Here's the thing I know from having a huge interest French culture-- living in France has almost always been expensive, especially metro areas in Paris (it's the world's most expensive city). It's so not uncommon to see the homeless in the streets in any city of France, in fact, squatting (seeking asylum in abandoned buildings) is perfectly legal and has been a part of France's artistic revival. I'm really into French culture and it actually makes me sad that such an extremist state of welfare is sucking the life out of its citizens. NE MEURT PAS FRANCE!!!. :(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBQ-IoHfimQ Very interesting video that really puts into perspective what war can do to a child. It's often that we find that we don't care about the issues of others because it's not happening before our eyes-- and I've noticed that far too often with my peers. Apathy is the death of humanity, if anyone's asking. Now, I'm not trying to stray away from the core of what these blog posts are about and I suppose a hardy "oops" if I do, but I think that this gives myself a better perspective of what goes on in war-stricken countries, and who they effect but without the annoying cries of "BUT THE CHILDREN!".
http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/31/us/new-mexico-protest-police/index.html I've never laughed out loud so hard about an article until this one. It discusses how a twelve hour protest occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico against the brutal death of James M. Boyd, a homeless man. I agree that the citizens have freedom of speech and the right to protest, but the way it was controlled by the police was...interesting. One officer was "spat on and hit with a rock" and another was "trapped in a patrol car." Aren't the police the ones with the weapons? #bullies
That video was sooooo funny Amanda! I think that people today and alot of teenagers feel like the police are powerless and cant control them and some police feel that way too and that is scary to think of what our world will become with people not obeying authority and just doing what they please. withouth authority we have nothing to keep society running smoothly because we have those people that dont want to follow the rules.
You guys think that people protesting the death of a homeless man in Albuquerque is funny? I'm suddenly less offended over your distaste for Zach Galifianakis.
I did not intend to make it sound like I was making fun of the man or the protesting. My intentions were to show sarcasm towards how the government and police tried to control the situation and intervene on freedom of speech and the right to protest. I did not mean for it to come off that way and I apologize for not being more clear.
I think that this is the American culture showing true at its finest. We have a right to question these institutions, as well as a right to protest things that we see unfit, and unfair. This reconstitutes some of my former beliefs on the American people as a whole, and actually brings forth new hope for me, to see such a demonstration. We need to not stand down in this time of citizen acceptance where we get ordered around by the government we should stand up for our freedom.
This is kind-of ironic if you think about it. A man is wrongfully killed by the police in New Mexico, so the citizens there protest his death and attribute it to random police violence. The police then in turn are terrorized by the protesters, who are acting like the police themselves, turning a calm situation into a violent one.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/03/31/after-four-year-countdown-no-ignition-for-obamacare/ Today is the last day to sign up for ObamaCare. There has been countless failures and government maintenance on the website today making it somewhat impossible for many to sign up. I think this program puts too much pressure on citizens to do what the government wants, almost in a dictatorship manor. It's a free country, and many can't afford it anyway, so why are we stressing this so much? Obama has a over two years left and things will change with a new representative.
Amanda you make a great point that many cant afford the obama care but i can see that he wants it to help people, and that the country wouild be stronger with everyone having healthcare, but some people prefer to pay for things theirself. You said that Obama only had over 2 years in office, that is true but as record shows, the effect of a president doesnt show until they are out of office for a few years. so once obama leaves and its a new president we will see if Obama care helped us or not.
You both make great points. Many people can't afford nor do they want it. I do think that when we get a new president it will just go away. The website has also made it harder, so even if people wanted it, its hard for them to get it.
I agree that this is too much for citizens. They are being forced to sign up for Obamacare when they don't need nor want it. It costs a pretty penny, which some people don't have. The website is once again failing and malfunctioning. The government needs to get everything in order and fix the problems related to Obamacare.
I still don’t get why people are being forced to get Obama care or why it is so hard for the government to keep a website up and running. If you’re going to force someone to do something you should at least keep the website up and make sure that what you want done gets done and not put them at a disposition.
It is ridiculous to have a fee for not signing up, like yeah give people a choice to sign up to this bankruptcy inducing program, but don't tell them they have to get government health care. It's basically telling people hey, I don't care what kind of feelings you have towards getting aid from the government were gonna make you or charge you one percent of your total income, than make that number go up annually.
they are making obama care, a health insurance seem more like a tax than something to help people.A person with basic programming, can get a site in working and they have had more than enough time to do so. He could have done things right, but instead he rushed things out and wasn't able to deliver.
