I believe that climate change has definitely become a major problem not just in the United States, but for the whole world. Weather has recently been changing, and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine has created a new way to which weather events can be linked to climate change. I think that this will help people to realize that climate change is a real thing and is seriously impacting all of us across the globe.

    1. I agree with you Taylor, not to mention the fact about pollution. Across the world the United States is the leader in pollution, meaning air, water, or whatever you can think of. I feel that climate change is directly associated to the fact about our pollution. I think that this will help the climate change as well as making our environment more safe as well.

    2. With the level of engineering and sciences we have, you would think we could solve the problem of climate change, not just realize that its a real thing. There is real data showing how our climate is changing for the worst and it is available to everyone via internet. What we need to do now is make a machine to suck out all the pollution in the air or something similar to that extent. It could be the new space race, see which country can solve the climate change problem first.

    3. Yea, I do agree that climate change is a pretty major thing. I mean we LIVE here, it's the only earth in the universe and we are slowly sucking it dry and killing it. We have incredible amount of research and machines that can help with climate change too, but it seems like everyone just does not want to worry about it. Heck, we even have research on how to terraform other planets and we haven't stopped our own negative terraforming on this planet. As time goes on though, technology will get better, it will become more efficient and cheaper. I'm sure we can solve the problem, just that I hope we haven't made permanent mistakes that will haunt us.

I think that requiring GMO labels is a great idea. People have a right to know what is in the food they are buying and eating. The point of labeling foods with GMO labels isn't to scare people from eating genetically modified foods, as there is nothing proven to be wrong with eating them, but it is more to inform consumers of what they are purchasing.

I can'y believe I'm going to say this, but I actually agree with Donald Trump. In our society ISIS is a huge problem. And we need to destroy them as fast as possible. The only way to do so I believe is to put all we have on the ground in the Middle East. Trump says that we need up to 30,000 troops over seas fighting ISIS, which I think might be just enough to make this terrible organization be defeated.

    1. I completely agree Trump has the right idea on trying to get rid of ISIS as any means possible even if that means having our own troops overseas fighting them. This organization grows everyday and wont stop until all the ISIS members are all killed.

      Delete
    2. But the problem is how would we be able to sort the ISIS members from the innocent citizens? Plus, ISIS is an organization and occupy dozens if not more countries around the world. I think with this new era of terrorism, we're going to have to come up with a new way to combat it. Obviously the old ways aren't working any longer. I think sending troops over seas in the Middle East would be as big as a waste of time, resources, and lives as the Vietnam war was for America.

    3. It's very shocking but Trump actually does have a lot of good ideas. Perhaps "a lot" is a stretch but he has at least a few. For example, Trump's website says that he believes families that make under $50,000 will not owe any income tax. He actually wants to do something nice to save the lower to middle class. However, all he does is criticize and pester people. This makes him widely hated and his policy hardly gets considered.

This article is about the biggest ISIS stronghold being in Iraq. It does not surprise me that it would be Iraq housing the most dangerous terrorist group in the world. Iraq has history of evil being within the roots of it's own country. And where did that lead to ? War, a tyrant being deposed of, the rise of insurgents and now a government just as corrupt, controlling and no control over what is going on. This makes me think that Iraq has and always will be our enemy. We cannot trust them, because once we turn our backs they strike. We know this so the question is what do we do? Do we standby and let them grow stronger, or do we go in there and take them down?

    ReplyDelete

    1. i mean its pretty obvious that their biggest stronghold would be in Iraq when ISIS literally stands for The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. That's where they are based out of. And the blame shouldn't be put on Iraq as a whole their people are being murdered every day by ISIS militants, and the there are Muslim's in Iraq that aren't jihadist. To wipe out an entire country because one groups evil is not only unwise its genocide.

  5. In reply to Curtiss:
I believe that Trump may have some good "ideas" but it just seems irrational to carry it out. It would cause more problems through Trump's ideas. Trump seems to be making generalizations and just wants to send troops to the middle east.

The Huffington Post reported:“Fox News, CNN and MSNBC all declined to carry Sanders’ speech, instead offering punditry about the evening, with the chyrons promising, ‘AWAITING TRUMP’ and ‘STANDING BY FOR TRUMP.’” This article is about how Sanders is not getting any new coverage. Fox and other news stations seems to be giving up on Sander's because they feel that they do not wanna cover him.

