  1. http://money.cnn.com/2014/04/28/news/economy/states-minimum-wage/index.html?hpt=po_c1 I previously discussed how our minimum wage would be increasing. It has been said that Congress will not raise minimum wage anytime soon. Currently, workers covered under the Fair Labor and Standards Act must be paid at least $7.25. The senate will be taking on the bill to increase the minimum wage to $10.10. Although I previously stated that they should raise it as soon as possible, I think that inflation will occur anyway, taking us back to square one.

    1. I agree as well. Low paying jobs are just starter jobs for many young people to build certain skills they will need later on in the work place. Increasing the minimum wage so much would make people stay on longer for those jobs and there wouldn't really be any opportunities for younger people to be hired.

Minimum wage hikes don't cause inflation to the degree you're thinking of, in fact the rate of inflation as a result of raising minimum wage is minuscule.
Minimum wage needs to be raised, and thank some deity that it is going up again.

    3. I still think this is sooooooo dumb. Its going to hurt us in the long run. Yeah it will be super nice at first but its going to hurt us.Everything else is going to go up and then that could the US to go into another recession, which is not something we need or want.

    4. if we get this insane boost of cost, workers are just going to be let go because of increased worker pay. Less people working are just going to cause more problems. They will cut people to keep the cost of goods lower. Then inflation will occur, so jobless people will have to pay more with money they dont have. We will then see a rise of unemployment which taxpayers help pay. so no one wins with this drastic raise

    5. I still believe this wouldn't end up helping us. Yeah we will be getting paid more but then again im pretty sure prices on everything else will increase just as much. I dont think increasing minimum pay will help us much at all. It may even end up hurting us more then helping.

    6. Even with inflation, there has already been some making minimum wage less than it's worth. Hence, I think raising it is a good idea just to break even, not because it is deserved. The standards we have set in the past should stick, even with a rapidly evolving economy, these standards need to be dynamic enough to adapt.

  2. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2014/04/29/republicans-pass-tax-breaks-but-dont-pay-for-them/?hpt=po_c1 This article discusses the Republicans decision to make six tax breaks over the next ten years, costing 310 billion dollars. Congress has continued breaks year after year without offsetting their costs. They are wanting this permanent change, but its not being paid for. I'm not sure of my opinion on this because there is not a lot of information to go off of, but I think that is a lot of money to be considered for a short amount of time.

    1. I think that Congress needs to slow down with all of the money it has been using up. They were already shut down this year because of the debt ceiling. They keep using all of this money for something that just doesn't fit with our society today. They need to think of something else or don't use the money at all.

    2. Congress is not being held responsible for the money they spend. People would never be allowed to run their household budget this way. We have to balance the money we have coming in to the bills we have.j We can't go out and buy a new car and then decide to work less and make less money. This is what Congress is trying to do and then sell it to the people as a good deal since it will lower your taxes.Maybe they should pass a law that says if there is no balanced budget passed all sitting Congress members would be ineligible for reelection. That would force them to make real decisions instead of just ones that are popular in the short term.

    3. I think Congress should definitely slow down on the spending of any kind of money at this point. The United States is already in debt so spending more money that we don't have isn't in any way shape or form benefiting.

      Delete
    4. Congress should be the ones responsible for all the money they've spent. I also think congress should slow it down because we are already in debt, eventaully were gonna run out of money. Lowering taxes might be nice but were already in debt so much,

      Delete
    5. I think there needs to be a huge economic reform in regards to our government and how it handles money. We are in debt, creating debt, and there can only be so much until it starts to break down. If we don't cut spending and gaining money revenue to cut down the debt, the economy will be headed for a great fall. We can already start seeing it with the government shutdowns.

    6. If anything there should be a tax increase, we need more money in our government not less. But with the new taxes they would need to cut spending as well they can't go on spending and giving out tax breaks without huge backlash, eventually we will hit the ground.

  3. Could we get another Clinton in office? maybe. Florida is supporting lady clinton like crazy. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2014/05/01/2016-poll-clinton-tops-bush-in-key-state/?hpt=po_c2 I think the race is basically going to be Bush and Clinton which it actually kinda funny because that is not a first.

    1. I really want to have another Clinton in office. She would make an amazing President and it would honestly be a blessing for our country NOT to have another Bush... Like, no... I am so happy that Florida is supporting Hilary and I hope that soon the whole country will be supporting her, as well! :)

    2. we are a Clinton nation. once a Clinton, always a Clinton. She would defiantly be the better choice over another Bush. With Hilary i feel like many things under Bills administration could come back, which i feel would better out country. If she can do what Bill did, then we could get this debt under control and things on the right track,

  4. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/05/01/top-republican-challenges-intelligence-official-benghazi-testimony/

This is another example of how our government keeps getting caught in lies and why it is increasingly hard for the American people to trust our elected officials. It seems like we will never get the full story of the Benghazi attacks since no one is able to gather all the facts and stories keep changing based on what investigators find hidden away in memos and emails. Instead of accepting responsibility for when something goes wrong our politicians play the blame game like kids who broke a window. It is interesting that Sen McKeon tries to tell a senior military officer who was in a command center monitoring the action that the officer does not know what was going on.

