Amen!! This whole ISIS situation is a big struggle not only for Iraq , America and many other countries . Obama seems to be having quite a difficult time trying to figure out the best plan of action. And as the picture shows ISIS is a ticking time bomb. The ISIS situation could be in America in a matter of time. It could be knocking at our back door any day. The government needs to get a hold on things soon and take a plan of action.

    1. the picture is basically what Asia said. Obama has been put in a corner in how to attack this ISIS situation its been tough. hes tried to go around it plenty of times, but sooner or later. its going to come back even harder with a nastier bite then the last. its a tough thing to think upon but obama has to think alittle quicker on what he's going to do. its a matter of time before something real goes down.

This may be slightly unconventional but gets the point across very well. Everyone in our governmental system seems to be stepping back and watching chaos take over. When will our government step up and do what they are meant to do. They seem to be spending all their time fighting each other rather than fighting for us and our country.

While I normally disagree with government regulation as is described in this article, net neutrality is a serious issue that needs government interference. At its core, net neutrality means that no internet service provider (Time Warner Cable, AT&T U-Verse, etc.) can favor certain content over other content. For example, if ISP’s get their way, they could give content sources such as Netflix, Hulu or YouTube faster streaming speeds if they pay a fee. This would crush up and coming startup companies in this industry that could not afford to pay these fees, as they would drown in slow connections and long buffer times. President Obama is recommending that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) views the internet as a utility, thus allowing it to ban these potential internet “fast lanes.”

    1. The internet is now an integrated part of our life. We shouldn't be trying to limit or favor certain parties on the internet. Thats how it all starts. First you favor one website over another. Next you have to pay a tax to view websites. Then your have to pay an extra 5% of your income in a federal income tax so they can regulate it. Regulating the internet will not be an easy thing. The government needs to get there hands out of it except when dealing with those companies directly when these error occur. However once the government gets there hands in something it will never come out so they need to play a very limited roll.

In this article, the author, a Democrat, writes about the overwhelming defeat the Democrats had the hands of the Republicans this past Tuesday. She writes that one of the largest problems the party faced this past election was that much of the demographic that typically votes Democrat voted Republican because of the economy. Women in particular seemed very worried about the state of the economy, voting in large numbers for the Republicans. She points to the Presidential race of 2016 as the next time the Democrats have a chance of regaining any ground. While I agree with this, I believe the Republicans will at least begin with the upper hand in the upcoming election, as the approval rating of President Obama has been less than stellar. The Democrat candidate will have to be able to distance himself/herself from Obama, while still maintaining a strong liberal platform.

now usually im a sucker for competitive stuff. i find this whole "peace, work together" nonsense interesting. the reality of it is. the US and China will always be competing to be the top economic country. dont get me wrong im happy the US and China have decided to cut down the green house carbon smoke and such to better the climate change. i see what theyre trying to do. i like that they've made a pact of some sort to battle this thing out. but in the end, China and the US will always be like they were; two countries fighting to be on top.

This cartoon takes place on a stage, and Uncle Sam, who is the announcer says, "And now on our stage, a lame duck will attempt to stop a charging Elephant!" the elephant is labeled GOP, so basically Republicans, and the lame duck is referring to President Obama. This is whole cartoon is referring to Congress who is now dominantly Republican, which makes this cartoon funny. I think this metaphor is pretty accurate.

    1. I agree, this is actually pretty hilarious and very well accurate. It is pretty funny how a cartoon can show so much. With congress now be dominantly Republic, i think there will be a lot of changes occurring in our government. I don't know how this will effect us, but hopefully it is more of a positive outcome.

    2. That sounds about right. It's going to be interesting how the rest of the term is going to play out. I think since both houses are in Republican there will be less gridlock.

In this article the author talks about how voter turnout was so low. The average percentage of people who voted in the US was 36.3. the reason they claim is that a lot of the campaigns were so negative. All the Republicans campaigned about was their dislike of Obama and the Democrats were too afraid of backlash to put forward anything significant. I would definitely agree with this. I feel, not even being a voter, that the parties didn't really give us anything to vote for, their campaigns didn't stand for anything. The author also goes to say that voting needs to be made easier. It has proven that it increases voter turnout, and voting is the only way to balance out the influence of wealthy special interests. All of that, I feel is very true.

  8. Egypts restive Sinai peninsula has been in a major surge of militants and jihadists and military uprising. But today five police/soldiers of Egypt were killed by Ansar Beit a Muslim military group. The group is known to be allies of the controversial jihadist group ISIS. The Egyptian police/military is unsure whether or not Ansar Beit actually performed this or if they are just taking claim to a act of violence that wasn't actually done by them.

  9. The UN today has brought up the issue about poppy cultivation hitting record high. Even though Afghan has led a thirteen year long campaign against the cultivation of poppy (poppy is the root of the opiate drug heroin). With about a half a million acres of poppy plants in Afghanistan the country could go into a narco state with withdrawal of US and Allie forces.

    1. What I feel people fail to realize about this is that poppy has more legal uses than illegal uses. While the more profitable side is herion it is used widely throughout the medical field. It is a very important plant. But there obviously need to be more regulations on this because it is becoming an epidemic

This article shows that the government doesn't really care about the safety of others, it shows that they just care about the money they can make. The article says "produce more coal, avoid the costs of following safety laws, and make more money.” This honestly upsets me and makes me think that the government isn't what we make it out to be. I feel like this is one of the reasons america has lost trust in the government. I feel sorry for the family members of the 29 coal members, that lost their lives for the government.

