I think this is a serious iussue in today america becasue if we want everyone to go to collge to be sucessful why is it so expensive it puts us in debt that we can never get out of why would are governemtn want to do this to its people we should makie collge free like everywhere else in the world to the ones that take it serious.

    1. I definitely feel bad for other countries because the pictures and stories people DO tell us reaches our sentimental appeals.I wish we could help them as much as possible, BUT I do agree that first we should worry about ourselves. This is because if it came down to it, those other countries would take care of themselves first as well.

This bill was introduced last session of Congress but it died in committee. A law firm investigated why and it appears it had to do with the fact a Democrat introduced it. Furthermore, although this is a nonpartisan issue, it is a low salience issue. No one really cares. Therefore, the Huckleberry House thought it'd be a good idea to show our senators, Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown, that the youth care about this issue.
This is a tax credit so that Huckleberry House can build apartments for their students to live in. This tax credit to build housing for the homeless is already in place, but it excludes housing for full time students because the government doesn't want universities to take advantage of the tax credit. This bill would exclude universities, but would allow organizations like Huckleberry House to take advantage.

    Thanks for signing it.

This article is about Donald Trump and his campaign. It states practically his motto of the campaign--"We will have so much winning if I get elected, you may bored with the winning." This phrase makes all of the Trump fans believe that Trump equals winning. I don't necessarily think this is true for all of us as a whole. Trump may think that he and the country is winning, but we have different considerations of "winning" than he does. I believe that our country will do the complete opposite of win.

This article is about Trumps big win in Nevada which seems to just jeep on giving him momentum. Which i would like to speak more on my hatred for Trump it isnt all the article is about. In the democratic debate Clinton seemed to go against Bernie and try to shoot him down figuratively, but Bernie took a different approach, he spoke on embracing Obama and also labeling Trump as racist. (which trump very much is) The big deal with Trump is that he can get almost to all the media attention in state which allows him to get more popular votes which if he wins would likely be the reason he would win.

    1. In todays society unfortunately the media focuses on the bad or scandalous things about a candidate. Trump I feel is able to get the media because of the things he says. He says racist remarks and claims about not loosing voters even if he committed murder. However, I feel that the only reason Trump is doing so well is because he is not afraid to speak his mind. He does not dodge questions like the usual politician does. I agree with you AJ that his media attention does get him the popular vote. However, in the long run, I feel he will soon realize what we have been saying all along. He is not right for the presidency.

    2. Trump is definitely becoming a voter favorite. I'm not really sure how that happened, since it seems most people are against him becoming president. It's not news to anyone that Trump is extremely racist and just politically incorrect in general, but maybe that was the plan of his campaign... It seems to be working out just fine for him.

      Delete
    3. Trump is a very confusing case. He's the one that most likely ask anyone about and they would not support him. But they know him, a decent amount of people in the U.S. know more about Trump then any other candidate. Which like you said Austin, really puts the blame on the media for constantly putting the spotlight on him. His massive flaws allow him to be relevant. Any media attention for a candidate is good attention, and Trump proves that.

    4. Trump has some good idea but he doesn't go about them in the correct ways at all. Now don't get me wrong, I dislike him just as much as the next person but I have to admit some ideas are good but only if done differently. Bernie was correct in calling him racist and if trump is mad, it's just because someone is finally calling him out on his stuff. I personally hope Bernie wins.

  6. Reply to Brit: Donald Trump does believe that he is the savior of america but as I can see me and you and a lot others think differently. Trump has a huge following of racist white people which seem to be allowing him to win the primaries which is dumb. But this also points out how racist people really are.

  7. http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/23/politics/spike-lee-bernie-sanders-endorsement/index.html
This is an article releasing the fact that Hollywood producer Spike Lee has endorsed Bernie Sanders. #feelthebern! He says that it is time for action and that we need to "wake up". Lee is known for his films about politics and other urban issues. Lee is also stated to be the on the front lines for diversity in the Oscar nominations. Lee then tells CNN that America is the beacon of democracy and it would not be right if we elected Trump as president. He says that this is the highest office in the U.S. not a television show. Lee then goes on to say that he does not trust Trump with the nuclear box that the commander in chief has. I agree with Lee when he is talking about Trump. The bottom line is, Trump is an entertainer and America needs a politician as president not and entertainer.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I can definitely agree with that Curtiss. Trump is quite the entertainer, it seems that everywhere he goes, he seems to rally the attention of people, and that really seems to work in getting support for him, but with his loud spoken behavior, people's ears seem to fall deaf to what trump is is really saying, or they don't seem to care how controversial and hurtful his message is, it just seems to make him seem different from the usual politicians, and with that, they want to believe that change is good, but this kind of change just might be a bit too detrimental.

