The Senate is dragging its feet in confirming Obama's nomination for Attorney General... Why?

In this article, the author describes the political mess that is surrounding the Senate confirmation of Loretta Lynch, President Obama’s nomination for Attorney General. The Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell is putting off the vote for her confirmation until Democrats agree to pass an anti-human-trafficking bill. Democrats have been blocking this bill because it has anti-abortion provisions in it, that Republicans argue, have been in the bill all along. The author goes on to say that Republicans have placed some of the blame on the President, as his executive action regarding immigration angered many Republican Senators. I think this is a great example of partisan politics in Washington. A bill that otherwise would have bipartisan support is being held up because of abortion, and is in turn affecting a completely unrelated nomination.

    1. I agree this is a great example of partisan politics. Republicans are refusing to confirm the attorney general for reasons that have nothing to do with her. I think they need to find some common ground or a compromise. If not, nothing will ever get done.

In this article, the author writes about the relatively new secret service director testifying before Congress Tuesday regarding recent incidents involving the secret service. The director seemed a bit in over his head as he tried to explain that a change of culture in the service would take some time. When he said that he needed time to gain respect from those working below him, Representative Chris Stewart from Utah delivered the line that would ultimately title this article, saying, “Dude, you don’t have to earn their trust. You’re their boss.” I think the recent incidents like the man who jumped the White House fence and the drunk agents described in the article are inexcusable. At the same time, I find it hard to immediately place blame on the director, as he is only a few months into his job.

Its believed that the attorney general may be "afraid" to stand up to Obama, so therefore nominating her, would be nominating Obama's policies. The Republicans do not like this because of the current immigration issue Obama is trying to squeeze through Congress.

    1. There republicans. They will see any nomination that Obama makes as a bad choice. If this is all there worried about then they will make a great choice. They aren't even talking about there qualifications. Just the fact that Obama picked them so they might be hesitant to go against him. If the situation were reversed then the democrats would do the same thing.

Also, the senate is waiting for Democrats to hold off on this human trafficking bill in order to go through with this nomination. They don't want to approve of it so in order to get there way they are waiting for democrats to uphold the bill .

This reminded me so much of the House Of Cards series. Along with the everyday political scandal. People do crazy things for power and it all seems to be hidden behind some boundary. The people usually find out about it after it is too late. The person is already out of office or they have find a way to cover it up.

    1. House of cards is one of the best shows out there. It really captures what it must be like in Washington. Everyone there has there own agenda and it's usually not the peoples agenda. However it really our fault. We look into our politicians so much that they must get good at covering things up and lying to people. At least in american we have the power to kick them out if they do something too bad. Not all countries have that luxury.

Uh Oh! Here we go again with another plan disaster. It seems no matter how hard anyone tries America will just forever be in debt. We use up more and more money each year and its a never ending cycle. There seems to be no way out of it and we just keep digging ourselves deeper and deeper down.

    1. I agree, we always seem to be digging ourselves deeper and deeper into debt. The deep cuts made here are to the poor and working class, which is most of America, It also says it will strip 16.4 million people of health insurance... Many people in today's society need this medical insurance to even be alive. This plan is 100% a disaster, i just home someone can try and fix it before it gets any worse.

    3. I believe that no county will ever get out of debt. Even if they try to raise up money, there will be people who'll not help or care. The way the U.S is getting every second more and more in debt isn't helping either. What if the government got money from the tax everyone pays? Is that not enough?

    4. I don't get how there aren't changes being made. Seems like there's always an effect to a "try" and it makes it all worse. It's crazy to realize how big of an effect money really has on everyone in America and the world. It seems as though we use money on things and turn around and never pay any of it back.. If the world had a flag, it'd be the dollar bill

This article is about having our troops leave Afghanistan. Personally, i think this would be a great idea, I understand that our troops are there to protect us, but don't they need to come home and visit their families? The article says "We dont need to be strapped to a nine-year bilateral security agreement in Afghanistan, when we have 18 trillion in debt, here at home." I very well agree with this statement, America will always have debt. but we should stop trying to raise the amount we have on something not necessarily needed.

This article is showing how far parents in India would go for their children's education. Some parent's were clambering up school building so they could pass cheat sheets threw windows for their children. In another case a parent also tied his daughter with multi-strand rope to the back of a bike so she would attend school. officials didn't do anything till social media made a big deal about it. Afterward they took the man into custody and was charged him. Parents in Bihar extremely care about their children's education. They have hope in their children to get out of poverty. Does India not have a school law policy or the educating system is horrible, that's why students don't like to attend class?

    1. I find this article rather sad. I think that it is sad that people would have to go through such extreme measures in order to better themselves. The parents are probably so worried about their kids education because in India, not unlike other nations with such high poverty levels, you are either mega smart engineer, or you are putting the plastic tips on the end of shoe laces for the rest of your life.

Times are different. And of course, everything is about technology. Nowadays, kids would rather sit in front of a tv over going outside and down the street to play kickball, or basketball. It used to be easy to let kids roam and play as they wished, but I feel like parents hear about crazy things on the streets, especially as their kids grow up, and become more and more "stingy" about them going outside.

    1. I agree with you Taylor. My mother always warned me about dangers and what not. I do feel a lot of the time young ones won't go outside and play. On the other hand, the things that are going on now I'd be be scared to let my children do certain things.

China's tradition of public shaming thrives
I fount this article very interesting. The writer seemed to disagree with china's way of making people think about what they have done. I think this is pretty amusing myself. Having to write a 600 word essay about your moral flaws and reading it in front of the whole school for cutting class Is pretty humiliating. Maybe if we did this less people would skip.

This is about a black man hanging from a tree in rural Mississippi. I hope what everyone is thinking isn't true. As of now they are investigating if this was not a suicide. Usually suicides are done near the home but this one wasn't. Hopefully the investigators will figure something out.

This article talks about how John kasich is already looking forward to the presidenti race in 2016. He is also already planning for the republican primaries. He is looking to use the economic froth of Ohio as his main argument for why he should win. I guess will have to wait for the primaries to find out.

This makes me honestly sad. To think that in our world there are places that treat women like this is just baffling. I'm my opinion make and females should be equal. But that's just me. The article went on to list some of the horrible things women have to face around the world.

Women on the face of the 20$ bill. I think this is a magnificent idea. In today's society there is still a big gender gap, women are paid less than men still. So this may help to begin to help make us closer to actually being fully equal. Furthermore I think that it's interesting how there are no women on money. I never really thought about it until now. Which I also think it's kinda of proof of how male and females aren't fully equal. It'd be perfect if we were. They said congress wouldn't have to agree on this and that not even the president would. Although he may have an opinion since they would be taking off Andrew Jackson. They'd remove him because of his actions. As we all know he did some vary questionable things during his presidency.