  11. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/15/opinion/gail-collins-congress-extends-itself.html?ref=opinion&_r=0

This article talks about how congress wants to extend temporary tax exemptions and make them permanent. If you haven't noticed we owe a lot of money to other countries and this is just one of the reasons why. If we make these exemptions permanent then there is more money that congress isn't getting to pay our bills. Tax exemptions to the average person just sound like free money to most people ,but in reality it is just unearned revenue in the eyes of the federal reserve. It also states that republicans and democrats will work together to reform the tax code. Yah right. The lame duck congress can just stall until the new republicans are sworn in. The next version of the tax code will be heavily republican based with the president signing it because he encouraged party corporation. If he doesn't go with it he and his party will look bad in the eyes of the people.

    The fate of Medicaid expansion
I liked this article because it relates to what we were talking about in class this week about the midterm elections and the Republicans trying to change Obamacare. The Republicans obviously oppose this expansion and are going to try to change it.

This is about how the houses are passing the Keystone pipeline. President Obama is most likely to veto it. The pipeline would definitely help create jobs and make us more independent of foreign nations when it comes to oil. Although it has some benefits, is it worth the negative environmental effect? I'm split on the situation, what do you guys think?

I think Congress would much rather save themselves with this tax extension in order to put a hold on their current situations, although the Republicans seem to be going somewhere with their idea. They want to cut the overall taxing of 39% to 25%, although with the possibilities of unfunded school programs and many other federal funded programs, I agree. Maybe not as drastic, but I think with at least a minimum cut, it could continuously decrease and eventually bring it down to a good 35%. The article spoke of, if Republicans took control over most of the senate, which they achieved, we could see the possibilities of a tax cut in the future.

This article informs readers that the second enrollment period for buying health care insurance under the law begins Saturday. Barack Obama is going to face a new test to this affordable health care act. I believe free health care shouldn't be mandatory. People should choose wether or not they want health care.

  17. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/11/15/us/politics/obama-climate-change-fund-3-billion-announcement.html

This article is about The U.S giving money to poor countries in order for them to combat effects of the climate change. I believe it is a very good idea that countries are starting to see the climate change as a problem and are attempting to do what is possible to minimize those effects. "6 to 28 percent from 2005 levels by 2025" this is what the president thinks that they will cut emission levels to. Although it seems very small it, it is better than nothing. At the end if the day it all adds up so it will have a positive effect. It also spoke about Wednesdays meeting with China. Here the U.S and China both agreed on cutting down emission levels. China being very polluted would benefit from the country going greener. Many people may get sick due to the pollution so as a result of there being less pollution less people will get ill. So this will work out for their government. All in all I think it's great that maybe U.S is going to help out smaller countries to fight back against pollution because at the end of the day we are one world and we all need to come together to help keep it healthy.

This starts out by saying that we don't have any idea what action Obama is going to take. Although they do know it is coming before the end of the year. He is going to take action on his hand due to him believing that Congress hasn't done any usual reforms and he want ago do something. Basically what many believe will happen is that he will grant permission to parents who have a child of the United States will be granted permission to stay and work here legally. They will although need to have been here for a least five years. That brings the effected population to 3.4 million and with a ten year demand it brings it down to 2.6 million people. Although the next president may be able to undo this and restart deportations. I pray that some action will be taken place to aid illegal aliens. This is because most come in hope of a better future for themselves as well as their families. They come to work and give their children a better life than what they did. It'll also stop separating families. Which I'm my opinion is very cruel to those people. Although the republican seam to not agree with Obama. Threats of impeachment have even bean thrown out. It could potentially cause a government shut down. I'm conclusion I dearly hope that Obama will find a way to help out illegal immigrants to be able to stay here legally so that they don't have to worry about deportation and so families won't have to be separated and can stay together and happy.

    1. I agree with Jonathan, Even if I wasn't Hispanic I'll still understand that there's people who need this opportunity Obama is giving them. Just because someone is in good circumstances doesn't mean the rest of the world is as well. Also if Obama were to deport million of Hispanics many families will tear apart and would be difficult to see each other but the same time they have a need, that is why they still remain here. Honestly I won't get the point of Obama giving Hispanics permission now and then another president changing the rules later. They don't have to become legal but with having the permission to work in the U.S would be enough. Most people just want the opportunity to work and have the money to put food in the table for their family. Where in their country would be much harder because of all the bad conditions .

The top political cartoon not only speaks for that certain issue, but for the beauacracy all around. It seems like, as talked about before, they feel they have much more authority or that they hold the most power. In this photo it is speaking for that prediction, that any normal guy can be seen as a threat, and by the way the cop if in uniform it seems as if he feels he needs to protect himself. As the officer said he needed to be here, I think that was the beauacracy saying there mindset of how much power they hold in society allows them to do as they please, even if nothing pursues it.

This article informs readers that change to immigration could be coming soon and the newly republican controlled congress can't do anything about it. President Obama said he will "that he will take unilateral action to overhaul the nation’s immigration system." The republicans can either work with him and get something done or just disagree with everything president Obama does.