      Delete
    2. I agree with you Curtiss. It would be a huge embarrassment to the United States if Donald Trump were to be elected because he's ultimately a reality television star. Bernie Sanders has been politically active his whole life and looks to include people not exclude them in the liberties America has to offer. Trump needs to learn from history and figure out that his bigotry in office is only going to go down in history as a huge embarrassment. His idea to kick Muslims out is similar to WWII when we were suspicious of all the Japanese people because of Pearl Harbor. I'm sure most of us cringe when we remember the way America treated the Japanese back in the day.

Oh how far politics has fallen, at least on the republican side, With the current trends of Donald Trump leading the polls, it seems that things on the right side of politics have definitely changed from the Reagan years. Reagan, while known for being very staunchly conservative and implementing very conservative programs like trickle down economics, Reagan was also known for his ability to compromise and work with the Democrats while still keeping with his conservative ideology. He even was inclusive of immigrants, like Hispanics, whom Reagan wanted to draw to the conservative party. Now, Republicans seem unwilling to compromise, and the top candidates seem to be highly against immigrants of any kind into this nation. But maybe there's something that I'm missing, so I ask this for those of conservative political ideology, how do you feel about the current conservative political climate? Perhaps a more conservative person can answer this question better than I can.

This article is about competition between Clinton and Sanders. Sanders is starting to make huge strides and is national overall winning as of now, but he still has huge hurdles and is running out of time. It is crazy how driven college students are with Sanders, I believe Sanders has created some sort of political awakening with young voters. The article then goes to break down what votes Clinton will receive compared to Sanders.

This article is about how the United States Fish and Wildlife Service is considering to remove bears from their Endangered Species Act protection. Stripping the bears of this protection would allow for them to be hunted outside of park boundaries in most states. I don't think that the bears should have this protection taken away from them, especially since bears populations are decreasing over time. If the protection act is removed, the bear population will greatly be impacted.

    1. The main problem with bears is that they are so dangerous to humans. That said they should still not be removed from the endangered list because they still do not have a great enough population to be a threat.

      Delete
    2. I have always felt that big game hunting is wrong. It has always seemed like a useless twisted way for people to enjoy themselves. I also feel that animals who just barely make out of the endangered list should not be hunted automatically. The bear population should be on the no hunt list for awhile.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard of South Dakota must decide by Tuesday whether his state will become the first to designate some public restrooms at schools off limits to transgender students. The decision must be hard because this is a very tricky subject to talk about. The topic of transgender and their rights of expression in the world are highly unstable. here are people who opposed trangeredess and others welcome it. I simply don't care. But I realized that mostly everyone else has a strong opinion about their rights. I can see how both parties would feel uncomfortable being in a restroom based on their sexual orientation. A similar situation of this decision can be viewed in the military where there is also tension about people with different sexual orientations being integrated in their anatomically identified gender.

There is a certain kind of category of drugs called opioids. governors are restrict how and under what circumstance doctors prescribe opioids. With high drug overdose deaths this action is predicted to stop or at least decrease the amount of deaths. The amount of deaths have come about from high addiction to drugs as simple as painkillers. This action that governments are trying to enforce seems good , because it's aiming to save lives of people. But there will definitely be complicated with doctors and their prescription because many ethical problems/issues would arise due to this action

This article discusses the recent endorsement of Donald Trump by Chris Christie. As stated by one of our classmates, Joe, "It's funny how one loud mouth is supporting another." These two candidates are two very disliked people by the American public and within the Republican party. They both are very loud, obnoxious, and rude people. I don't think that Christie's endorsement of Donald Trump will aid Trump too much in the race. After all, Christie has been out of the race for a while now. He obviously wasn't that popular to begin with. Both are inconsistent politicians who I pray will never step foot into the White House.

