http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/02/opinion/frank-bruni-obamas-messy-words.html?ref=opinion&_r=0 I found this article to be very insightful on Obama and his plan for things. By him saying he doesn't have a strategy for what is going on is Syria, I found it to be very alarming. He is the president of the United States and yet he does not have a plan? Does he do the same thing for his own country ? Aren't there people on his payroll for coming up with a plan of action? Welcome to America folks. It is going to be all down hill for here.
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/02/opinion/ways-to-reduce-the-kidney-shortage.html?ref=opinion This article I found to be quite interesting. Their plan for getting kidneys I find to be a very good idea. Instead of so many organs going to waste , buried six feet down in a coffin, they are simply wanting to take them and use them on people that are waiting for a transplant. We could save hundreds upon thousands of lives every year if this idea pulls through. Do we sacrifice peoples right of choice for save another persons life or does that person die?
I agree that this idea could work very well. But we also need to keep in mind people's believes. Religion is a huge factor in people's everyday lives and say they didn't want to donate because of there religion is against it should we still do it? This is the flaw I see people could take serious offense to this action and try and cause a protest to end it because it was against there religion.
I totally agree with you on this issue. Why waste a valuable organ if you can use it to save or better ones life. Although this is a great idea, we must accept other religions and beliefs on transplants. We are limited to usable organs by state ID 's and waiting responses by the family. I have no problem donating an organ and hope it improves a person life.
i very much agree on this. i think organ transplants and finding organ donors is rough and losing the lives by the 1,000's due to the lack of kidney donors. I'm also glad to see the people receive a fighting chance. Having the medicare help pay for the antirejection drugs to the patients after their transplant.
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/03/opinion/finlands-lesson-for-ukraine.html?ref=opinion This article is about the best strategy Ukraine can take politically to fight the Russian invasion. The author writes that Finland, a country that borders Russia, has had little trouble with Russia over the course of history. Finland has done this by staying up to date with defense systems and strategy, as well as aligning itself with western powers. The author praises Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko for doing these same things in recent years. I agree with this article because Russia now has less incentive to invade Eastern Ukraine. The territories Russia controls are unlikely to be profitable, causing Russia nothing but economic stress, something it cannot afford with the current sanctions it is already facing.

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/03/opinion/isis-antiquities-sideline.html?ref=opinion This article provides a unique argument against the destruction of historic Syrian antiques by ISIS. Reading this article, I expected the author to write that the antique trade ISIS is controlling is a travesty to the cultural heritage and history of Syria. Instead, the author’s largest arguments regarding stopping this antique trade are that it is a source of income for terrorists and that protecting Syria’s past would help its future. The author’s rationale is that Syria’s cultural heritage is so strong, that the destruction of these items would make it that much harder to unite Syria across religious and political grounds. Do these logical arguments provide the grounds for outside intervention in this problem?
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/03/opinion/isis-antiquities-sideline.html?ref=opinion): Interesting, I think that's a good question. Not knowing much about foreign affairs, I would say that it would be nice to help another country in need. But I do know that ISIS is pretty dangerous and Syria has been having some problems so it might just be good if they were given some space. Just so nothing bad happens to them or other countries. So, although the argument is logical, I don't think it provides grounds for outside intervention, unless the problem persists.
This article is a huge step up for the following generations. With these pre kindergarten classes it gives not only the children but parents a chance of success. These kids will learn more on how to work with others and preparation for what is to come in their following years. Also the fact that this new pre kindergarten system is free to all citizens it helps the children who need it get the opportunity to have it. I think since 300 million dollars has been given towards this new program that the rest of America sees the significance of it as well. With the expected progress, there will probably be more of these free classes given nationwide. Also with new programs to more than 70,000 middle schoolers I predict there could be an uprise to more graduating students throughout the years. Mayor De Blasio proves his hands on mission to re create the education system.
I believe that this action would not be so beneficial in Obamas case. Showing how he shows more intention to what the effect would impact him rather than the population. When the population would greatly impact it in a positive way. Getting rid of any one that is illegal in this country where they don't belong and take benefit from everyone that lives in it.
