Once again Trump is back at it again making false remarks. This article says that Donald Trump said that he witnessed many Muslim Americans cheering and partying after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Jeb Bush thinks that Trump is lying because Bush witnessed Muslim Americans being angry and saddened by the attacks just like other Americans. Bush says that Trump likes to feed off of peoples fears and frustration with D.C. But I agree with Bush when he says that these times call for a serious leader. Witch means we don't need Trump in office we need a person that is mentally serious and ready for the oval office.

    1. I think most of America already believes that Trump is unfit for presidency. He continuously makes ridiculous remarks about everything he talks about. I recently saw someone post a link on Facebook where Trump was mocking a handicapped man he had seen. I find it hard to believe that he truly witnessed Muslim Americans cheering after the 9/11 terrorists.

    2. I read another article that completely mad Trumps claim false. The Trump administration was not able to show any real evidence of what he claimed to have seen. Also this is not the most recent time that Trump has made false allegation against another race. This past week he used a white supremacist propaganda that was just completely wrong and Trumps excuse was he couldn't check all of his sources if they were true.

    3. In related news to this, my cousin went to the Trump rally. During the rally a bunch of guys were showing off socialist stuff, two guys got called out by Trump personally and had them thrown out because they were yelling stuff against him, and a chant started where everyone started yelling "Build A Wall!" So yeah I find that pretty funny

  2. http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/27/politics/white-house-fence-jumper-joseph-caputo/index.html

This is an article about a man from Connecticut who yesterday hopped the fence in front of the White House. Joseph Caputo was charged with illegal entry and had his first court hearing yesterday. This to me shows me that if an American citizen can hop the fence as a prank, then a terrorist group can definitely get in and cause some damage. After ISIS attacked Paris they then made claims that they their next target is the U.S. This shows us that we need to heighten security everywhere, especially the White House. In fact, during this jump, the First Family was on property. Also, this isn't the first time someone has jumped the fence either. Late September someone jumped the fence and actually went in the house through the FRONT DOORS!!!!!!!.

    2. That is unbelievable, you would think the capital of the United States would be more protected than just allow anybody that can jump over a fence. Though, I will say, how would you protect it? I mean you can't just shoot anybody that decides to run across yard of the White House, however you could have guards across all sides of the places. That would look a bit intimidating though. It would be hard in a security point of view to plan out something that could stop intruders but also stop plain dumb people that decide to jump over the White House's fences without hurting them. (Put two stops right beside each other, fixed it)

    3. This is kind of surprising to me, because I think back to when our class went to DC in 8th grade, and just by getting too close to the fence, like 20 secret service men were popping out of anything and everything watching us. I think this is insane, and truly terrifying. I don't really know what the solution would be, because the white house and president are some of the most highly protected things in the United States. We can't really protect everything and everyone, because there will always be holes that terrorists can get through. ISIS is a huge threat, but sadly, I don't really think there's anything we can do until they make a substantial attack on us.

This article is all about the strategies that could be used to fight ISIS. I was not surprised to read that the Republican candidates were criticizing Obama's policies regarding Syria and Iraq. Trump's response was that he would bomb ISIS. I think that the US should stay out of war with ISIS, because they would unable to accomplish what needs to be done. They don't even know who the enemy truly is, and how are they going to fight an ideology? They can't.

This article talks about the recent headlines that are everywhere about murders and more crime. People are alarmed the the crime rates might be increasing and fast. Apperantly according to the numbers there has been an increase in crime rates from last year but it isn't much of of big increasment. An analytical study discovered that in the biggest most populated cities are expected to have an approximate 11 percent increase. The article notes New York as an example since it's one of the biggest cities. Last year NY had 333 murders and it's expected to have 357 by the end of this year. I think that crime is more than just murders therefore the number of murders isn't a strong support for crime rate. I'm not sure if crime rates have increase of decrease but I think everyone is aware of the bad things that happen due to social media and cameras that are used everyday

Ads for drugs are something that are controversial to many parties . For one side it has led to problems because they can be misleading and patients demand these new drugs to doctors that might not know anything about them. For the other side manufacturers of the new drugs use the ads to sell the drugs to provide better health for the patients. The American medical associtoion had voted to ban these ads. But they fear that any court case will probaly be lost since the other side could easily argue freedom of speech. Currently only New Zeland and the US allow for consumer drug ads.