This article urges the governor of South Dakota, Dennis Daugaard, to use his authority to veto a bill that would make his state the first to ban transgenders from using soome public bathrooms. I completely agree with the author of this article in the respect that Daugaard should veto this bill. This is completely violating the rights of a certain group of people. Even at school, I have seen transphobia, and it makes me sick. Transgender people are just like anyone else. It is not their fault in the slightest that they were born in the wrong body. If someone feels like they are not the right sex, they should have EVERY right to change that. And if someone is transgender, that should not prevent them from using something like a bathroom. If you really are that bothered by someone's gender identity, you have bigger problems than what bathroom someone else uses. People like this are lacking character skills and should probably look into going to therapy to work on that. This bill is just another way that people are trying to oppress the LGBT community. I feel like passing such a bill violates the Constitution, and Daugaard should veto it without hesitation.

This article is about if parents should choose the gender of the unborn baby. couples are now choosing what the gender should be. something that the doctors have advice to not do in 1999, but thanks to the growing popularity of in vitro fertilization, more and more parents-to-be are gaining the ability to determine, with almost 100% certainty, the gender of their baby. Many couples are joining the revolution that many are doing like model Chrissy Teigen and her husband, singer John Legend. With the help big names like them people are changing there minds.my outpoint in this is that its a great step for mankind because now they might stop a disease from ever happen with this. But deep down I know this is wrong because humans cant just be happy with just good, they reach too far. Someday with the help of this they would that playing god with it.

    1. I agree with you Mohamed. I think it's great that parents are now able to choose the gender of their baby since it can help prevent hereditary diseases and other illnesses. I don't quite think that people are reaching too far, I just think that they like to be in control of everything and I think parents should have the option to choose the gender of their baby if it's available to them. Although I do wonder how this might affect population.

This article is about how if the South Dakota Governor, Dennis Daugaard, has the power to decide if his state will become the first to designate bathrooms at schools for transgender people. I honestly do not think that this is a good idea because this would make these kids feel separated from the rest of society. They are already considered outcasts and this would only make it worse for them to live a normal life.

    1. I agree, they should be accepted not separated. I also feel like there would be an outrage just like when black and whites had separate bathrooms and it would cause an unnecessary mess. Not only is it wrong, it would take a whole lot of money to put in new separate bathrooms that wouldn't be used very often.

This article is about how old a child should be before they are tried as an adult and how that age could lower crime. Connecticut and Illinois are considering raising the age of juvenile court jurisdiction to 21 while New York and North Carolina are the only states where 16 year olds can be tried as adults. Research shows that raising the age in Connecticut and Illinois has lowered the amount of prisoners and the amount of youths being rearrested. I think the age depends on how serious the crime was.

    1. I think this is another aspect of the government that is hard to make laws about. If you're going to try a 16 year old as an adult, why not go further and try a 12 or 10 year old as an adult? And what's the difference between a 17 year old and an 18 year old? There isn't a real cut off as to where the age should be. I think for now, that the age should remain at 18 years old, since people know from that point that they're responsible for their own actions and need to accept repercussions.

I've never really thought about the relation of the US and Russia. But after seeing that they seem to be going against the US on the war on ISIS.(based on the information from this article) I just don't understand why Russia would be doing that though. what do they even gain for "harassing" the United States? I know the tensions between Russia and the US are very high, however, what is their motive for doing anything against the United States? Unless they plan to do world domination under the reign of Putin or something crazy like that, there's got to be a reason. Maybe they just want to be the big nation they were before. I'm not sure at all.

This article is about how Trump supports the torture of terrorists. I don’t think this is a good idea because we believe in “innocent until proven guilty” and this would ruin that. It’s also inhumane and ineffective. It can also cause hatred of America which will cause more danger and terrorist attacks. Torturing them can fuel the very organizations that we want destroyed, and can cause even more problems than there were instead of fixing them.

I feel like this shouldn't be a problem in 2015. The simple solution was to have them tried already. I mean like if we feel they are an actual threat to the US then they should be given their rightful punishment. Instead we are spending millions of dollars to detain them. If we have to literally go out of our way and beg another country to give them a trial for us then we shouldn't have detained them in the first place. I just feel its a waste of money detaining terrorist.