  7. In reply to Curtiss--I definitely agree with you when you say that it's ridiculous that we actually agree with Donald Trump. But, ISIS is one of the many big problems/fears we have in the US right now. They need to be defeated once and for all. This is one of the only things we can relate to with Trump because it is a universal problem.

This article is about how the LAPD has sweeped away the belongings to tons of homeless people on the streets, stating that they are no longer going to put up with it. They have pledged to set aside billions, if possible, to set up buildings for the homeless and in need. I feel like this is a good plan, so many people talk bad about homeless people who beg for money (some use it for drugs, yes I know) but some are actually in need of it. Instead of avoiding the problem and being bitter about it, we should fix the problem once and for all.

    1. I Feel this only works if they actually do help with the homeless. I really hope this ends up working because if not a lot of people just lost their homes. In the news there are always politicians promoting their plan to help the homeless but they give up once the media stop covering them.

This is a fun little interactive game that tells of just some of the dumb things Donald Trump has said. While it is not a traditional editorial, I think that it summarizes him very well with recent public comments he and his supporters have made regarding him. It goes from Ben Carson supporting him to the ISIS video hoax he tweeted about. I encourage you to play it to see if you know Trump as well as you think you do. I got a 10/11.

i think this is very nice of them but from what iv seen the marjortiy of people that are homeless choose to take that path with drugs or messing up in life. We all have decisons to make and most of us make the right ones the ones that dont thats kind of what they get in most cases but if anyones in need they should be helped so i like the idea why not were all american right.

The author suggests that the support for a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants will haunt the future Democratic nominee. This makes sense. The Republican party has gained a lot of support for their tough stance on immigration. However, the Latino electorate’s power is still unclear. This could help the Democrats gain a powerful addition to their coalition. The growing Latino population could devastate the Republicans in elections given that the Right has alienated immigrants.

The Republicans are setting a terrible precedent by not even considering a nominee from President Obama, especially a nominee who is so moderate and experienced. The Republicans are worried about Obama changing the tide of the court, but that is his right, granted to him by the Constitution. Even if this happened under Bush, I would still feel this way. It’s how the chips fell. President Obama isn’t even technically a lame duck since no one has become president-elect. Also, I can’t believe the people who confirmed justice Clarence Thomas are denying Garland even a hearing.

I’ve been wondering for a while if the violence at Trump’s rallies were caused by the protestors, or Trump supporters’ reactions to the protests. This article points blame at Trump and his supporters for the violence. Donald Trump has said things like "I'd like to punch him in the face, I tell ya." about protesters that have probably lead to his supporters acting on his behalf and resorting to violence. Trump’s followers are willing to follow him so much, that even he admits that they would still support him if he murdered someone, so it’s no surprise that they’re causing violence. Trump is teaching violence through his speeches and it’s spreading to his supporters and will only keep getting worse.

This article is about cars that can drive themselves. Their research shows that they can still get in crashes, but significantly less often than when the car is driven by a human. I don’t think it’s possible to avoid all crashes, because the human in the car said he would’ve made the mistake that the car did. The only reason it got in a crash is because it had the right away and the other car didn’t yield. Driving is all about communication with other drivers, and being able to predict what they’re going to do. It’s difficult for a computer to be able to tell these things, but it was still able to predict better than most humans. There’s no way to avoid all crashes, but I think self driving cars with calm thinking that don’t get angry or defensive could greatly increase the safety on roads.

In this article it tells about president Obama putting in his nomination for Judge Garland but the republicans trying to go against it at all costs. I don't really understand why they would not approve of the judge, he seems to be fully qualified and even more then prepared for this position. I understand they simply just want to go against a democrats, but the lenghts in which they don't even consider it? That completely silly of them to do that. I don't think they even know the judge themselves, they just know Obama is hoping to put him there and that's it. Adding more judges, especially quality judges, is a very good thing for everyone and the fact they are just doing this to keep control really shows how bad democrats vs republicans can get.

This article is about women's role in the Easter uprising of 1916. It goes to explain how there's is a theme of women's role in Ireland's history being removed. I think that this is a common thing throughout history as women aren't usually thought of as war heroes at least until recent history. They go in to explain the initiative of a groups of historians that are trying to uncover the real history of women in Ireland. I think this is an important thing as all heroes need to be represented and documented which usually doesn't happen a lot as only a few main people get all the fame when there's always a lot more people that show examples of bravery and never get memorialized in history.