Totally agree with Curtis. This is a government welfare program that has gone out of control. The program was not well thought out and was pushed through before the consequences were really know. People are having to pay more for coverage and getting less benefits. And companies are reducing the hours of their part time employees so they do not have to pay benefits based on the new law.
What I find very interesting is to hear that most of the premiums offered by Obama-Care are higher than those offered before the introduction of Obama-Care. Makes you wonder, was the intent of creating Obama-Care to truly "help" American citizens, or is it just more money to go into Uncle Sam's pocket?
http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/fort-hood-shooting/fbi-says-no-record-anything-fort-hood-shooter-n71106 Wednesday there was a terrible shooting at Fort Hood in Texas. The gun man is proclaimed to be Army Spc. Ivan Lopez. When looking into his files they found nothing. A federal law enforcement official said the had "no record of anything." They are still analyzing his computer and e-mails for insight to the shooting. Other sources say that Ivan may have been being treated for PTSD.
http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/ukraine-crisis/congress-gives-final-approval-ukraine-aid-bill-n69181 Tuesday Congress gave final approval to provide aid to Ukraine and sanction Russia. President Obama is expected to sign the bill which passed with bipartisan support. The bill provides 1 billion dollars in a loan to Ukraine and helps supplement sanctions Obama announced against Russian officials. The IMF temporarily stalled the bill from being moved sooner.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ahead-of-midterms-political-parties-get-a-boost-from-supreme-court/ This video and article was about the supreme court ruling in that political parties would receive more money than they did before this went to the supreme court. The woman in the video says that she does not agree with this ruling. She brought up how the founding fathers wanted a country of democracy and not just a country of money. I fully agree with many of the things that this woman said in the video.
I also disagree with this ruling by the Supreme court, it is just allowing more and more money to be put into campaigns. Its allowing millionaires to give money to endless amounts of candidates if they please, giving them influence over the political actions of the candidates. I agree that the Constitution intended to create a government for the people, equally, not only for the ones with the most money. Our countries political system has become more about a money struggle than actual values and principles. This ruling is a step in the wrong direction.
I also disagree with this ruling by the Supreme court, Its no wonder were in debt. Its allowing people to give endless amounts of money to candidates. If we allowed this then all our money would be spend on the government. Like the lady mentioned in the video democracy not just money. I agree with her
I disagree as well. There is a reason s to why there is a limit as to how much money people can donate to campaigns. This just goes to show how money is starting to matter more than equality. The more money you have, the more influence you get. It is utterly ridiculous and highly aggravating. Money is becoming the goal sight of the government and not the welfare of its citizens.
I don’t agree with this either because that is all campaigns are about now a days, money. They care about who is going to support and sponsor them, who and where their funds are coming from. That’s not what they are about and they are straying away from what it’s all about and that is bettering the country.
I disagree as well. This almost seems as if the millionaires and their lobbyists have pressured the Court into bowing to political pressure. Of course, it must be a comforting feeling to the rich knowing that they can always buy a new politician if the old one disagrees with them and get laws passed to further benefit them and increase the income gap. The rich get richer through buying elections.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/04/politics/bush-paintings/index.html?hpt=po_c2 So i would have never thought this, but Bush can paint. Former president George W. Bush wanted to find a hobby after he finished his presidency, so he decided to paint leaders of different countries, which includes himself and his father. I think this is pretty cool how he decided to paint really nice pictures of different leaders and himself. I also think that it is sort of peaceful of him painting everyone. These paintings will end up going in his library.
well when you become the america dream man that is Bush, you're are bound to be more superior than most people. His painting skills though will never match up with his phenomenal speaking skills, being great with money and just that sweet southern style he brings. like hes said "I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family."
This article is about a judge declaring that the ban on recognizing out-of-state same sex marriages to be unconstitutional in Ohio. This began after many gay and lesbian couples sued the state for not recognizing that they have been legally married in other states. I think it is more than fair that states acknowledge gay marriages that have happen in other states and allow these couples the same rights and heterosexual couples even if gay marriage is not legal in that state. Issues like this are small steps forward to legalize gay marriage and rights in all states, this issue has the potential to make it to the Supreme Court for a further ruling.
I am so very happy that this happened. Like, it sucks that we can't just legalize gay marriage everywhere, right this second, but it is nice that we are willing to take tiny steps. I have always been a supporter of gay rights and I always will be, I just wish that we could do it at a federal level rather than by states...
