http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/18/opinion/how-to-fight-isis.html?ref=opinion This article is about ISIS and what America's next steps should be. It says that we should not declare war on ISIS and that President Obama was wise his decision. Although it goes on to say that NATO should unite and together combat ISIS. The writers view is strange because several times he bashes Republicans saying that their calls for war are just noise and that they are just putting blame on President Obama instead of doing their jobs. After bashing Republicans he is very supportive of military action in against ISIS which is shows a conservative ideology, so he is a conservative bashing republicans, maybe a conservative democrat? Either way i actually agree with his views, we shouldn't blindly launch a war on ISIS without a sophisticated plan on how to get rid of them, but action clearly needs to be taken, and the best way to do that would be through NATO. The writer also makes a solid point on how the Arab countries are divided on the the real enemy is, which causes problems. Because of all the different views on what should happen to Syria and all the infighting in Syria, there is less attention on combating ISIS.
I agree Gage, some form of action needs to be taken to stop ISIS. I agree that we will be getting involved in an issue that only concerns two countries, France and Syria. I feel that the U.S. stepping in with more military action is not the right way to go just yet. However, if we get attacked like ISIS says they are planning to... We then take to advanced military action. However, if this happens it will be similar to how the U.S. got dragged into WWII, which I fear will be the start to WWIII.
I agree that if we do get attacked there will be a WWIII because it is almost inevitable. There will always be conflict that is just human nature but we can change the way feel about violence. to do that we can bomb or we can talk both have there effective ways but i believe a bomb just might be the best choice in this occasion.
I agree with your post. The ideal of a war unprepared for is something we shouldn't do. So I definitely agree in saying we need a sophisticated plan instead of just going ham on ISIS with some bombs and a war. However, I don't agree with your comment of saying that there wont be a third world war. The state were in right now with ISIS, it isn't only us and France that hate ISIS or have a problem with them.Russia is also very much wanting to go against ISIS, Putin is basically saying hes had enough of them and is wanting to really rid the world of them. Also, for sure if we get attacked in a very large way, not only will we declare war on them, France will follow behind us along with Russia and at the very maximum Great Britain will too.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/18/europe/paris-attacks-at-a-glance/index.html This is an article showing that the next site ISIS plans to attack in the U.S. is Washington D.C. and New York. Attached to this article is a video explaining some still photos about the threat video sent out from ISIS. The images show what looks like someone constructing an explosive device, a man zipping up the device in his jacket, and then a busy street in New York. Now, the CNN corespondent in the video said that there are many stock photos of these items available to anyone just by a quick google search. I completely agree, ISIS is very well know for making videos and threats towards us but never have officially done anything. I feel that these were simply a way for American citizens to respond in fear and get us all worked up, so that way it will distract us from living our life normally. Thats all, I think there is nothing to be worried about. And if there were, we can't live our life in fear. We just have to be aware of our surroundings.
ISIS has just recently threatened New York City. The police are taking all precautions necessary to protect the people from New York City. I believe that ISIS is a very dangerous group and we aren't doing enough to stop them. ISIS is becoming a trend with some people from every country, violent people that cant be contained. For america to be safe we need to get rid of the main source and that may take drastic measures. To respond to these threats many Americans are scared and some are ready to fight, I agree with both but you cant solve violence with violence but sometimes there inst any other way.
ISIS says that they brought down a Russian plane last month with a soda pop bomb. This bomb is just a pop container with a detonator and some dynamite that can be made in masses and are very cheap which is why ISIS uses them. The bomb hit the plane in the middle and made it split apart whenever it crashed. Everyone on board the Russian aircraft died from this event. ISIS truly just needs to be bombed to no end until there headquarters and everything about them is leveled. This might not be the moral thing to do but ISIS will never quit unless we do something to them along those lines.
^^^ Gage is right. But sadly, I do agree with you. I feel like they all must be killed just to end some of the evil in this world. This is because not only are they threatening the people of Paris, but the US now as well. It is only a matter of time that they start making more attacks. I've heard that they are even planning one for Ohio.
It's sad that not even a can of soda is entirely safe now in the world. I agree with both, Austin and Brittney, with the fact that we need to get rid of ISIS all at once. However, France didn't hesitate to carpet bomb them after the terrorist attacks on Paris. Also ISIS isn't just out of now where, threatening the US. It has been going on for quite some time.
This article is about how President Obama went onto ABC News and stated that we had no need to worry about ISIS and that they have contained them. This was just one day before the attack on Paris. The article stated that ISIS is killing almost anyone and everyone simply to show that they can do whatever they want. Barack Obama has rated the "climate change" as more dangerous than ISIS. We wonder if the perspective is changed now because of what has happened in Paris. I feel as though we must put a stop to them once and for all, but this may take a while, just like finding Osama Bin Laden did.
I don't fully know why President Obama would say that we have them contained. Does he mean every single ISIS member is accounted for and put into such a position that they have no room for any offensive capabilities? Which that is false, being the the Paris terrorists attack would've not happened if that was the case. I also don't get him saying Climate change is a higher problem, I mean, it IS a problem but that is more of a constant one that is rare to change. While a terrorist group, you don't know what they are going to do and how they are going to do it, which really should be higher up on the list.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/11/19/real_estate/neighborhoods-good-schools-affordable/index.html This article is talking about that you don't have an equal chance to succeed due to the rich school, poor schooling problem. If you want your kid to go to a good school you have to live in a high class expensive area which is hard for most people because they don't have that amount of money. So the rest of not so rich people have to live in lower class areas which give there kids a disadvantage in life "a footstep back" under the rich kids. So the gig on everyone is equal is not true we aren't getting the same schooling as the rich kids so how can we be just as successful?
I agree with Trey. Wealth is one of the most powerful attributes one can have. An extremely wealthy person would be more likely to succeed than an extremely impoverished person, even if the latter is much smarter than the former. Wealth provides needs for things such as better education, tutors, etc. This creates a clear divide in social classes and maintains this divide by making it hard to cross over.
I also agree with trey. I think that the rice have a higher percent of getting what they really want in life, but that just other thing that make it sweeter when you get there. All the hard work you but in and all the time you but in will lead you somewhere. But still it would be nice for everyone to stared in the same place.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/19/opinions/miller-isis-the-long-war/index.html This article is about Isis and how it will not be a quick war. They give us reasons why #1 It's a long war because 15 years after 9/11 and decades after Islamic suicide terror made its Middle Eastern debut in Lebanon with Hezbollah attacks against U.S. Marines and embassies, we're still fighting it.#2 It's the long war because as necessary and vital as military airstrikes are, they can't provide the definitive answer to the problem. #3 It's a long war because key Arab states are melting down. In Libya, Yemen, Syria and Iraq there is neither good, stable nor coherent governance #4 It's the long war because the West cannot win the fight against radical Islam until the Muslim majority begins to confront and deal with the cancer of the extremist ideology within its midst #5 It's the long war because ISIS has jumped borders and morphed into an idea as well as a physical movement or proto terror state. #6 And it may be a longer war, unless we start describing accurately the nature of the challenge we face. I think the main reason why these events keep happening is because they don't have the same government set up as us so they wont work like us or have the same outcomes we have when tragic or crazy things happen like this so i think they should be made to have are type of government if we help them so after we fix it and get it under control corruption doesn't come back.
