This article is talking about Ted Cruz and how they do not necessarily love him as a candidate, but they like him better than Donald Trump. They talk about how Cruz tried to shut down the government over Obamacare and how it was a disaster, but it is now being pushed to the side and forgotten because the idea of Trump as President is worse. I think we can all agree that it would be scary thinking of Donald Trump as our president, right?
I agree Brittney, Trump as president is scary. I feel that this year will be the biggest voting year if trump gets on the ballot because it will bring in people who don't normally vote. These people are either going to vote for Trump or against Trump. I feel that more people will vote for the democratic candidate even if they don't like them because they are not as bad as Trump. All in all, if the GOP puts trump on the general election they are screwing their chances of getting the White House.
I agree with you Curtiss. I think in this years presidential election it will turn into voting for the lesser of two evils. I also definitely believe that there are more people afraid of having Trump as a president than there are people that support him or hate the democratic candidate. Right now it's the extremists and political elites that are voting which is why Trump is winning. In the general election the people who didn't bother to go to the primary are going to vote and hopefully wipe Trump off the board.
I also agree, it is scary thinking that he might be our president or even has a chance of becoming one. Though, whats kind of sad is because of this, we have to anything besides him, even if it a bad option. Lesser of two evils, like what Raquel said. I feel like it should not be like that at all, it just seems so unfair for us to have little choice in these things.
This article is about the water crisis in Flint, stating that it is not the only city failing to maintain one of the government's responsibilities. It talks about how Democrats and Republicans both can argue all they want about politics, but when it comes to this water problem and the safety of the people they can agree that it needs to be taken care of. I completely agree, it is alright to have different opinions on politics but when it comes to the safety of the people that should be no debate.
I agree with this completely. The government should put aside they're political debates long enough to protect the people from more dangerous problems and keep them safe no matter what.
This Article tells us that Corey Lewandowski will not be prosecuted on battery charges after the pulled back Michelle Breitbart while asking Trump some questions. Lewandowski is the campaign manager for Donald Trump. This is great news for the Trump campaign because, if he was prosecuted it could show how Trump's workers truly act. Trumps voters could take this as foreshadowing how Trump's WHO could be in the White House and it could decrease his voters. Yay!?!?
This article is about the racism not only in Chicago police departments but also court system. You can definitely tell the author of the article was angry and surprised at the racism he heard in the courts office he worked in. His article is very convincing and at first I thought we only get one side of the story in regards to the media. Headlines about police brutality are definitely biased but these days I'm convinced of fabricated police reports and testimonies. I've heard to many accounts of planting evidence and heard too many stories of cops shooting unarmed people. The stories he told of the way judges referred to people of color and prominently ethnic neighborhoods was appalling. The instance in which he brought up the lawyer who was taken off a case because he pointed out the inconsistencies in a police officers testimony was scary as well. It really shows how much bias is in the court system
I definitely see what you're saying here Raquel. There have been more and more reports of racial inequality in both police departments and court systems. Recently, there have been many stories on the news about police attacking unarmed people or saying they in danger when they really weren't. People like Trayvon Martin who lost their lives for no reason have been in the news more and more recently and it's very sad.
Cases with police shooting unarmed people are really difficult to deal with. Maybe the officer really feared their life and reacted quickly, or maybe they just wanted to shoot them. It's all a very he said, she said basis and sometimes there's no way to know which is the truth. I honestly believe that sometimes the officer did it intentionally, and sometimes the victim is lying and it’s a mix of both because there are bad people everywhere, cops and other people.
I agree with you Raquel. I think there has been bias in the court system for decades and there will most likely be bias in the court system for decades more. Police brutality is a very real thing and it seems that the amount of corrupt policemen is increasing or we are now able to hear about it more since we have things like social media. Also, it would be pretty frustrating knowing what's going on but not being able to do anything about it.
This article is about the recent celebration marking the 42nd birthday of The American Sniper Chris Kyle. For anyone who has seen the film American Sniper , you would know he was not only just a soldier, but a hero and the deadliest sniper in U.S military history. A man who served his country well and with honor, to only be killed on home soil by a fellow veteran he tried to help. His wife Taya went to facebook to celebrate her late husbands birthday. His death affected an entire nation but most importantly his wife and two children. It absolutely sickens me how a man with so much respect and honor goes out of his way to help a fellow veteran, to only be shot mercilessly six times, Like how can you do that to someone and take him away from his family? We as Americans should remember Chris Kyle not only as a soldier, but a man who loved his country and was proud to be an American.