I think this is the coolest thing every. I mean how many of us wanted to be ninjas when we were kids, but its to bad its only staged. Japan posted Ninja wanted post for a recruitment campaign that is in fact a part of a tourism push for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Local governor Shigeaki Omura has appeared online in full ninja costume as part of the bid. We haven't heard if the hiring process involves mortal combat or just looking really, really good in black. But Aichi prefecture wants to hear from anyone aged between 18 and 30 and available to start training.

This article is about how President Barack Obama intends to nominate the first female combatant commander in the military's history, Secretary of Defense Ash Carter said Friday.Carter announced that he had recommended Air Force Gen. Lori Robinson to be appointed to lead U.S. Northern Command while speaking at a breakfast hosted by Politico. In my opinion this promotion is long over do. Woman's equality in the military has been moving in the right direction , but with this it opens a whole new door for woman. Now anyone who has the qualification can get the right job or role.

A student of the university of California stabbed four students before police killed him. Now this is a major occurrence and should never have happened but it was under the influence of ISIS propaganda. Earlier on that day the criminal watched videos and all that to get hyped to kill people and he did the stabbing with an ISIS flag in his pocket. This is just another sign that we need to wipe out ISIS for good until they do anymore bad.

  21. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/republicans-could-do-a-lot-worse-than-merrick-garland-under-president-clinton-or-president-trump/

This article is about President Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, and how Republicans could do a lot worse in the future than having Garland on the bench. If the Republicans in the Senate refuse to even hold hearings on Garland it will not only alienate voters of both parties before the Presidential election, but it will put them at the most realistic of predictions being that either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump are nominating the justice during their term as President, with the possibility of Clinton getting a majority Democrat Senate and getting whatever nominee she wants no matter how liberal they are. Trump could be even worse, as the GOP has no idea who Trump may nominate, whether it be a circuit court judge on either party line or even his own sister. Obama put the ball in the court of the GOP and gave them a nominee that is going to be very hard to refuse for them, both ideologically or what it may do to the opinion of voters that will be voting on many of the Republican seats in the Senate in 2016.

  22. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/primary-turnout-means-nothing-for-the-general-election/

This article is about how the voter turnout in primaries does not correlate to turnout for the general election. Some in the media and privately have incorrectly assumed that the higher voter turnout on the Republican side of primary season is a great predictor for the turnout that will happen in the general election, and that the Democratic Party should be worried because of their lower turnout. Based on the data in the article though, this is not true. Turnout in a primary is not showing to be predictive of the turnout in the general and only shows which party may have a more hotly contested race, which is true for the Republican side and not the Democratic side, which would go along with the amount of votes cast.

This article begins by trashing the government for the tragedies that have happened over the years, including the war in Afghanistan, Hurricane Katrina, and the Flint Water Crisis. It also talks about how people are constant, 24 hour access to all the horrors that happen everyday and it causes general distrust of the government in every nation. People are nervous and need reassurance, and this article believes it should start with the middle class. This is interesting because out of all the candidates this year, I don't think any of them will be able to do much for the middle class, or are focused on the middle class at all.

This article discusses a recent experiment done in California. Several prison inmates serving for minor crimes were released from captivity in an attempt to reduce the money being spent toward the prison system. Some would have expected a massive surge of crime throughout the area, but the opposite happened. There was no major surge in crime in any of the areas that the prisoners were released into. This raises the question of whether or not we should be locking people away from minor things such as marijuana use. I think that we currently spend too much money on the prison system. I also believe that we are locking up people who do not necessarily deserve to do time. We need to find a fine line between justice and doing the smart thing to help our economy. This study shows that releasing people for minor crimes does not raise the crime rate substantially, so it's futile to keep them locked up.

I thought this article was really fitting considering that we are learning about the judiciary. One thing I found very interesting was that all Justices who currently sit on the bench are graduates of Harvard or Yale. It apparently takes incredible educational credentials to be considered for the position at all. The record of the nominee is also considered. It is helpful to be working for a neutral law firm unlike being a lawyer for the ACLU.