This is an article written by the 2012 Republican nominee for president, Mitt Romney. In the article, Romney criticizes the efforts done by the current president, Barack Obama, in regards to the terrorist organizations such as ISIS that have been wreaking so much havoc throughout the world. Romney mentions Obama's message to America -- the one in which he described the ISIS situation as "contained" -- that was addressed just mere hours before the awful terrorist attacks against Paris, France. Romney believes that the Obama administration is not doing enough to eradicate the cancer that is ISIS, but he lacks a clear understanding for what needs to be done. A basic outline for a plan is described in the article by Romney, which is as follows: 1.) Identifying the enemy 2.) "Wage the war to defeat the enemy, not merely to harass it" 3.) Promote leading Muslim nations to "engage in a sustained global campaign to promote tolerance and eschew violence." 4.) "Stop the insanity of welcoming hundreds of thousands of people from the Middle East." Obviously, Romney's plan is not one of thoroughness or clear focus. Let's begin with the first step. Romney believes that we, as Americans, need to identify the enemy. Well, Mitt, here's the thing: we already have identified the enemy. We know who these radical extremists are. We even have access to a majority of their information, including their names. Next, according to Romney, we need to wage the war to defeat the enemy. I think it's hilarious how one can simply call for the Obama administration to "defeat the enemy" without having a clear plan to carry out. It's much easier said than done. The Obama administration has done a good job at handling and eradicating extremist threats. Are we just going to forget about the assassination of Osama Bin Laden? Even if Obama were to call for a higher amount of force to combat the terrorists, there would be several consequences. Just to list a few, we would have to spend billions of dollars that we simply don't have, we would lose thousands if not millions of American lives, and we would risk starting a nuclear war. Romney's next idea is to promote leading Muslim nations to "engage in a sustained global campaign to promote tolerance and eschew violence." I think this is hysterical for many reasons. Firstly, Romney is insinuating that Muslim nations would promote ideas in opposition to this. These bigoted views are the same as the ones that have lead to the high amount of Muslim discrimination and hate crimes worldwide. Muslims, for the most part, are a peaceful group of individuals; only an extremely small percentage of them act otherwise. Should we discriminate against Christians for the hate crimes that they perform on groups such as gays and those who support abortions? Of course not. Why is it any different with Muslims? It's so easy for wealthy, white, Christian men to judge others without ever stopping to point the finger at themselves. The problem of terrorism is NOT the Muslim religion, it is the few people who choose to carry out insane acts because of some sort of mental disorder. Lastly, Romney says, we should "stop the insanity of welcoming hundreds of thousands of people from the Middle East." This is exactly the kind of selfish mindset that is driving millions away from the Republican Party. America was founded as a nation for all, not for a nation for some. We need to stop discriminating against an entire race for the acts that a few have done! Virtually none of the starving men, women, and children are not fleeing their homes to come and terrorize us! They are just trying to flee to a safe, welcome environment in which they don't have to worry about the harsh grasp of the extremists. I completely disagree with everything Mitt Romney has to say about the Obama administration.
I completely agree with you Brandon. In regards to the threat of ISIS, if ell that Mitt Romney is completely wrong as to what we should do. We have identified the enemy, we have done a good job at containing the enemy, we shouldn't do actions based on a thought that Those of the Muslim faith mostly agree with ISIS when they overwhelmingly don't. and we should welcome the refugees with open arms who seek shelter and protection from this extreme state. PS: I admire the great amount of passion and detail that you put into this, it's extremely commendable. I might just have to start stepping up my game!
On this article it speaks of the newly released threat against not only the White House but New York City as well. This is where i think a World War III will come into place. They are threatening to bomb NYC once again and now the White House as well. They have also made more threats towards France again, in the video claming "We shall blow it up like we did the false idols in this good land". In the video another ISIS member also stated "We shall follow them wherever they may go and Allah willing we shall lead them like slaves, like dogs. Allah willing we shall lead them like slaves, like dogs." This article was updated according to English standard time on Friday the 20th of November 2015. It is the third video threatening the US. We need to take a stand finally, hike up our boots and start on making a plan that will allow us to eliminate this terrorist group. We cannot allow them to destroy or hurt our nation again. We cant sit here being afraid of another world war just because we don't want one. If there needs to be one then we need to make it happen or at the very least, join in once it starts. the article then goes to state that Italy upped its security measure to make it safer for citizens. I think that's what the US also needs to do.
This article is about how strict doctor-patient confidentiality law should be. This article focuses on a case where a murderer's psychiatrist did not warn anyone about his patient's homicidal thoughts. He was sued for not warning the victims, but a lower court voted in his favor. Now, the question has been raised to whether or not there should be more exceptions to the doctor-patient confidentiality laws. Right now, the only exceptions are when the information is in the "public interest", complying with a court order, or when it is clearly in the patients interest. I think that if a patient warns his psychiatrist about committing homicide, then the doctor should be able to warn local authorities about him.
I agree with you. If a psychiatrist knows that their patient is a danger to themselves, or other people, then they should be able to tell people so that they can be monitored and hopefully prevent anything bad from happening. If you can prevent something from happening, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t, sometimes safety is more important than keeping someone’s secret.
This article is about a doctor who quit his job in obstetrics to travel down to the south to work in an abortion clinic. This doctor originally thought that abortions were morally wrong, but after reading a sermon he realized that whether or not he agrees with it, he should show compassion for these women who need his help. I think that abortions should be readily available everywhere in the US. The Supreme Court has deemed them legal, yet many southern states have set laws to make it very difficult for women to have an abortion. If the Supreme Court made the decision to allow abortion, then the states shouldn't be able to alter that.
What would you do if your loved one was extremely ill and needed a certain medicine to recover? You would do anything. What if that medicine was way too expensive to be paid for by both of your life savings combined? That question is discussed in the article listed above. The author discusses how we, as Americans, should handle the outrageous prices of necessary drugs. The author of this article believes that the price of medicine should be reevaluated, but he does not believe that medicine should be given out freely, even under life-threatening circumstances. While I can imagine how expensive it is to make medicine, I do not believe that we should put a price on someone's life. If your loved one was dying and needed an expensive drug to be able to survive but couldn't afford it, you would be heartbroken. We as human beings need to remember that, at the end of the day, we are all one species that needs to work together in order to survive. One human's life is not worth more than another's, even if the first has made billions while the latter has made nothing.
This has been in the back of my head for a while now. It is definitely unfair for how much medical treatment costs. People will say "Well insurance covers most of it," but insurance cost money too. There is basically no way to get the proper care you need without the necessary cash. I wish that companies would just prevent facts. Does a bottle of pills really cost that much to make? It would be interesting to do the research, but even after we found out the true cost. It should somehow be lowered. It is simply ridiculous that something necessary to life would require a monetary stamp.
This talks about Isis being crazy for attacking Paris and what type of weapons they have. In my eyes Isis did not attack out of pure craziness. What is the one thing we have all seen sense the attack? Fear, News Headlines, Isis this, Isis that. I think Isis did that to get in the news headlines again. They needed something big cutting heads off was okay till the news stop caring. Terrorist groups thrive off of the public that's how they recruit. If we cut the pubic from them they get desperate.