In reply to Brittney on Ted Cruz and Trump. I believe regardless this presidential election is of who the people hate least. Ted Cruz is often looked at as a joke, where Trump is fascist. The democrats have a complete party polarization compared to the republican party this election.
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/15/opinion/five-big-questions-after-a-high-stakes-democratic-debate.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 Ever since the beginning of the election, Bernie has tried to stay away from slandering Clinton, even when Clinton slandered him. But at the debate last night Sanders fought back, painting Hillary as a wall street pawn. Hillary's super PAC's have been most beneficial monetary wise and that is what the article points out. This article points out that Sanders sounds exhausted and Clinton continues to leave questions unanswered. Clinton tends to sway whatever way that most politics are going and she is not really able to form an opinion on her own.
I can definitely agree with that sentiment Alexis. Bernie has long spoken of the corruption that lies within wall street and the politicians working within it as a result of big money. Hillary, although not wanting to admit it, is incredibly influenced by big money, it's impossible not to be. SHe says that she is going to fight wall street despite the fact that wall street is funding her campaign. Why would large banks like Goldman Sachs donate money to her campaign if she supposedly wants to regulate them? It's because they know it's just for show. They know that behind closed doors, she is at their beck and call, and will do whatever is asked of her, despite everything she says to the masses.
Now before I start talking about this I want to say I have not fully watched the debate but mostly highlights from it. Ok, well, this was a very interesting debate over all from the things I've seen. In my view it seemed Sanders was constantly fact checking Clinton in even her own polices, which is kind of crazy. Also based on the audience's reaction, it seemed from booing Sanders to chanting his name later on, it is quite impressive on Sanders part. Even pointing out her dodging questions left and right. Though, I think I may be biased towards Sanders in this debate because he seemed like the underdog, someone that was most likely going to fail or is because of the resources Clinton has.
This article is about Sarah Palin mocking Bill Nye over climate change. Saying that Bill is as much as a scientist as she is. Going as far as calling him a kids shows actor, more than a scientist. Palin saying that parents should teach their kids to question people like Bill Nye.
This article is about a zoo attack that happened in palm beach zoo. The zoo keeper was Stacey Konwisera 38 old woman, who lead tiger keepers at the zoo and was killed by a 13-year-old male Malayan tiger. Zoo officials said "it didn't appear Konwiser did anything out of the norm as she worked in the enclosure, known as the tiger night house. The tiger was off-exhibit at the time and no guests could see what happened, Carter said. The tiger was never on the loose, contrary to early reports on social media".
If I may point out another inconsistency with the ideology of Hillary Clinton, i would like to direct some attention to the fight for a 15 dollar minimum wage. Recently in New York, where a key primary will soon take place, she has praised new York's new minimum wage law, calling it "a model for the nation". This wouldn't be surprising if one did not know her past views. In the past she advocated for a 12 dollar minimum wage, feeling that 15 was too ambitious and wasn't realistic, now with more and more states adopting a 15 dollar minimum wage, it's safe to say she was proven wrong, and she knows it.
If she was proven wrong, and she knows it, then I see no reason why Hillary Clinton can't change her views. I don't think that anyone in the world can say that they have never changed their opinion on something. I understand that Clinton has "flip-flopped" on a lot of issues or just went with the public's opinion, but isn't that what we want? A president that follows the opinion of the people?
I honestly think that 15 dollars is too much for minimum wage. By increasing it, the prices of many goods will go up so the employers make the same amount of money that they originally made. There was also that article we had to read for the essay thing on Wednesday that said many people could be laid off in order for employers to still make money and many small businesses actually suffer from the increase.
I agree with you, Ethan. The raise would hurt more people than it would help and for the most part the people who want the raise want it for themselves and not because they need it which in that case they should work for it.
I agree with you. Minimum wage jobs are starter jobs that require no skill. To get paid more people need to put more effort in. it's not hard to flip a burger, and you don't even need to go to college to get more qualifications to get a better job
We all ask ourselves why people want Donald Trump to be our president. Well this article has everything you need to know about it. The main reason is that they believe that career politicians make too many failures, that someone who is real and has gone through the troubles that we have would make a better president. Many believe that Trump is their man in accomplishing this. Sadly, they are mistaken. Trump would not be a good president because he does not have the experience. The experience is what makes most politicians worth it. They know how the process works and get things passed that they know we need. Trumps supporters will have a very rude awakening if he does become president.