    1. No matter what the government will never tell you the full story of anything. They always give you snip bits of situation to let you know what is going on to try and protect but if we as American citizens don't know everything that is going on we are mislead and kept in the dark

      Delete
    2. Government will never tell the whole truth, I honestly think its just sad that they can't tell the full story. They give us some information but not all. Politicians need to take responsibility for this. I understand why citizens dont trust our government and i don't blame them.

  5. http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/lethal-injection/obama-botched-execution-deeply-troubling-n95746
After the botched execution in Oklahoma, President Obama is beginning to question the death penalty. It's a hard fought topic to determine whether the death penalty is correct or not. Everyone should be allowed to have life but I do understand that some peoples crimes are so insaine it is better to not have them out on the streets. The other problem I have is how they keep death row inmates on death row for years. They are living free in a prison for years off of our money just to die. If our nation allows the death penalty the penalty should come in a short amount of time after the ruling of death.

    1. I kind of agree with your last sentence. It is ridiculous that we are paying for inmates who are on death row to live comfortably, in addition to people who are given life in prison... No, I do not think that they should all be put to death and I do think that it is okay to wait awhile before going through with the death sentence, in case there is evidence recovered that could prove them innocent, which isn't likely, but could happen. This is just a really touchy subject and there is no right way to go unless you pick strictly morals or not.

      Delete
    2. I agree with you both. Why should we pay for them to live nicely and while some of us can't even afford to try to live some what decent. But if they are on death row, I think the last supper and whatever else they get is okay. Its the last thing they will ever eat and I think its okay to do something nice like that but not their living situations.

    3. Despite this article I still agree that we need to keep the death penalty in action, although i do think that it should be improved upon. We should not give people on death role sit in jail for years before they are executed. We shouldnt be wasting tax payers money on feeding and housing the worst of criminals, they should be put to death within weeks of conviction.

Warnings Warnings Warnings are all we are giving Russia now after their take over of Crimea. Obama has sent another set of warnings to Russia that if they disrupt the upcoming Ukrainian elections they will face more sanctions. While I'm fully approving staying away from going to war, I'm still not sure if sanctions alone could stop Russia with their bada** leader Putin who could be insaine and start a war when ever he wants to.

    1. I think the US is ridiculous when it comes to things like this. Sure, Russia isn't receiving some supplies from the US, but this would just show Russia that they aren't dependent on the US. The US is not the only supplier in the world of whatever we are not giving them anymore. It's not like it's WWII and they're Japan. I really don't think sanctions are going to help anything here. It'll just increase the tension between us and Russia.

      Delete
    2. I think that all of these warnings will just end up ticking off Russia more and more. Putin sees all of the warnings that Obama puts out and he still continues to do what Putin does. Since he has not listened to the warnings there is a chance that if there are too many "warnings" sent out, war might be an outcome. War would not be the best thing right now.

      Delete
    3. Like Jason said Putin does see the warnings Obama is putting out there. The way i see it is that all these warnings are just provoking Putin in a way. Its like those "Do not touch" signs, tell me you don't have the huge urge of touching the item. This is what i believe Putin feels like. Also sanctions are going to get to Russia even if the US doesnt supply them, there are many more suppliers.

      Delete
    4. I think we need to completely stay out of this situation. I agree, I think the warning and the continuous sanctions are just making Putin mad and want to continue doing what he wants just to show the U.S. he can. We need to go back to focusing more on our own problems in the economy and with our government. We are not entitled to police the whole world and we shouldnt try to. There are too many problems on our homeland to be worrying about other countries.

      Delete
    5. Stopping sanctions is as far as I would ever take the issues between Russia and Ukraine, we shouldn't push any harder. Or apply very much more pressure onto them. Stopping sanctions is a good way to say we disprove of what you are doing without causing any problems usually.

  7. http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/botched-execution-oklahoma-raises-questions-lethal-injections-death-penalty/

This article, or well really interview, discusses the legality of lethal injection after an Oklahoma man was still alive for a cruel amount of time after being injected with the untested drugs. After nine minutes of being injected, the man was still able to lift his head and shoulders from the table. The federal government requires states to humanely inject a human with something that is effective in killing them. However, they are not required to test the injection. But whatever. Personally, I think we should just bring back the firing squad!

    1. I feel that if a person has committed something like murder, it should not matter how they die. This man that they talk about in the interview murdered another human being and then buries her. They say that in order for the death penalty, it should be humane, well if someone does something this horrible, it should not matter how humane their death is. The man took another human being away in an inhumane way, why should his death be humane?