This is reply to this guy but the reply button don't work. I personally think it is alright to get a abortion at least on your own will. You get a abortion because you don't want the child. It be better off to get rid of the child now then mistreat them while they are alive. It happens all the time to the wrong kids and maybe its better to stop the life before we mistreat it.
The title of this article was a bit weird "The Farce Awakens" for the context of this article, I'm not exactly sure how Star Wars has to deal with a terrorist attack but ok. For a bit of explanation, I never really looked into the Paris terrorist attacks. I've seen some reactions from Paris itself but that's it. Though from what the article is saying, it is quite sad that some people have ideas to fix it that seem very... Illogical, like Jeb Bush said that you should "Prove that you are christian" I'm not sure how to go against that idea other than saying that is down right stupid. that is no way to solve that problem. Or another Chris Christie which said that he wants to put a ban young children. In my opinion, the "right" solution is do what Paris did, simply allow more refugees. Which some may argue that it has a possibility to bring terrorists however, didn't we already come to terms with that when the whole question came up? Why are countries and political figures backing down now even though this risk was acknowledged?
Its my strongest believe that i think Donald Trump is a racist. You ask why? In his latest attempt to publicly to humiliate Muslim Americans all over this country, He suggests that all Muslims should register their faith and be surveillance in their place of worship i.e the mosque. This article compared his thoughts to that of Nazi Germany in which Jews had to wear the Golden Star of David. when ask why he suggest this, he simply left after seeing the reporters horrified face as he was telling him of his plan. one of his ideas was to enter a holy place ( the mosque ) without a warrant. which i think is massed up.
I agree with you Mohamed. Trump is talking in circles and is only hurting his chances rather than helping matters. I honestly do not think Trump understands what he is talking about and wants to try to make this country the way he sees the world. If refugees did enter America, they should become citizens just like any other immigrant. We never automatically assume every immigrant is a terrorist based on what country they came from, so we should not for the refugees.
Heroes In The Shadows. Ghost Security Group is is a collaboration of individuals ranging from ex military personnel, ex gov't agents and skilled IT technicians joining together to stop terrorist such as ISIS. Unlike other hackers these people share their intelligence with the Untied States Government. I believe that these people are heroes because they are taking the fight to the oppressors. I hope they accomplish their goal of stopping this common enemy that we share.
This article is about how Hillary Clinton made a speech attacking the problem with ISIS head on. She states that the only way that ISIS can be defeated completely if a Sunnis have an uprising again like they did against Al-Qaeda in 2007. This wont happen as long as the current president of the regime in Syria remains president.
This article is about Obama's plan against Isis being a full scale aerial attack. Obama's plan is to use plans and attack Isis without harming no civilians. This plan is idiotic because how are you just going to drop bombs on enemies you cant see and not expect to harm a civilian? But what is absurd is how he plans on not sending no ground troops to fight Isis themselves. How can you plan an attack with an aerial attack and not have ground support? I don't understand this plan or Obama's thinking.
I feel that Obama has some logic behind his plan. In class we were talking about how Obama is very willing to open our borders to refugees. This could possibly be his way of saying get over to our country before bombs are dropped on your country. His plan may consist of dropping bombs at an ISIS gathering. I'm not saying that not one civilian will be harmed but I'm saying that if Obama has no intentions of hurting civilians then he will try his best to avoid that.
One key to ISIS has been their sources of revenue. They acquire money from oil refinery and crimes. The question posed was, "Can ISIS be undermined financially as it is being attacked militarily?" I believe that if their sources of revenue were tampered with or no longer there then ISIS would have no money to continue. This could cause retaliation against other countries. If a country were to bomb their oil refinery it would not only be bad for the ISIS members but for the civilians who work for the refinery. This would take away their source of income and force them to become a part of ISIS because of the benefits they offer. I don't think stopping their sources of revenue would do any justice.
http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/11/20/donald-trumps-horrifying-plan-for-american-muslims/?ref=opinion&_r=0. This article is about Donald Trump's view on letting the 10,000 refugees into America. He has stated nearly over a dozen times that he believes that we should put a border around the country to prevent illegal immigrants to enter. Hearing about the possibility of refugees coming, we would assume Trump would agree with vetoing it; however that is not the case. He said they should enter, and when they do, he suggests ways of keeping them similar to times of the Holocaust. Although the fear of terrorists being among the refugee, we are a free country to let immigrants come to live a good life. Trump is counteracting his argument and making himself to look more silly. Also I would like to point out that history continually repeats itself, even if we continually say we're going to do something to change it.
I agree with Kayla. I think the Syrian refugees should be allowed into the U.S. Donald Trump is being overly drastic when he says that Muslims should be required to be registered in a national database. This does sound a lot like what happened during the Holocaust. If the refugees were to enter the U.S., I think a screening is enough. They have already undergone screenings by the United Nations and they would most likely undergo another screening by the U.S.
I agree with you Kayla. Donald Trump doesn't understand that the process those refugees have to undergo in order to take refuge in the United States is extremely extensive and it's unfair that they be subject to such treatment after already having to prove that they aren't terrorists. No matter how hard we try to educate people there will always be prejudice and history won't repeat itself if we don't let it. If we elect Donald Trump his presidency will be no different than Hitler's reign. Donald Trump promotes racism and prejudice. If we can differentiate between the KKK and Christians we can tell the difference between Muslims and terrorists.
