He wanted to repeal Obamacare so bad and he just understood how hard it would be to do so, and that being said I feel like Trump doesn't realize a lot of things to do with being president. Not to bash him at all because I am over the whole "he's not my president" thing, but am genuinely concerned about that. Think about all of the other things that he isn't realizing.
This was by far my favorite article that I've read this year. In this op-ed a man explains why he is so proud to be an American. It sounds a lot different than what it is, he isn't proud to be an American because of reasons like the first amendment or the freedom we have in general, but the fact that he can have his own opinion. He talks about how scared he was to break the law when he was an immigrant even though he is a lot more privelaged than a lot of other immigrants. It upsets me that this is how immigrants think and that liberal Democracy has been threatened for such a long time.
It's so sad to see that people in this country have to fear for their lives and are constantly wondering if they're going to get torn away from their families. It's also sad to see that there's been people who have been punished for their basic rights. This country is supposed to be "the land of the free" yet when someone wants their voice to be heard by protesting, which is completely fine according to the first amendment, it seems to me that these people get some sort of punishment.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/03/23/politics/trump-time-interview-wiretaps-falsehoods/index.html "I'm the president and you're not." I'm pretty sure Trump isn't the only president who's thought this way. Many think that just because you're the president, you're automatically the most powerful person in the world. Being president doesn't mean that you're always going to be right either. But many, including Trump, believe that. As we've learned in class, the president's powers are very limited and most of them require Congress's approval.
Honestly the President doesn't have that much power but they sure think they do. They also have to understand that it is not a dictatorship and they are handling lives of millions of people. They cant make decisions that will benefit them or there people but decisions that will better the country as a whole.
This article by Jen Psaki talks about trump's attempts to get rid of obamacare and put in a healthcare system of his own. She talks about whether or not their efforts are to make healthcare more affordable and easier to access or if they are just trying to get a win for the republicans. The reason that the senate is delaying the voting is because they know that changing the obamacare will affect everyone greatly and not in a good way. So will they vote the right way for them but the wrong way for this country or will they make the decision to better America.
I agree with you its really hard to change a already existing law. I also feel that Gorsuch is not going to state his views on it because there is no put its already a law and it is really hard to change a law. He is most likely going to spend his time on things he has the power to change not this.
All through out his campaign Trump said he was going to stop Obamacare, that was one of his big promises he gave to his supporters. But last week proved that he was just talking and he can't do anything. Trumps plan to stop Obamacare failed, since its already a law its hard to take it back or change it. Changing a law takes time and a lot of hard work and complex steps. So i believe that Trump isn't really going to do the things he promised its all going to back fire on him.