I feel like inexperience is a major problem . People who complain also about career politician are also the ones that are out of touch with US politics. The problem is not with career politicians the problem is how once power politicians worry are about staying in power than keeping their promises
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/15/opinion/on-zika-congress-is-failing-to-do-its-job.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 It's classic when people say that the government isn't moving fast enough. In this case, the author is pointing fingers directly at Congress for being to slow to approve $1.8 billion for Zika research. When they did transfer $600 million in funding from Ebola to Zika, this author says it's not enough. The say that money is also being deprived from malaria and tuberculosis. These are classified as very rare and rare diseases respectively. These have nothing to do with the issue of Zika. In this quote, "Government researchers and pharmaceutical companies are working on a Zika vaccine. Scientists are also perfecting mosquitoes genetically modified to produce offspring that die young, but that approach requires more testing," the author doesn't say that these are needed, they say that these programs are on-going. What they do claim we need money for, though, is programs to teach people to protect themselves from mosquitoes and to practice safe-sex. (Unsafe sex is another way to spread Zika.) To me, these two things seem like common knowledge but I guess we need $1.8 billion to help people figure that out.
This article talks about the different candidates opinions towards minimum wage. Of course Bernie supports $15 an hour and union rights. Clinton however supports $12 an hour. I work a minimum wage job. I make $8.10 an hour. My job isn't hard, anyone can do it. Minimum wage jobs are designed for teenagers. However, I work with more 30+ year olds than I do teenagers. And I know our paychecks aren't enough to live off of. But our job doesn't require any skill. Everyone has the opportunity to go to college, or at least go take a class and get certified in something or just get some experience. Minimum wage workers don't deserve a raise because flipping a burger isn't worth $15 an hour. There are still jobs out there one can find that you don't need to go to college for and still pay more than minimum wage on. I don't think its fair to people who have worked hard to make their own money get to see someone who didn't work hard get a raise. It would ultimately increase inflation, and cost millions of low income American's their jobs.
I disagree with Pam. Minimum wage jobs are not designed specifically for teenagers. For some people, minimum wage jobs are the only type of incomes that are available. Not everyone is entitled to a solid education from college. I completely disagree with you when you say EVERYONE has the opportunity to go to college. Some people don't have the transportation or money to get to and from college. We need an increase in the minimum wage to help narrow the gap between socioeconomic classes. While the jobs might be easy, they still should provide enough money to allow people to live a life that isn't uncomfortable or impossible to maintain.
This articles asks whether or not Donald Trump is sabotaging himself. It's obvious that he has a lot of support throughout the nation, but it seems as though people are starting to get a bit sick of it. He LOVES playing the victim card. Whenever something doesn't go his way, he claims that the system is rigged. We recently saw this with his criticism of super delegates. Trump is too much of a baby to be president. If he were elected, he would most likely make rash, impulsive decisions that would have extreme consequences for the nation. His campaign is becoming less and less successful, and at this point it's possible for him to NOT get the nomination.
This article is all about a man's reasoning for supporting Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential campaign. The writer, Jeff Merkley, is the first member of the Senate to say he supports Sanders. Merkley's reasoning for supporting Sanders is that he believes that Sanders is addressing the most important in bold ways. Merkley ends his article with, "Bernie Sanders stands for that America, and so I stand with Bernie Sanders for president."
This articles talks about America's tactics to beat ISIS. It talks about how America is the U.S is trying to destroy ground communications and how the U.S. is helping Turkey fight against ISIS. It also says that America is also on the offensive against ISIS. In the article it says that the U.S. is using "the Prowler" to win the war with ISIS with communication dominance and that using "the Prowler" will disable ground communications of ISIS and protect allies in the air. It also talks about how the military is using cyber bombs to overload ISIS network so they can't use it or function. I believe that the military is doing a great job to ensure that they win the war against ISIS and that they are planning it in the most strategic and safest way possible.
In this article, the author believes that Donald Trump would make a good president because of his experience with business and facing “tough, real-life situations.” He believes that Trump could encourage businesses to stay in the United States since many of them are moving to other countries and many people are losing jobs. The author says that it will be easier for people to believe in Trump since he is a very outspoken person and can relate to what many people want. I'm going to have to disagree with this author. Just because Donald Trump specializes in business doesn't mean he would make a good president.