This article is about Hillary Clinton proposing ways to take down ISIS. She said that you can’t deal with ISIS without dealing with Assad and that ISIS will only be brought down if there is an uprising among Sunnis. She’s open to improving the bombing campaigns. The author states that the U.S. would have to pay Ukraine to back off from the Middle East and create no-fly zones to limit Assad’s power. I don’t think there is much of a plan here. It’s mostly up to the people under the control of ISIS.
This article is about Hillary Clinton's strategy to take down Syria. Hillary's strategy is very different from the strategy of the Republicans and the Democrats. Hillary's strategy purposed less combative measures than the Republicans but more American involvement than the Democrats' strategy. She purposed we create a no fly zone. This no fly zone differs from Obama's strategy because it would require a lot more American involvement. I don't think we should handle the situation the way the Republicans want us to which is with overwhelming force but we shouldn't do nothing. We need to do extensive planning especially dealing with a group as extreme as ISIS.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/20/opinions/obeidallah-trump-anti-muslim/index.html This article is about Donald Trump wanting to make Muslims register their faith and carry special identification cards, exactly how the Nazis did to the Jews in Germany. This is horrible because it makes them seem wrong and unAmerican, it also encourages separating them and treating them differently, which could lead to discrimination and eventually genocide. ISIS also said that they encourage this law because it would make Muslims leave America, or not be accepted in America, and then they could potentially join ISIS instead. This is a bad idea because it’s wrong to treat people this way, and it could strengthen ISIS.
I also agree this is wrong. The moment we discriminate and target a group of people because of their race religion or anything else we become just as bad as the terrorist we are facing. By encouraging these thoughts we as a society are showing the world that we hold our personal lives over those that are in danger and at risk from the very evil we are trying to face.
Donald Trump is very radical in his ideals. That is why a lot of people like him. A lot of the middle class is tired of these reform acts passed by Obama, that they will do anything to try and "take back" this country. This however is just absurd. First he wanted to make Mexico build a wall to keep its citizens out of America, which we all thought was weird, but a lot of people went along with it. This though is just way over the line. It just gives more people an opportunity to make fun of each other and separates us even more than we already are. I have a feeling that if he does become president, he is going to get impeached or shot, whichever comes first. (Of course I thought this about Obama too, because of some racist dude, but we can all see that that didn't happen)
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/21/opinion/the-price-of-fear.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 This article talk about how society deals with terror attacks. The articles author talk about where we as a society should draw the line between taking precautions for our safety or discriminating and endangering other at the cost of our well being. the article reminds us as American this is not the first time we have discriminated against another race because we thought we were in danger. We did it in World war 2 with the Japanese population.
I choose this article because I became aware of the fact that Donald Trump is coming on Monday, a few days ago. It's definetly something that is very weird and unexpected because it draws attention. Much of political activities in Ohio have been tranquil since Nov.3 and now Trump is visiting and will be down at the convection center. My teacher had a very shocked expression as she said Donald trump is coming! Anyways it's important because Trump has had a lot of support from a variety of voters and is high up in the list of leaders right now in the presidential campaign. The ohio primary isn't until March but Trump is holding his first rally on Monday. He's probaly focusing on ohio because Ohio is a swing state and he wants to draw support from his voters through his appearance
This article talks about the Syrian refugee and how being afraid is having a price. The editor believes that the price is the reactions people have and people who are overly overacting to terrorism because it leads to an untranquil society. The editor also points out a good example, Franklin Roosevelt during his presidency calmed the nation during the depression but he also signed an executive order which led to imprisoning thousands of Americans with Japanese ancestry. This is defiantly not a easy decision because there are so many sounds to the issue. There is definetly threat but threat has always existed.
My heart just goes out to everyone affected by the Paris bombing’s last week, but also all the Syrian refugees who have not done anything, yet are greatly discriminated against. It’s simply not fair that because of the actions of a small percentage of the people who share their same religion, but otherwise have no affiliation or connections with them. I remember a couple weeks ago reading an article in English comparing Christians to Muslims. An argument made against the automatic discrimination is that just like Christians, there are radical Muslims, there are devout Muslims, Muslims who only practice their religion on holidays, and others who have no idea what their religion is about. Somehow, all these groups of people get lumped into one group with a bad name because of the radicals, yet that doesn’t happen with Christians?
This is an older article, but one I still had to look up when I heard about the events it was chronicling. The Democratic Party nomination for the state of Mississippi was won by Robert Gray, a truck driver from a small town that had no previous political experience. The only expense for his campaign was the $300 filing fee required by the state. Not that it mattered much because the eventual results of the election earlier this month were, as expected, a landslide victory for the incumbent Republican Phil Bryant. I thought the topic went along nicely with the recent chapters in class, as it discusses some of the process of getting onto the ballot in Mississippi. It also discusses some reasons Gray may have won, and the most universally accepted reasons are that he was the first name on the ballot and that he was the only man of the three candidates. I believe that is an entirely plausible and correct reason, as the majority of the voters had no idea about any of the candidates, even the ones that spent money campaigning, because Mississippi is such a heavy Republican state that most people thought the nomination of a Democratic candidate was all but a formality, so they just selected the first name or the man.