This article talk about how the W.H.O. (World Health Organization) declared that the Ebola outbreak was deemed a global health emergency, however this was two months after Doctors Without Borders also said that it was out of control and needed more attention. This is a pretty big problem, two months is a HUGE amount of time for a disease that was already said to be out of control at the time. The only thing I could think why the W.H.O. did not announce it right after the Doctors Without Borders is that maybe they thought it was not as extreme as they said it was. Though speaking that Doctors Without Borders is basically on the front lines of diseases and injuries in other countries, that should give them enough credibility to declare that type of emergency directly.

While I find it hard to believe the black tape incident was not racially motivated, especially because no one is taking credit, I can understand where the writer is coming from. Too often the narrative of race in the country victimizes people of color and ignores the achievements of minorities. Rather, we should focus on how far we have progressed in spite of injustice while remembering that barriers do exist.

  8. Once again, I waited until a story circulating on the news or social media caught my attention, and yet again another case of Trump’s ignorance was what I decided to write about. I remember sitting in the parking lot of the Goodwill in Hilliard killing time before I took my BMV test when I first heard of Trump actually running, and I thought it was a joke. Slowly, as we’re getting closer and closer to primaries, the things that come out of Trump’s mouth are becoming less and less comical, and more and more infuriating. And as if all of his ignorant comments about race weren’t enough, he has now decided that it’s okay to mock people with disabilities. I have many family members who have mental disabilities, including an aunt with schizophrenia, and I’ve spent my entire childhood-and even now-standing up for them and any disabled kid being bullied, and when this grown Bully does it on national television, it really just makes me sick. And really that’s all he is, a big bully who only knows how to be mean to others because people were mean to him. I find this disgusting, and him disgusting as both a person and politician. I don’t want someone like him representing our country, and I think anyone who seriously considers voting for him needs to seriously consider rethinking their own beliefs. This article is mainly about how Trump has tried denying that he knows the reporter, yet the reporter says they were on first name basis for a year. This man is just absolutely appalling.

    1. I agree with you Pam. Trump's supporters like the fact that he says what he's thinking but it comes in poor taste. He needs to learn that as a public figure you shouldn't respond to every negative comment made about you and you especially shouldn't make a personal jab at the other person because in the end it makes you look bad. If he were to become president I'd bet he'd start a nuclear war over something someone said about his hair. He can't be trusted. As a political leader you have to be politically correct. The people saying that we are becoming too politically correct are the white privileged people who don't have to worry about being insulted by a person's lack of political correctness and are upset because their inappropriate jokes and method of addressing minorities is becoming frowned upon. I don't understand why people are so upset that they have to stop speaking and acting in ways that may offend others. We all just need to become a little more self aware.

    2. I have to agree that Trump's imitation of a disabled is absurd. I especially find it hard to wrap around my head that people were actually laughing at what he was doing. It just goes to show that not all people are kind and only see other people's flaws instead of their own.

  9. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2015/11/28/opinion/the-new-atomic-age-we-need.html

This article talks about what needs to be done in order to create a carbon free environment. The author of this article supports nuclear power as an alternative fuel source that would create enough energy to replace fossil fuels. After doing research on the subject I would have to disagree with the article. I've concluded there are far more risks than benefits. Nuclear power does not emit as much carbon dioxide as coal or other fossil fuels and can create more energy than solar and wind power combined but it is an extremely limited source that would only last us 30 to 60 years. As a result of its scarcity, it could cause conflict between nations as a result of competition for the uranium needed especially if we determine that it's our best bet to becoming carbon free. I think we need to dedicate more scientific resources to help make use of the renewable resources we have. More nuclear plants would lead to extremely dangerous nuclear waste that would have to be monitored for years and years.

