http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57605149/report-nsa-maps-out-a-persons-social-connections/ This article is about how the National Security Agency has been using the information it collects on some Americans to map out their social connections. They check who they have been talking to lately, where they have been recently, their traveling companions, and other personal information. They mostly use this on Americans they keep an eye on or terrorists in other countries. Unfortunately, some Americans who are not involved in anything, get caught up in the system. I agree that the NSA should be allowed to do this. It would make it easier on them to find high-end criminals and terrorists within or outside of the country.
I agree, this does make it easier for the government to find threats to National Safety. I know that some people feel different on this topic, but I personally don not see the terrible side of this that some people do. In fact, it makes me feel safer knowing that the government is keeping watch on things that could put a lot of people in harms way.
Yes this does make ti easier to for the government to find threats it also lets them into our personal lives. People are not just getting monitored who that government feel is a threat but just anyone. The government should not pry into our persona lives my watching over us in a way.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/09/30/us-iraq-violence-idUSBRE98T06O20130930 This article talks about the many bombings that have occured this year in Baghdad. There have been 14 car bombings altogether. The people behind these car bombings have killed at least 54 people and have wounded many more. According to the Iraq Body Count, this year, 6000 people have been violently killed. they still do not know who is behin these.
Before even reading this article I thought about what they were going to do to prevent this. After reading the article it sounded like they weren't going to try to do much! As like every other important issue like this, they state that they will try and identify the suspect, but these incidents occur sporadically, so there is not a lot they can do at the moment.
This is really tragic that this has continued this long and they don't know who is behind these. I feel as if they probably haven't put much effort into finding these people.
This just shows how volatile other countries are in comparison to ours. This is a prime example of how most other countries should adopt new governments maybe one like ours to improve the lives of there people along with relationships with other regions. This is one reason we should be proud of this country because we would never let such violence go on untouched by government action.