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) has recently decided that they will add 14 all gender restrooms to their school. In addition to this they are adding a LGBTQ center to their Multicultural Center in Taylor Hall. I have no problem with the center, you be what you want to be, but when I first heard the idea of the all gender restrooms, I thought it was just plain stupid. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that it would be real awkward knowing a woman could be right next to you while you're doing your business. Heck it is awkward using the bathroom with other guys in there let alone girls. By reading this article, though, I found out that these are single stall bathrooms like family bathrooms in malls. They did say though that if someone bought up multi stall bathrooms, they would not disagree immediately, which concerns me for the reasons from before. Seriously that would be really awkward, especially if they had urinals as well in them.
With the tragic attack in Paris, the world is in shock and terror over the actions of Islamic extremists. It was an attack that no one saw coming, and lead to countless amounts of innocent lives lost. As a direct result of this attack, fear of terrorist attacks happening to other nations, especially this one, have been exacerbated to an extreme degree. That's exactly what these kind of groups want to do, strike fear and paranoia into the hearts of many innocent nations, and with that fear, comes many unfortunate consequences. We as a nation have made many horrible mistakes out of fear of what had happened that could happen again. One of these mistakes, one that we see as a grave mistake and do not like to speak of as a nation, was the internment of Japanese people during the second World War. After the tragic attack at Pearl Harbor, we as a nation were afraid, our paranoia of this kind of attack happening again got the better of us, so much so that we decided to house all people of Japanese descent in interment camps thinking that they all were Japanese spies, even though lots of those interned were born in America, they just happened to have Japanese ancestry. Unfortunately, decades later, in 2001, our fear got the better of us once again. With the tragic day of 9/11, and the collapse of the twin towers, we as a nation were afraid, and in our state of shock, we ended up agreeing to an invasion of Iraq, an invasion that cost us billions of dollars, thousands of lives, and ironically, instead of bringing stability to the nation, lead to even more instability than there was before we intervened, leading to the rise of new groups, like ISIS, to fill in the power vacuum. So in that sense, we helped create our own demons, the ones who come to attack us. With this continued fear of the extreme Islamic state, many people in this nation have disenfranchised and stereotyped those of the Muslim faith. Although, most Muslim people do not believe in the extreme cause of groups like ISIS, and have gone out of their way to condemn the actions that these groups have taken in the name of Islam. Do the people heed their cries and listen to what they have to say? No, they don't. They don't listen because fear has clouded their judgement, and has made them fear all citizens of this country who are of the Muslim faith thinking that they might be an extremist, similarly to how we feared the Japanese back during World War II. If history has taught us anything, it is that fear is our greatest downfall, and when succumb to it, we make abhorrent mistakes at the cost of many. Although these attacks may threaten us, we must stand tall, we can't let the fear take hold over us. If we keep a calm demeanor, and ensure that our collective paranoia doesn't get the better of us, then we can think with clarity, and work towards a real solution. One that will ensure that peace be kept, without having to harm so many in the process.
This article is a scathing indictment on the Western acceptance of Saudi Arabia as an ally in the Middle East. The article goes over all that Saudi Arabia is in comparison to the other Islamic states in the area and why it isn't much different, but is being treated so differently by the West. The denial of Saudi Arabia being just as bad as the other states, but the only one willing to work with Western countries shows just how important countries view the alignment with Saudi Arabia to be. It's despicable for the US to be so contradictory on its own policy when dealing with Saudi Arabia rather than other Middle Eastern countries just because Saudi Arabia is the only one not declaring war right now.
This article explains why terrorists like to target hotels. For the most part, the article says that terrorist likes to attack Westerners, and specifically Americans. It goes on to list many instances of terrorist attacks and bombings on hotels that are well-known for housing Americans. It’s crazy to me that even with all the American’s that have died in these many attacks, I don’t remember hearing about a single one. The article goes on to list the three things hotels in countries in danger from jihadist terrorists need to do in order to be safer. Which include having armed security guards able to fight off terrorists, airport-style metal detectors, and as new hotels are being built-to better safe guard against potential attacks. To me, it’s just so sad that hotels have to worry about this in the first place. I remember how much the idea of terrorism scared me when I was eight years old, when I finally began to understand what happened on September, 11th, and with all the Paris attacks, it’s making the fear much more real and alive. I don’t really know what to think, it’s all just so scary. It’s hard to say what I think America should do about the terrorist threats, but I do think we should let the Syrian refugees in.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/20/politics/paris-attacks-trump-carson-bush-muslims-refugees-mosques/index.html I’m unable to agree with the allegation that the “current political climate (is) worse than after 9/11,” because I wasn’t able to witness firsthand what happened post-9/11. Based on the larger scale terrorist attack after 9/11, and while it was in a conservative government with George Bush as president, there was more panic. Bush started the “War on Terrorism” due to, and causing, a spark in fear of Muslims.
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2015/11/20/schools-sing-praise-to-allah-create-propaganda-posters-for-isis.html This article is difficult for me to pin down my opinion to. I can see where the teachers in these cases were coming from but that's totally unacceptable. I can also level with most of the author's points but sometimes he seems totally biased. They are extremely valid points though, if one group must be singled out (ie. things like a group prayer in school, or a group meditation aren’t allowed) than all groups must follow the same rules (ie. not singing songs about the Muslim faith). I think it is very good to learn about other religions. We practiced this in 6th grade and I remember I did a project on Buddhism. It was very fascinating to know what other people believe but this learning process must be done in a fair and equal manner. It is a very touchy subject but I think these two examples were well outside the gray area of comfort.