    1. I think that something definitely needs to be done about ll the carbon dioxide we’re releasing into the atmosphere. I do agree with you that we shouldn't switch to a different energy source until we’re sure that it'll work and we have enough of it that it won't cause any problems. We should have scientists constantly working on finding a more efficient and environmentally safe energy source

    2. I agree with you Raquel. Creating more nuclear waste would do more harm than good when we could use renewable resources that we already have. We do need to focus on creating a carbon free environment but we also shouldn't create more waste than we already have. Scientists should do more research to find other sources of energy that would help the environment. If they really want to help, then they wouldn't look to nuclear power as an answer.

    3. Call me a nerd, but I'm going to relate this to a video game. Fallout 4 has just been released and is already being praised as the game of the year. The long-running Fallout game series is a series about nuclear fallout. In the story that comes before the game begins, the narrator talks about the reason that they broke into world war and nuclear warfare. After America bombed Hiroshima, the alternate society broke off into using nuclear power. They made incredible technological advancements but 60 years later, in the twenty-first century, all major resources were used up because of the multiple years of consumption. The world began to fight over what little was left and used atomic bombs against each other once again. Very few people survived and the few that did were extremely hostile or had become nuclear zombies. Yes, this is fiction but it's incredibly likely if we switch over to nuclear power. Like Raquel said, it will only last 30-60 years, then it is war.

I feel this another way that the media influences the peoples minds without us knowing the whole picture. Media that does not give the viewer the full information is quite misleading. By the media saying that crime have been on the rise and give us a specific number is often very misleading. The reason is because our population is always growing and the exacts number does not reflect the current population. The percent number is a lot more accurate and represent a safer number to use but the media wants us to feel some type of way.

  11. http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2015/11/25/rethinking-the-way-we-teach-thanksgiving/an-inquiry-based-education-approach-to-thanksgiving
This article was about how we are teaching younger generations about Thanksgiving and whether it has the true meaning anymore. I agree with the woman that we have lost the meaning and teaching of Thanksgiving. I remember in first grade my teacher not only telling about the feathers and pilgrims, but about the whole point behind Thanksgiving. I feel as if that lacks for the younger generation and they are missing out on that huge part of our history. As well as Black Friday, or should we say Black Thursday. Shopping sales start so early that people are disregarding Thanksgiving with their families and going shopping-or having to work. I don't know how to fix this, but I think us being aware of the problem is one step closer to progression.

This article is about how Sarah Palin thinks Spanish is going to take over America, and wipe out English. I don't think this will happen because we still have lots of English speaking people, and English is what is taught in schools and used in businesses. I definitely think that immigrants should learn how to speak English so they can communicate and because it's what is taught in our schools and it's the only way their children can learn. But at the same time, they shouldn't have to give up their native language because it's part of their heritage and it's important to them. Also, new languages can help enrich our culture, I just don't think they should become too dominant.

  13. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/17/opinion/how-to-help-save-the-mentally-ill-from-themselves.html
This article is about helping people who unfortunately suffer from mental illnesses through a new bill that will "improve the financing, treatment and delivery of services across the range of mental illnesses." Clearly, mental illnesses are serious illnesses, the same as cancer or diabetes, but they are not treated as such. This bill would help with a lot of things regarding mental illnesses, and I believe that it would definitely be beneficial for some form of action to take place. The bill "still requires court action and has strict criteria to limit treatment to the most seriously ill," but it is underway. "[A]ction by Congress would help keep other parents and siblings from suffering as we have." I believe that this is an important statement from a man who has suffered the loss of his son, indirectly due to an untreated mental illness. A lot of the people suffering do not seek help, but hopefully due to this new bill, some changes will take place.

This piece discusses what the author believes would happen if Donald Trump were elected president, based on what he has said while campaigning. While a bit dystopian and extreme, the author does raise good points about the violations of civil liberties that would happen in Trumps' vision for America. The comparisons to concentration camps (and in turn, though not listed in the article, American internment camps during WWII.) and Trump' ideas for how to keep Muslim citizens contained comes naturally after his comments regarding databases and markings for them. Everything that he says so relaxed and candidly about implementing just seems so disgustingly unamerican to me, or at least the ideals I believe America does and should stand for. His policies on immigration and refugees just undermine the beacon of Liberty America metaphorically stands for, and the one it literally has in the New York Harbor.

