This article discusses the upcoming visit President Obama will be making to the Vatican on March 27. This will be his first time visiting the new pope, Francis. They will be discussing the issues of poverty and inequality, but sustaining from the topic of abortion. I learned little from this article other than background information on these upcoming events. I am Catholic, although with poor participation lately, and really I just think it's cool that the Pope has his own twitter page.

    1. Doesnt this kinda go against government getting involved in religion? Anyways I feel it is good that they would like discuss poverty , I think there should be any poverty in the world today , Unfortunately there is.. Yes maybe they could help but they cant get rid of all of it. Inequality shouldn't even be an issue because under the constitution were all equal. Im not very religious either but i think him have a twitter page is cool and bad at the same time.

    3. Its really getting religion in American government in my opinion because its not putting any religiously based policies in place nor swaying any governmental decisions. I think that all major leaders and those who have great influence on the population throughout the word should work together to try to help with major world issues like poverty.

    4. I don’t think there is a problem with this trip. I don’t think it is in anyway shape or form a religious trip and I don’t think that it will change the way other countries see America on a religious stand point. This is just a friendly meeting between leaders like President Obama has done with many country leaders.

  2. http://money.cnn.com/2014/01/22/news/economy/lew-debt-ceiling-congress/
This articles states that the government must raise the debt ceiling once again! They must increase it by the end of February due to the fact that they can't pay their bills on time and need more money. I think it will be interesting to follow the government during tax season to see what actions they plan to take. The topic of raising the debt ceiling really annoys me, although that is just what the government needs to achieve to meet our expectations. The government keeps spending so much money without trying to decrease our current debt. Citizens can't decide to raise how much they get paid just because they can't pay their bills on time, but then again the government has more responsibilities. I am torn on my opinion for this topic, but what do you think?

    1. It seems that the leaders of our country do not seem to realize the value of money. They treat it like some sort of play money from Monopoly. If we run out, we'll just print some more and borrow more from the bank. I agree with the comment that us normal citizens can't decide to raise our own debt limits just because we can't pay on time. Congress should be no different. Maybe it is time for them to loss the mortgage of their elected seat if they can't figure out how to live within their means and pay the bills they have generated instead of just passing on more burden to the citizens.

    2. Raising the debt ceiling is not the answer. Like so many other issues our government has, where does it stop/end? They keep making it worse for our nation and even harder for our nation to get out of debt. It's hard for citizens to pay their bills because the government keeps making them more and more expensive.

    3. I think it is sad that the government is having to raise the debt ceiling again. It's even sadder that you can watch the money being spent by literally a second. Since they can't pay their bills on time, what makes them think we can at citizens and to make it worse, they are going to take even more form us. Thanks government.

    4. I agree with all of you.Our government doesn't value the almighty dollar the way most of do which leads them to feel like they can spend as much as they want and know they will never really run out because they CAN just print more. Our country needs to figure out a way to majorly lower our debt before are completely in the debt of our lenders. We should only be allowed to spend the amount that is made and no more, and if the people in congressional seats cant do that then we need to find people who can. I what was said, that people with normal jobs cant just produce more money when they come up short on their bills so neither should our government.

    5. I that it is ridiculous that rather than work out a budget where we would make money or just break even is out of the question because of all of the military spending, and spending we do on policy, such as social programs. Why not just cut a few things and raise taxes a little on every level. Then spend the next 200 years slowly climbing out of this debt. Instead of more than likely having to conquer all of China to get out of it.

    6. I don’t think the debt ceiling should be raised by a significant amount but just a little bit and increase taxes just a little to even things out and start the pavement of paying debt back. Taxes shouldn’t be raised a significant amount but to be able to pay the debt back taxes will have to be raised so if we cut spending and raise taxes just a teeeeennnnyy tiny bit it will be a step I the right direction.

Articles such as these make me wonder how I even live in the same country as these people. Like, do we operate under the same document? I fail to see what's constitutional about any sort of ban on gay marriage. People still pushing towards keeping gay marriage illegal are phenomenal. Bosma made a totally bogus move here, and I would only hope he will face some kind of repercussions for his cheap actions.

    1. I agree 100 percent with you kaitlynn, I do not understand why gay marriage is such a forbidden thing in some states. No where in the constitution does it say it is illegal. Gays have the same right as any other citizen. I do think that Bosma should have consequences as well , what he did was completely wrong.