ReplyDeleteThis article is about ISIS and what America's next steps should be.
DeleteI agree that if we do get attacked there will be a WWIII because it is almost inevitable. There will always be conflict that is just human nature but we can change the way feel about violence. to do that we can bomb or we can talk both have there effective ways but i believe a bomb just might be the best choice in this occasion.
DeleteI agree with your post.

ReplyDeleteThis is an article showing that the next site ISIS plans to attack in the U.S. is Washington D.C. and New York. We just have to be aware of our surroundings.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/18/us/new-york-isis-video-threat/index.html
ReplyDeleteISIS has just recently threatened New York City.

ReplyDeleteISIS says that they brought down a Russian plane last month with a soda pop bomb.

Delete^^^ Gage is right. But sadly, I do agree with you. I feel like they all must be killed just to end some of the evil in this world. This is because not only are they threatening the people of Paris, but the US now as well. It is only a matter of time that they start making more attacks. I've heard that they are even planning one for Ohio.
DeleteIt's sad that not even a can of soda is entirely safe now in the world. I agree with both, Austin and Brittney, with the fact that we need to get rid of ISIS all at once. However, France didn't hesitate to carpet bomb them after the terrorist attacks on Paris. Also ISIS isn't just out of now where, threatening the US. It has been going on for quite some time.
Deletehttp://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/nov/14/editorial-islamic-state-not-contained-paris-attack/
ReplyDeleteThis article is about how President Obama went onto ABC News and stated that we had no need to worry about ISIS and that they have contained them.
DeleteI also don't get him saying Climate change is a higher problem, I mean, it IS a problem but that is more of a constant one that is rare to change. While a terrorist group, you don't know what they are going to do and how they are going to do it, which really should be higher up on the list.