It crashed into the hangar which was too unstable for the firefighters that responded at the scene to enter. There were no survivors.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57605246/justice-department-to-sue-north-carolina-over-voting-laws/ This article is about how the Justice Department is suing North Carolina over its new strict voting laws. The new laws force voters to present state-issued identification or they can not vote. Some states have even asked Hispanics and African Americans to provide proof that they are legal in order for them to vote. North Carolina passed these laws after the Supreme court struck down the most powerful part of the Voting Rights Act. The part they struck down now has freed southern states from strict federal oversight of their elections. I believe North Carolina should have the right to do this. The Supreme struck down that part of the Voting Rights Act and now they are seeing the consequences of such an action. They should know that there is still more discrimination in the South than anywhere else. They basically just gave the, the right away to do what they wanted to make it harder for the young, elderly, black, and poor to vote.
I think we already have pretty in-depth voting laws, but North Carolina has the right to change them. I think it is important that we identify that people are U.S. citizens, but I don't think they would show up to vote if they weren't! I think instead of taking the time to make stricter laws, making it difficult for the poor, elderly, and different races that we should take the time to educate them, so they are more informed so they are more persuaded to go and vote.
I agree, these laws are more discriminating than anything and are just making people less likely to vote. All the state is doing is lowering the amount of voters with this law and it does nothing but hurt the state and the government. I think the Justice Department has the right to sue over these laws.
I think that these laws discriminate against people and will make voting more difficult, for many different groups not just identify people as citizens. It is more important to make sure people know what they are voting on than making laws making sure that the people voting are citizens.
I am agreeing with everybody in this situation here. I believe that these laws and asking these Hispanics and African Americans about there legality is really discriminating these people and would probably make these people not want to vote just because of things like these. After these laws, the government would hopefully see that the vote number has gone down and try to pull out a better law that would help get more people to vote, like what Amanda said, you could educate the people more on voting and things like that.
The North Carolina law may have some flaws and have a larger impact on some communities than on others, but the basic idea is to safeguard the voting process. Is there really anything wrong with requiring voters to prove who they are. We have had a history in this country and in other countries of trying to stack votes in support of special interest groups through underhanded means. Requiring someone to show a proper ID to participate legally in the election process is not that outrageous. You have to show state ID to buy a car, register for schools and even to buy some over the counter medicine like Sudefed. If we require ID for those simple things, is it wrong to apply the same standard for something as important as voting? North Carolina needs to protect the minorities that could be most affected by this by ensuring there is an easy way for these groups to get appropriate, cheap State IDs.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/commentary/irans-diplomatic-opening-is-a-test-of-intentions/article14580846/ The president of the Iranian government recently claimed it was ready to open up negotiations about their nuclear program stating it was ready to make a deal. This deal is to include the U.S and the five permanent U.N Security Council members. So after all these years Iran finally wants to open up negotiations with the west Israel still wants to sanction them. Canada seems to be trying paving the way to friendlier attitude towards the Iranian government. They seem to be trying to set up an embassy with a friendly attitude trying to exchange athletics and culture as well as humanitarian and medical supplies. If the deal with the Iranian government succeeds, Canada might be to use its influence with Israel to help overcome Israeli opposition to a rapprochement with Iran.
The article i chose to blog about is currently going on, and everyone is talking about it. The Government Shutdown, even i didn't know what this meant until this past week while discussing it in class. This article talks about negotiations and both sides of the story on ObamaCare and the Government Shutdown.
This article interested me because the government shut down over a bill that was already passed. Obviously is going to happen and it is already law. Therefore, it is stupid to argue over a bill that is passed and needs funding. The people in Congress who do not like the bill should let it play out and let it crumble it's self down if it is not going to work. Even president Obama noted who dumb the arguing was. Thousands of people are without work because of the government shut down because the House and Senate cannot agree. I think that the people in Congress should have a two thirds pay cut for the fact that they caused the government shut down, it's only fair.
This article is about whether or not obamacare will crash the medical industry. People who did not have insurance before could be turned away from doctor's offices. So then they'd use ER to come in because they cannot be turned away. With a large number of the U.S.'s doctors being around the age of 50, they will soon retire making the ER even busier. The ER will have longer wait times, and since obamacare passed there will be more people flooding into the ER. This I think could very likely crash the medical industry because there will not be enough people that are qualified to treat people.
While the new health care act in bringing in a lot more patients and increase the need for doctors it will also be helping every person without medical insurance. I think this will give more jobs to qualified physicians in the medical field and give them the chance to help people who have never had the means to get medical help before now.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/02/world/africa/kenya-mall-attack-shabaab-warning/index.html?hpt=wo_c1 This article is about the terrorists that bombed the Westgate mall in Nairobi Kenya. The terrorist are basically telling the Kenyan government that they are not done with them and they are coming for them. I really dot understand the point in killing innocent people just to get revenge. When it comes to terrorist acts us Americans always think of 9/11. Honestly I never really thought a terrorist act would ever happen again. I didn’t think that it would ever happen in the United States or anywhere else. I know that the reason Al-Shabaab attacked in the first place was because of past acts by Kenya but this was a while ago and they had no idea that this would happen and it really isn’t fair to the innocent lives that were lost, lives that had nothing to do it with the past attacks.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/02/world/africa/south-africa-oscar-pistorius/index.html?hpt=wo_c2 This article is about a blade runner who is on trial for murdering his 29 year old girlfriend. First off I think he did it on purpose even though he claims it was an accident. I can understand how someone can accidently shoot someone else but I don’t think someone would then proceed after accidently shooting someone to stab them continuously. He has hired two American forensic workers to try to prove that he’s innocent. Although these people are free to do whatever they want they still work for the government and if all evidence points to the fact that this guy is guilty it’d look really on the United states if these two workers get him off the hook. I don’t think they should get involved and the government should step in and say something to them.
http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/02/politics/government-shutdown-intelligence/index.html?hpt=po_c2 This article is dealing with a really recent topic, the government shutdown. But what is different about everybody else talking about it is, this explains how it can damage our "intelligence." I actually really agree that this shutdown will do this. I believe this because of everything this article explains and i thought about Syria. No one really exclaimed an end to Syria so this shutdown will just make the U.S. seem weaker than usual.
It is amazing that our government, both Congress and the President, are putting political arguing over basic security of the country. While a lot of portions of the government are exempted from the shut down the furlough program hits hardest on those parts that directly protect us. Intelligence agencies and Department of Defense are being hit hard while our politicians argue. Our credibility as a strong country and ally is being damaged by our inability to act and move forward.
After reading this article, I feel a little bit scared honestly. With the government shut down, we lose more info on possible attacks on the U.S. which puts the country in a dangerous place considering we aren't particularly liked by a lot of countries. I agree with the article when it says that the government is being irresponsible with the Obamacare debate by letting the government shut down because of it.

The shutdown is causing members of out National Security Agency to be out of their work place leaving our nation to be weaker in countering a possible attack by foreign intel services. Our government should still be protecting its people to the best of its ability even while its in shutdown.
It amazes me how the government can not come to an agreement at the cost of many people of this country's well being. They just seem to be putting off serious decisions because they don't want to deal with conflict that goes with them. The security of this U.S. is being put in danger due to the government prolonged dispute over a new healthcare reform.

The point where I contradict myself is how we as the US always likes to play big brother of the world and think we can solve all of its problems by getting up all in everyone's business when we sometimes just need to leave certain nations alone. Certain situations call for our help and some do not, this is one that does, I believe.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57605968/nearly-9-in-10-americans-displeased-with-washington-poll-says/ I found this article very interesting, and it is a huge example as to sampling error and how random sampling works. I think that this is a very interesting article and I think that my original opinion for the definition of politics still holds true. This is just a case where the Republicans do not want the Democrats to win, so they will do anything and everything in their power to make sure they do not win. This is the largest example of "high school drama for adults", and it just keeps getting worse. I do not think that they will come up with a solution within a week, or two.
Oh my goodness. This is seriously an issue that is being discussed during the government shut down? I think that this is a serious problem because people need to focus on fixing the problems that will cause issues in our economy and daily lives. It is shocking that our society is so easily side tracked to an unimportant issue like this during a time like this.
