Weird. Seeings how we don't look at India as this big unsafe people like we view more known countries such as America and like China. But it seems even countries that we do not count as on the top peg on the ladder is still just as bad as us. Does this mean their government is just as corrupt and self based ?
The difference is that In America we like to pretend that we would do things differently. Yes it seems like we are stuck so far in the whole that we can't get out ,but the truth is that's how like it. When our government does a good job we just find something else to complain about. Complaining is why our system works because there just words and it keeps our country stable. In other countries it is basically a dictatorship where a small group of people hold so much power and there people have become complacent because thats the way it's always. It's only when you look at it from an ousiders point of view do you realize what is really happening.
Who loves America? What a great question. Other countries want to be us. People flee their country for America and the American dream. But who actually loves America? People in America don't even love America. Foreign countries love us for our exports and the money we spend on their products. Foreign diplomats love us for the military we allow them to use and the treaties and alliances made with them that helps them in a situation. But in all actuality who really loves America?
This is a wonderful question.. And you make some great points. they don't actually love America, they love what America can do for them. A lot of people that live in America don't love America, I think this is a wonderful statement , but I think most people don't love America because they only see what the government doesn't do for them.
This article explains how, for over a year, corrections officers keep beating the inmates until they're bloody. I understand that they are inmates and they obviously had to do something bad to get to where they are, but beating them until they are covered in blood is ridiculous. The article says "It is thus deeply disturbing to learn that savage acts of violence against inmates have continued mostly unchecked since the de Blasio administration took office." I completely agree that it is disturbing , what if one of you family members was getting beat for no reason?
I just feel like this is taking advantage of your power to a pair of humans whom, yes have committed a crime and are in a position because of their actions. I don't think though a guard should have the right to physically abuse an inmate in jail just because they can, because the judicial system looks down on those inmates. I feel that to be wrong. just uncivilized, and are being more barbarian then the inmate themselves.
I agree with both of you. The inmates are already there for a reason, and they are already paying the time for there crime committed. so I don't know what the guards are thinking. They are there just to watch over them not to cause harm.
I agree with you all. Inmates have already lost many of their liberties unnecessary additional punishment shouldn't be tolerated. In cases of prison fights or rowdy behavior it may be ok but not at extreme levels where blood is seen.
this is just explains the amount that gets done in congress. if this bill doesn't get passed, then what will be made of the DHS? will we just have to run by local and state protection? this just really interested me, because it said that when the government shut down back in 2013, staff working in DHS still reported to work. does that mean that these men and women will show up to work everyday until there funds come back?
Good job Obama. You keep trying to go toe to toe with congresses and look what's happening. You got both parties so pisses off at you that it could take months to resolve this issue. If you haven't noticed there is a war on terror going on. It called the department of Homeland defense. It's job is to deal with threats of terror against our great nation. If they lose funding most of them will be forced to work for free. They will quit. The economy is improving and money is important. It will also discourage new people from coming there because is could just lose its funding. Good job elected officials. One of the most important peace keeping institutions is about to get sacked. If they get shut down they will never fully recover.
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/27/world/middleeast/more-assyrian-christians-captured-as-isis-attacks-villages-in-syria.html?ref=world This article talks about Isis and how they are now destroying ancient art. Not only are they beheading people, but they are now destroying history. They have to be stopped, this has been going on long enough.
I think that it's very selfish of them to do this. They are literally ruining anything in sight. ISIS knows that they are feared by everyone who knows about them and their belief and this is creating more and more fear. I feel as if all of the attention they draw is something that they want, in my opinion. I agree that they do need to be stopped and I hope that more action is taken.
With millions of households in America struggling for enough food, we as Americans waste $162 million dollars of food. The food waste has caused economic and environmental problems. With about 32 metric tons of food waste landfills are filling up quick. However this problem is not just limited to the United States. A report estimates that nearly a third of all food in the world made is wasted. The total cost of that food waste is between $300 Billion to $400 Billion dollars. However if we reduced food waste we could solve our malnourished issue and our economic issue and environmental problems from the waste.
ISIS the Muslim militant state has taken over Mosul, Iraq. In doing so they posted a video of a beheading. But not one of what you would think. The belligerent, barbaric, crude militant fighters entered a Iraqi museum and targeted ancient artifacts. Knocking them on the ground grabbing sledgehammers and jackhammers, they videotaped themselves destroying ancient statues and artifacts. There was additional reports that earlier in the week that ISIS had captured Mosuls central library and burnt over 8,000 rare books and manuscripts. The video was later posted on Twitter with ISIS logo on the screen showing it came from their media branch. The UN commented on their acts calling it "cultural cleansing".