ReplyDeleteThis article is talking about that you don't have an equal chance to succeed due to the rich school, poor schooling problem.
DeleteI also agree with trey. I think that the rice have a higher percent of getting what they really want in life, but that just other thing that make it sweeter when you get there. All the hard work you but in and all the time you but in will lead you somewhere. But still it would be nice for everyone to stared in the same place.
Deletehttp://www.cnn.com/2015/11/19/opinions/miller-isis-the-long-war/index.html
ReplyDeleteThis article is about Isis and how it will not be a quick war.

ReplyDeletehttps://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2015/11/15/mitt-romney-obama-must-wage-war-on-the-islamic-state-not-merely-harass-it/
ReplyDeleteThis is an article written by the 2012 Republican nominee for president, Mitt Romney. A basic outline for a plan is described in the article by Romney, which is as follows:
1.) Identifying the enemy
2.) "Wage the war to defeat the enemy, not merely to harass it"
3.) Promote leading Muslim nations to "engage in a sustained global campaign to promote tolerance and eschew violence."
4.) "Stop the insanity of welcoming hundreds of thousands of people from the Middle East."
Obviously, Romney's plan is not one of thoroughness or clear focus.
Is that the longest blog you've ever gotten Mrs. Frase??
DeleteI completely agree with you Brandon.