I found this article very interesting. President Obama would like to raise the national minimum wage to $10.10 . I think this would be great! Especially in places that have a price of living like the east coast states and California. I found that the map on the article was interesting. For many of the southern agrarian states the minimum wage was well under the current national average. Hopefully this wage increase will match better with inflation and curve some disadvantaged communities.
I feel like that rising the minimum wage to $10.10 would be beneficial to us as individuals. Yet we don't recognize what it would do to the economy and what all would change. As President Obama sis trying to appease his people to what they want. not realizing it's effects. Which keeping your people happy is a part of your role as a president.
I am so glad that you mentioned that. Raising the national minimum wage would allow people to have have extra money to buy things that they normally wouldn't. This increase in buying extra goods would stimulate growth in businesses thus the economy. This pay increase may give a break on sociall dependentcy like welfare.
I don't think people realize that raising the national minimum wage is just a temporary solution that makes the problem worse. With so many people affected by the raise by by increasing the minimum wage your also increasing the cost of living. When the cost of living catches up to the minimum wage our elected officials usually raise minimum wage because the every day person sees it as the government giving us more money. Minimum wage was meant for working teenagers not people trying to live off of it. If this continues we are going to approach supper inflation where the value of the American dollar will become worthless. It will become like the german mark after WW1 were you just saw people with buckets of money just to buy a loaf of bread. The higher the minimum wage is raised the more inflation takes its coarse.
I agree that raising minimum wage would cause inflation. Another view of this argument is that people are paying thousands of dollars for a college education which is the new "norm". By raising this hourly rate, prices for everything else will go up so the question is what good would it do? We would end up back where we are and will just want more raises. I believe we should stay where we're at so that another recession doesn't occur.
I agree Heidi. While I would like a raise I do not think it is the best thing for this economy. The solution to lowering inflation is not to dump millions of dollars into people's pockets. Not to mention the stress it would put on companies having to pay their employees more. That just means they raise the prices higher.
I also agree with Heidi, Andrew, and Jonathan. Raising the minimum wage would just cause inflation. While it might look good for people who have minimum wage jobs at the moment, they don't realize the price of everything would go up also. Minimum wage jobs pay minimum wage for a reason. If they deserve more money, why don't other jobs deserve more money too?
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/05/opinion/indias-sanitation-needs.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&_r=0 This opinion editorial is very eye opening. Living in the US, we have easy access to drinking water and toilets therefore we don't realize the role that these simple things play in our lives. The government in India hopefully will keep up with the national cleanliness campaign so that India can become a cleaner place with less spread of disease.
I agree with the fact that we have easy access to drinking water and toilets because everyone needs water to stay alive and also the access to toilets to be able to do your business. Through a athletes eyes, without water for all the athletes in the world, they be dehydrated and pass out all the time and that’s not good for our bodies. When it comes to the toilets, everyone needs access to the toilets so no one would have to use the toilet in the streets and cause more difficulties then we have already. It will cause a problem and it may get everyone sick. Consequently, if everyone gets sick, we don’t have enough medicine to cure everyone.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/04/opinion/bergmark-minors-central-america-lawyers/index.html?hpt=op_bn6 This opinion editorial is unbelieveable because since October, more than 63,000 children have crossed the border into the United States. Obamas administration has accelerated the hearings and more children will be deported in the next few months. As of right now, no one is reprsenting these childrens and if no one does soon, more children will have to face the hearing alone.
I agree with you that it is unbelieveable. In my opinion all of the children who have to go to court should recieve some sort of lawyer to assist them in doing so. I think it is wonderful that they are starting programs to help them out get lawyers for their cases. While on the other hand i dislike the fact that they are pushing the date of their court days forward making it harder for them to get help. In the article it staits their chances of getting help is mostly based on if they have representation. So i believe this is more of a reason for them to give the children assistance in getting representation. The last sentece says justice is for all not only those who can afford it . ReplyDeleteIts obvious that the only reason Obama is waiting until after election to do something about reducing deportation, is to save himself. He predicts that majority will rule out and most people believe in deportation, especially the republicans. But despite what may happen, GutiƩrrez explains that a true democratic, as Obama, should make the right choice and step up to the plate and change things. I think it isn't right that Obama rather do himself a favor than to help others, he just doesn't want this issue to effect polls. After seeing what happened to Eric Canton, Obama knows this issue could result in a loss.