  26. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/christies-endorsement-of-trump-totally-makes-sense/

This article is about Chris Christie's endorsement of Donald Trump today. The move by Christie isn't all that much of a shock based on how he treated Trump in debates. Christie's treatment of John Kasich during and after Christie's presidential campaign is also interesting. There could be room in a potential Trump cabinet for both men. Kasich's moderate views would certainly be appealing to the general election voters that a Trump/Christie ballot would completely and totally alienate. The problem is John Kasich stepping down from his governor position to be VP, which may seem like a move upward, but in reality he may have more power as a governor. Another problem is just with the Kasich and Trump dynamic in general. Kasich is an establishment Republican that seems to stick pretty tightly to the proverbial Republican handbook, and nothing he has ever done would make me think he would like to align himself with the very un-establishment Trump and Christie. Just as Christie helped sink the campaign of MItt Romney in the 2012 general election to kickstart his own 2016 campaign, his actions had huge ramifications on the campaign of Marco Rubio. Maybe Christie attacking Cruz and Rubio before New Hampshire wasn't for his own last ditch push for a possible double digit finish, but was instead to cozy up to the frontrunner Trump to secure a position in his cabinet. I'm sure he would love to be Attorney General.

This opinion editorial was discussing the latest Republican debate. One thing I really like is that the author discusses each candidate and their performance. In discussing Trump, he says that unfortunately Trump's following is not leaving any time soon. He says that Trump's followers think of him as Jesus and all of the other candidates as Judas. It's unfortunate to think that this is actually true. Trump is crazy and his followers are too. Next, the author discusses Rubio's fantastic showing at the debate. He mostly focused on his attacks to Trump. My favorite part and what seems to be the author's favorite part was when Rubio "re-used" an insult by saying that Trump was repeating himself after he himself had been called Robot Rubio for a few weeks. The author also discusses Cruz unusually poor performance in his home state of Texas.

  28. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/marco-rubio-finally-steps-up-as-the-anti-trump/

This article is about the Republican debate in Houston on Thursday night. Coming into the debate the main focus for most was what would happen between the two clear frontrunners in the race now, Donald Trump and Marco Rubio. Rubio had never taken on Trump head on in a debate before, which was probably the smart move to not wake a sleeping bear and keep letting it wail on the nearby Jeb Bush and knock him out of the race. Rubio did go head on Thursday night, and for some of it was successful in getting at Trump. More successful than anyone in the past has ever been, and this should send a signal to all those in the Republican party that don't want Trump to win the nomination. At this point it looks like Rubio and Trump are the only viable candidates. Kasich might have a shot if he gets to Ohio, but he still needs multiple second or third place showings on Super Tuesday to keep his momentum going, and it seems like he won't be able to even get to his home state, where he is also losing to Trump in polls anyway, but is at least within striking distance. Carson is still here for some reason, probably for personal gain and a book deal/Fox News job eventually, but I also can't imagine many of Carson's votes going to an establishment candidate like Rubio. He's running on the same outsider platform as Trump, just more conservative, so I imagine most of his votes go to Trump. Cruz could have a big showing on Super Tuesday depending on how much he could possible win his home state of Texas by, but after that the evangelical vote he relies on is running thin. For Rubio to do this he needs to go one-on-one with Trump and he most importantly needs to win Florida. If he loses Florida it's all but over, and if it's Trump that takes all the Florida delegates that race could be over on March 15th. That's the last stand for those who want the traditional Republican to get the nomination, and he's going to need help to do it. He needs to be at least top 3 in every Super Tuesday state, and he needs to at least compete with Trump on delegates won that day. He needs Kasich and Carson to drop out after Tuesday, and he should take the majority of Kasich's voters, but Carson is probably another story. Then if he can get Cruz out by Florida and take the majority of his votes, he could do it. But he absolutely, positively, must win Florida. If he loses Florida the endorsement train stops running, and that's all he has over Trump.

My question is do we actually go along with it? Or do we do all in our power to make sure he never sees the light of day? He has contributed to more then 40 percent of the illegal drugs that enter the U.S and not to mention the crime he has plagued on his own country. Do we offer the world biggest drug dealer and one of mexico most powerful me a chance at freedom again? I don't think so, him pleading guilty is him taking the easy way out because he knows he has no chance of escaping again.