ReplyDeleteOn this article it speaks of the newly released threat against not only the White House but New York City as well.
Also, the article goes on to say that our FBI was not even aware of any threats being made.
Deletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/19/opinion/protect-doctor-patient-confidentiality.html
ReplyDeleteThis article is about how strict doctor-patient confidentiality law should be.

ReplyDeleteThis article is about a doctor who quit his job in obstetrics to travel down to the south to work in an abortion clinic. If the Supreme Court made the decision to allow abortion, then the states shouldn't be able to alter that.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngoodman/2015/11/18/what-should-we-do-about-expensive-drugs/
ReplyDeleteWhat would you do if your loved one was extremely ill and needed a certain medicine to recover?

ReplyDeleteThe title of this article was a bit weird "The Farce Awakens" for the context of this article, I'm not exactly sure how Star Wars has to deal with a terrorist attack but ok. Why are countries and political figures backing down now even though this risk was acknowledged?
http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/20/opinions/obeidallah-trump-anti-muslim/index.html
ReplyDeleteIts my strongest believe that i think Donald Trump is a racist.
We never automatically assume every immigrant is a terrorist based on what country they came from, so we should not for the refugees.

http://www.wnd.com/2015/11/u-s-pilots-obama-blocks-75-of-isis-strikes/
ReplyDeleteThis article is about Obama's plan against Isis being a full scale aerial attack.

ReplyDeleteOne key to ISIS has been their sources of revenue.
ReplyDeleteThis article is about Donald Trump's view on letting the 10,000 refugees into America.
DeleteI agree with you Kayla.

ReplyDeleteThis article is about Hillary Clinton proposing ways to take down ISIS.

ReplyDeleteThis article is about Hillary Clinton's strategy to take down Syria. We need to do extensive planning especially dealing with a group as extreme as ISIS.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/20/opinions/obeidallah-trump-anti-muslim/index.html
ReplyDeleteThis article is about Donald Trump wanting to make Muslims register their faith and carry special identification cards, exactly how the Nazis did to the Jews in Germany.
DeleteDonald Trump is very radical in his ideals.

ReplyDeleteThis article talk about how society deals with terror attacks. The articles author talk about where we as a society should draw the line between taking precautions for our safety or discriminating and endangering other at the cost of our well being. the article reminds us as American this is not the first time we have discriminated against another race because we thought we were in danger. We did it in World war 2 with the Japanese population.

ReplyDeleteI choose this article because I became aware of the fact that Donald Trump is coming on Monday, a few days ago.

ReplyDeleteThis article talks about the Syrian refugee and how being afraid is having a price.
Deletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/08/us/shy-trucker-emerges-as-democrats-pick-for-mississippi-governor.html?_r=0
ReplyDeleteThis is an older article, but one I still had to look up when I heard about the events it was chronicling. I believe that is an entirely plausible and correct reason, as the majority of the voters had no idea about any of the candidates, even the ones that spent money campaigning, because Mississippi is such a heavy Republican state that most people thought the nomination of a Democratic candidate was all but a formality, so they just selected the first name or the man.
http://www.indystar.com/story/news/2015/11/18/all-gender-bathrooms-coming-iupui/76004474/
ReplyDeleteIndiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) has recently decided that they will add 14 all gender restrooms to their school. By reading this article, though,
I found out that these are single stall bathrooms like family bathrooms in malls. They did say though that if someone bought up multi stall bathrooms, they would not disagree immediately, which concerns me for the reasons from before. Seriously that would be really awkward, especially if they had urinals as well in them.
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/21/opinion/the-price-of-fear.html?ref=opinion&_r=0
ReplyDeleteWith the tragic attack in Paris, the world is in shock and terror over the actions of Islamic extremists.

ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/21/opinion/saudi-arabia-an-isis-that-has-made-it.html?src=me
ReplyDeleteThis article is a scathing indictment on the Western acceptance of Saudi Arabia as an ally in the Middle East.
ReplyDeleteTo me, it’s just so sad that hotels have to worry about this in the first place.
I apologize for that being so all over the place

ReplyDeleteI’m unable to agree with the allegation that the “current political climate (is) worse than after 9/11,” because I wasn’t able to witness firsthand what happened post-9/11. Based on the larger scale terrorist attack after 9/11, and while it was in a conservative government with George Bush as president, there was more panic. Bush started the “War on Terrorism” due to, and causing, a spark in fear of Muslims.

ReplyDeleteThis article is difficult for me to pin down my opinion to.