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/20/opinion/egypts-crisis-across-the-border-with-libya.html I feel that this whole situation with ISIS is really stressful. There is all these tensions growing between religions in the middle east, ISIS' persistence, and countries as well as the UN, trying to stay out of things, although they may be doing their best. It's obvious that something needs to be done, but it is now clear that there is no simple answer. Unfortunately, things are pretty complicated and will call for a complex solution. Hopefully we can start with stabilizing Libya.
I completely agree. The uneducated answer to ISIS seems to be to blow them off of the face of the earth with pure military might. Just as you said, it is much more complicated than that. World leaders must be decisive, but very careful as they tackle this growing problem. For now, the airstrike approach that so many countries use seems to be the most effective method of fighting ISIS, while still staying out of the war.
I agree, it sounds like a good idea to attack by air. ISIS is obviously quite a threat to the United States. With things like this, there's still a ton of room for surprises, and I'm waiting on something big. In order to keep anything "big" from happening, we have to go "big" at them first, and I don't believe that we have yet
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/27/opinion/north-koreas-nuclear-expansion.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss This article discusses North Korea and their nuclear expansion. It says " the United States and five other major powers are negotiating an agreement that would constrain the nuclear program in Iran, which does not possess any nuclear weapons." Hopefully we take action and this problem becomes solved. They are upset about "The Interview" and hopefully they didn't take it as seriously as I assume they did.
http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/02/27/ted-cruz-and-jeb-bush-on-pot/?ref=opinion In this article, the author attacks the Republican position on the legalization of marijuana, describing the potential hypocrisy of Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz’s position. Both of these Republicans have recently come out championing a federalist approach to this issue, leaving it up to the states to decide. The author, who is very obviously pro-marijuana, is upset that these lawmakers, very much against the drug’s legalization, would seemingly contradict their own beliefs. While I acknowledge this could be for political reasons, I respect the idea to give a controversial issue such as this over to the states. If this were to occur, I wonder if other issues, such as gay marriage, could ever be left up for the states to decide.
This is mind blowing and I suggest you read the article for yourself to get all the full details. The author is definitely biased, however. Basically, Dan Fisher, a state representative from Oklahoma believes that advanced courses of history teach students too much of the bad things about America and he is trying to pass an "emergency bill" to ban AP History. He, and other Republicans also would like to see more of the Bible in schools. The author says, "But the only thing worse than history written by educators on Ambien is history dictated by politicians on ideological binges. Add religion to the mix, and you have something like the history that theocratic states, e.g. Iran, might teach their kids." I absolutely agree with the author. I understand we all have our own ideologies, and some of mine are probably outrageous to others. But people can't actually believe this nut case, can they? Luckily he is mocked and ridiculed by those of his own state.
The obvious question here..? Why haven't these networs shut these pages down? First of all, and also the biggest argument I agree with in this article is that terrorists shouldn't get the right of free speech as we do as citizens. Talking about killing our president should "disqualify" you from the protections of the constitution, in my opinion and also the author's. And it also makes sense that certain intelligence would be lost if they were to shut these profiles down, but honestly? I think it's worth the shut off.
http://www.politico.com/story/2015/02/barack-obama-john-boehner-immigration-reform-115528.html This article basically just shows Obamas response to some of his fellow politicians. I hope that he does find a way to make immigrants able to stay here legally. From what it looks like he truly does care for them and want to actually do something. He says it's great they want to become American. He also said Calling them ‘illegal’ is unkind and it misstates who they are, and it stigmatizes them we shouldn't call people illegal and things of that nature because of how demeaning and discriminating it is. I completely agree with him. We at the end of the day are all humans who inhabit this earth and we should see each other equally and not just let the simple fact we were born in a different pice of land make us feel we are different. So all in all I hope Obama does find a way to get positive things done about immigration.
I agree with you Jon. I hope that ISIS is stopped soon. Although I think it all be complicated. Like we can't just attack then immediately due to the fast that it'll cause war. So that may be a likely reason as to why Obama hasn't done much I'm respect to ISIS because it can cause more problems than there already is. They need a smart plan and hopefully get other nation to get with the plan
http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/rubio-blasts-isis-strategy-he-supports This article is about Marco Rubios opinion on how Obama has dealt with ISIS. He from what the article shows isn't a fan of Obamas work. He criticizes him a lot and shows that he doesn't agree with it. He says he feels as Obama hasn't done enough and he should try and ISIS more. He also says Obama hasn't done anything because he doesn't want to upset Iran. Although the article made a counter argument saying that in fact ISIS and Iran are enemies and Rubios idea of how to stop ISIS is nearly identical to Obamas plan. Although throughout of this all I can say is that I hope we find a good way to stop ISIS and fast. They seam to not be planning on stopping spreading hate anytime soon. So the faster we stop them the better.