Imam Suleyman Van Ael’s idea for teaching against the radicalization towards ISIS is a good idea to me. I believe that young children learn most from school because they are taught to go there to learn. They believe most things that they learn in school because of the depiction they have of the people that they get information from. They’re told that the teacher is educated and will tell them correct things. If Van Ael teaches children at a young age to oppose radicalization, it will directly affect their thoughts and future.

This article is about Paris coming to terms with its vulnerability. The people of Paris are still recovering from the recent terrorists attacks as would be expected with a traumatic event like this.. There are more police patrolling streets and more security. Most tourists have cancelled trips and businesses are slower. In a poor, suburban area, Muslims and blacks say they feel a better sense of community and safety there than in Paris because of the skepticism.

  17. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/27/opinion/europe-the-unready.html?src=mv

This article discusses the birth and shortcomings fostered by attempts to unify Europe since World War II. Starting with the Coal and Steel Community to the European Union today, efforts to unify Europe have be an honorable attempt to bring together the continent that has been divided so far apart through wars dating back to the days of Alexander the Great and Emperor Hadrian to Hitler and Stalin. While honorable, the initiative opens it's own set of problems, some worse than what they had before. In my opinion, if a unified Europe were to ever happen, it would need to be a full measure. Rather than a coalition of countries or states, one unified government and military. These countries have too much history and division to be allowed to operate like state of the US. The peoples and cultures are too different to exist in these separate states, while trying to maintain the goals they wish to achieve that would come with being a single unified nation.

As I read this article, I was intrigued by the entire situation that the author described, which was the black tape being put on pictures of African American professors at Harvard Law School, and the author, who is one of the professors, brings an interesting point and a uniquely different perspective to the whole controversy, and given how he talks about it, it seems that he isn't completely outraged by the entire situation. He seems to look at it with a calm, collective demeanor, looking at all possibilities of the situation, even considering that what has been classified overall as a hate crime, might not be that at all. It definitely has lead me to really think about what this could all mean. Whether it be an attack on African Americans, or on the racism towards them.

  19. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/27/opinion/world-war-iii.html?ref=opinion

This article is explaining how the war with Syria is the beginnings of a World War III. It starts off with a kid asking his mom how WWI started and she says its complicated, but then explains the Austro-Hungarian Empire and how it started the war. Then the kid asks her if it could ever happen again and she say no. Well the kid brings up Syria and how it has made Russia start bombing their enemies and then the US started bombing places, then France, and then Turkey shot down a Russian plane. This article takes more of a childish approach to this war. It tells of the war as more of a story than an actual thing that's happening, which is is the only downside to writing about it like this, but some people need it spelled out to them like this or they will not be able see how bad this war is actually becoming.

This was a very brief letter but it talks about a very debatable topic. I understand that people want to be equal and I agree that girls can hike and hunt and do just as much as boys can, but girls in the BOY scouts? I don't know that this is very fair. They have their own scout organization. If they want to learn that stuff they should petition their own organization and not intrude on the principles and rules of another one.

    1. Yah know they already have boy scouts for girls, is called girl scouts... Also there's a thing called Venturing where you can do anything a boy scout does and more and guess what girls are allowed! Trust me i should know im in both Venturing and boy scouts. Venturing is meant for older people which is the reason they can do more stuff. Venturing Crews are allowed to shot pistols, go to high adventure places like Philmont, Sea Base, and Northern Tier. Yesh boy scouts can go to those three places but there are age requirements that crews don't have to deal with. So yeah if you're a girl and you want do join boy scouts, don't. Join venturing instead.

      Delete
    2. I forgot to mention that Venturing was made by people from boy scouts as a way to keep older boys in scouting, oh yeah they also added girls. Huh it's almost like they already thought of this when they made Venturing