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/14/opinion/outrageous-sentences-for-marijuana.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&_r=0 This is another article showing that mandatory sentencing is outdated and cruel. This is another case where the law overly punishes an individual for possession of drugs. A man in Alabama was sentenced to life in prison without parole for being in possession of 2.2 pounds of pot even though it was for medicinal use. I for one always have thought mandatory minimums are wrong. Life is never as black and white as it seems. Plus we as a nation have an outrageous amount of inmates in jail because of possession crimes. It is time to finally stop this so called war on crimes and actually address the problem at hand.
This article discusses the lack of participation from leaders of the GOP in endorsing a candidate in the primary election for the party's nominee. There are many contributing factors to the unwillingness many Republican governors and congressmen have to endorsing one candidate. Chief among them is how bad the candidates seem to be to tie your ship to. Trump is the front runner, but at this point a contested convention looks like it has a high probability of happening, and Trump has a very low probability of winning that in Cleveland. Trump is also extremely unpopular and polarizing. Endorsing him would alienate almost all of their fellow party members and the majority of their constituents who may be choosing to vote against them in November if they do. Ted Cruz is also unpopular with his workmates in Washington, but he seems like the best bet to win the nomination at this point, but most are still unwilling to side with him. Kasich is probably the closest to many of the ideologies of the general public and the Republican elite, but he looks like an extreme longshot to win the nomination, and backing him could alienate someone from the eventual candidate.
This article is about tax day as we know it, and some reasons why and how it should possible be eliminated. Many politicians are trying to simplify tax code and how taxes are done, with the extremely different Ted Cruz and Elizabeth Warren being the examples used in this article. Cruz is suggesting a simple 10% flat tax that would eliminate almost any extreme calculations that are necessary in taxes. The process is extremely and unnecessarily complicated, and should be simplified to help those that may be losing out on money because they cannot afford someone else to do their taxes for them, or can't do them well themselves. Lobbying efforts from companies like Intuit have made efforts to keep tax code as complicated as possible as not to impede on their demand in the Spring.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/11/opinions/women-equal-pay-day-carter/index.html This article is about how there's still a gap between how much men and women are getting paid. Then, it says this issue is better in places where there are more women employed, so we should fix the problem by making sure a certain percentage of the employees are female. I don't think that's how we should fix the problem at all. Women should get paid fairly no matter how many are employed. Also, people should be chosen for their job based on their requirements, not their gender.

ReplyDeleteThis articles asks whether or not Donald Trump is sabotaging himself.

ReplyDeleteThis article is all about a man's reasoning for supporting Bernie Sanders in the 2016 presidential campaign.

ReplyDeleteThis articles talks about America's tactics to beat ISIS. I believe that the military is doing a great job to ensure that they win the war against ISIS and that they are planning it in the most strategic and safest way possible.
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/04/16/opinion/the-case-for-donald-trump.html
ReplyDeleteIn this article, the author believes that Donald Trump would make a good president because of his experience with business and facing “tough, real-life situations.” He believes that Trump could encourage businesses to stay in the United States since many of them are moving to other countries and many people are losing jobs. The author says that it will be easier for people to believe in Trump since he is a very outspoken person and can relate to what many people want. I'm going to have to disagree with this author. Just because Donald Trump specializes in business doesn't mean he would make a good president.

ReplyDeleteThis is another article showing that mandatory sentencing is outdated and cruel. It is time to finally stop this so called war on crimes and actually address the problem at hand.
http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/a-huge-number-of-gop-leaders-arent-endorsing-this-year/
ReplyDeleteThis article discusses the lack of participation from leaders of the GOP in endorsing a candidate in the primary election for the party's nominee. Kasich is probably the closest to many of the ideologies of the general public and the Republican elite, but he looks like an extreme longshot to win the nomination, and backing him could alienate someone from the eventual candidate.
http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/ban-tax-day-as-we-know-it/
ReplyDeleteThis article is about tax day as we know it, and some reasons why and how it should possible be eliminated. Lobbying efforts from companies like Intuit have made efforts to keep tax code as complicated as possible as not to impede on their demand in the Spring.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/11/opinions/women-equal-pay-day-carter/index.html
ReplyDeleteThis article is about how there's still a gap between how much men and women are getting paid.