    2. I completely agree! I am 1000000000% for gay rights in not only just marriage, but just normal things in life, too. This also expands to my idea that the argument against abortion is still a heavy topic, and in our next presidential election, the Republican party is highly nominating a man who is extremely conservative and is completely first century old school. I think this is sad and may lead to a hurt government and nation if he were to be elected. (Figures crossed)... I think it is COMPLETELY and UTTERLY bogus that people are allowed to protest against the rights that come natural to being human. If someone wants an abortion, they have EVERY DARN RIGHT to get it. It someone wants to marry someone who is the same gender as them, THEY DESERVE TO BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO! And the thing is, our country has allowed people to marry animals, inanimate objects, and whatever else you can think of, but for some reason, two people who love each other can't! Finally, to end my rant, I would like to mention that many of the people who discourage gay rights enjoy their fair share of lesbian porn. Thank you. Good day.

    3. I loved this article! The fact that people really can't get over others being gay is kind of sad. We are in 2014 and you would think it would be just a normal thing. I'm pretty sure we were born in a country where we could do what we wanted because we are FREE. Well, as long as its not hurting anyone.

    4. I agree as well. It is against equality for everyone. It isn't our right to keep people from marrying each other, no matter their sexual orientation. It isn't fair to them and it should be against the Constitution to do so.

Given the recent history of disrespect between the leaders of Russia and the US, it is nice to see that when necessary some common sense can prevail. This could be a very good thing to see two of the world's great power find something in common and begin to achieve a cooperative effort towards a shared goal; preventing terrorist attacks at the Olympics. The Olympic Games should not be political in any way, especially being used by terrorists to make their political statements. Maybe setting this type of cooperative example will show other countries that similarities can be found between differing cultures and we can work together peacefully to make things better. It is a shame that the agreement has to start with a topic like standing against the violence of terrorism instead of something like human rights or trade policies. But at least this spirit of cooperation has provided an opportunity to expand contact and abilities to work together.

    1. I am very happy that you found this article, and I feel like this may be a small jump start into what this world really needs: peace. There are constant battles, whether it be war, economic based, or political, and there is very rarely a mutual standing. The United States and Russia working together to protect the Olympics from possible terrorist attacks is a very mature thing and I hope that we will soon be able to form a peaceful relationship with the country that has been often considered out enemy through mutual want of peace, and possibly even an economic agreement, which you mentioned above.

    2. Russia gives me the creeps. Such a shady country, that there Russia. Knowing that our athletes are at risk for displaying their country's colors really gives you a picture of what's going on over there.

Democrat Mark R. Herring has only been in office for attorney general for about two weeks after winning office by only a very small amount and is already proposing a big change that could sweep the south. Job creation, transportation improvements and educational improvements have been ideas he has always supported, but recently he is campaigning for marriage equality. He said that after reviewing Virginia's rules over same sex marriage he found that they were unconstitutional and violates the fourteenth amendment. If he is successful in allowing a same sex marriage bill to pass Virginia will be the first state from the old Confederacy to allow same sex marriage.

While Hillary Clinton hasn't formally announced that she will be running for president in 2016, Priorities USA Action (the largest Democratic Super PAC) has already started raising money to get her elected. Observers of this found it to be of no surprise due to that behind Obama, Hillary was their best best pick for the Democratic party to have as their presidential figure head.

    1. I actually think that she has a chance. At first Obama was the minority candidate and the country went with him. After him i think americans will want another minority and that pick could easily be Hillary. She has a pretty good chance to win the race, maybe...

    2. I think that she won't win, because of how much some people still believe that women shouldn't hold high offices of power. If she would happen to win though, I think it would be for the wrong reasons. Mainly just because she is a women and we are the generation of the 1st's. Also because of her prior white house history with her husband Bill. These are just the reasons I think some people might vote for her, but who knows she might bring an needed change to the white house.

    3. I think that Hillary would honestly be a great candidate for president, but I totally agree with Curtis that sexism will potentially be her downfall, despite it being a quality she obviously cannot control. Might I add, I also find it so interesting that once you're educated about certain aspects of government and its inner workings that you start to see them everywhere. That's exactly my relationship with PACs... But we're just friends. I need to clarify that...

So with the Bill Clinton thing that always comes up in class, Hillary Clinton now has her face on planets. In this video and article, it explains on how Hillary was put on a magazine and put her face on a planet saying "planet Hillary". I actually agree with the criticism because political wise, this just seems silly to have Hillary's face on a planet.
